Title: Doom and Gloom is Outstanding Post by The Wick on Oct 17th, 2012 at 12:03pm
I know there is the other thread but I wanted to start fresh because these long threads are eventually lost in the pages.
It always takes about a week or a lot of listens to get a real feel for a new song. After numerous listens, I absolutely love Doom and Gloom. It's the strongest single they have released in years. People slate Emotional Rescue and Undercover but the energy and vibe off of Doom and Gloom reminds me of those albums. Although I like different elements to the albums Steel Wheels and on, those albums sound a little limp for whatever reason. Doom and Gloom is a roaring return to a drive they have not had in years. The one major disappointment though was the "sitting in the dirt, feeling kind of hurt" line. Come on Mick, you are one of the greatest lyricists of all time. |

Wick, if you 'absolutely love' Doom and Gloom then you are so going to wet your pants once you hear Goddess In The Doorway and any of Mick's other solo work.

I've heard them all and my pants are as dry as a sponge in the desert.

I'm down. But, There are times when I think he's gonna sing about sending The National Guard to guard the grocery store. I really need to hear this Itunes version. I heard it's the bees knees. I'm very fickle and cautious about my new song.

I do too, I know some music people in bands that are not Stones fanatics who say this is the best they heard in a long time, this has got so much Rock & Roll spirit that these new artists/bands never get these days (that's if there's even rock & Roll anymore these days) that this kicks them in the ass, as they should be.

Here's where I mention it in that other thread. I've tried to look for it at www.iorr.org but can't seem to find it. There's a million pages of content. Try to search it out based upon what time I posted my info and then use that as a guide to slim down the search over there. |

IORR is another messageboard for the Stones. So you see it was posted early in the day on the release day, so use that to find it. I had it by 930AM on the east coast of the USA.

I like this track... although I don't know where some critics are getting a "Gimme Shelter" or "Street Fighting Man" vibe out of it.
And, this is pure blasphemy I know but... I think I hear a little ZZ Top riff in there. Why? I have no idea! Seriously, that can't be right, can it? |

Whenever Mick gets political, the press brings up Street Fighting Man and Gimme Shelter.

I still can't hear the harmonica in either version, and I'm running the tunes through a dedicated sound system - not laptop speakers or a cell phone.
