On the one hand, I'm so thrilled they're back. The video. The teasing you-knew-this-was-coming vibe. Their mugs. The Charlie finale. Damn. On the other hand.... 406 POUNDS???????? Well at these prices I don't know.....I may try the Amex route for the Newark Dec 15th.....I'll be 60 years old at midnight the 16th so this may be it......course I have to survive looking at my credit card bills first. $753 and then $59.50 to Ticketbastard?......if they have to print and mail the tickets thne it really costs as much for the cheapest as it does the most expensive but they take a % of course to screw us. But this is the Stones doing the screw job and I am torn as to whether I play along one more time

Title: Re: The Rolling Stones in London & Newark - Offici Post by Gazza on Oct 15th, 2012 at 7:36am
£95 and £166 tickets for the 02 are my limit.
I fully expect those to be mysteriously 'unavailable' once they go on sale until enough mugs have been conned into panic buying £400 nosebleeds. To get some perspective - something the Stones dont have - £400 is around the average week's salary in the UK. And that's one of the wealthier countries in Europe. £150 was more than expensive enough last time - and those were for very good seats. Paying more than that to see a band whose musical chops have been untested for five years at this stage of their lives simply isn't an option. If I cant get anything for £166, I'll have absolutely no qualms about passing. In fact it'll be somewhat cathartic to be able to do so. |

There will almost certainly be a tour in 2013. I think these prices are so exorbitant because its just four shows in two continents and when theyre selling 80,000 tickets they can get away with it a lot easier than they can if theyre trying to sell 3 or 4 million tickets. I'd expect the shows next year to be relatively-speaking a bit more affordable. |

I can dig that these 4 shows are "special" shows, with Jagger hinting at "friends" joining them, but those prices are incredible. Bordering on ridiculous! Certainly not for the average fan. Those fronts rows are gonna be full of dazzling white teeth & fake tits.
I assume a "normal" 2013 tour will be more appropriately priced, because, last tour or not, no one can justify such greedy prices. They better not pull that shit here. P.S. I loved the line about the O2 nose bleed seats. "Not recommended to people with a fear of heights". LMFAO! |

They don't say....LOL Can any musical act in history possibly be more out of touch with the real world? Awaits the obligatory and inevitable 'we're just like old bluesmen' type quote from Keith, any day now... The thing is, across the boards, even the most cheerleader-esque fans are for the most part waking up to see what a piss-take this is. Which does make you wonder how many people really are going to pay £450 or $750 for what are often pretty ordinary seats in an arena in a recession and coming up to Christmas. Like I said earlier, expect some serious pushing of these tickets once they go on sale under the illusion that theyre all thats available. |

A concert shouldnt primarily be about emotional blackmail, though. And thats really what this is. You could make the same 'this could be the last time' argument for every Stones tour for the last three decades. $250 is very expensive but yes, I agree its doable. How many tickets are in that 'doable' range is another matter, though. They may be a lot less plentiful than most people imagine. Historically, that tends to be the case for New York and London concerts. If thats the case, then these prices are absolutely indefensible. The contempt the band have for their fans is higher than it ever has been, unfortunately. |

Boutique prices for boutique shows. It was to be expected.
This is why I do not understand why they didn't go ahead and confirm further shows for next year. They have plenty of people that will pay big bucks to see these shows. I'm sure big wigs in London and NYC will be buying up blocks of these for employees. And of course there is the society/jet set crowd. These two shows are for them and that is obivious. Had they set the tickets at a reasonable rate the demand would have way exceeded supply. So how do they decide who gets the tickets in that situation? Big ass headache that is best avoided. So guys, just announce the other dates so the regular fans have an idea of what we need to fork out next year? |

So far no announcement if the imaginary "Student Discount" tickets will be made 'available' again?
:nooslajaleisk :scary :blankfriggingstare1 :areyoufuckingserious Though they really out did themselves from the $100 fan club rip off of the previous tour to the now "Archival Members" tickets. Which is so awesome! You just plunk down $1800 on a Brussells Box or some other over paid crap and you get privilege of 'pre-sale access' to buy the $850 seats What sweet deal! What true prince's they are! |

Also, the venue in Newark is new and state-of-the-art, built for concerts so although Newark, NJ itself sucks, this place is nice and there is public transit to and from so as long as you dont plan on strolling the streets of Newark, it's perfectly safe. It will be available on DVD anyway, & you actually see more what's going on then at a live show, I know a person who had front row seats for another artist, Bowie, & what happened there was festival seating included after the sale, & all these people shut out the front row people so they ended up watching a screen, The guy actually saw more on the show when the DVD came out, & he paid all this money for it.
What about some of us who is getting up there in years & live on fixed incomes. |

Rolling Stones Confirm 50th Anniversary Concerts
'The boys are cooking in the back room,' Keith Richards tells Rolling Stone Charlie Watts, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones. Samir Hussein/WireImage By Andy Greene October 15, 2012 7:45 AM ET After months of rumors, the Rolling Stones have announced dates for their 50 and Counting . . . The Rolling Stones Live tour. The band will perform November 25th and 29th at London's O2 Arena and December 13th and 15th at Newark's Prudential Center. Ticketing information is available on their website. "The boys are cooking in the back room," Keith Richards tells Rolling Stone. "See you all in the front room very soon." A press release announcing the tour promises an "all new, custom-built set design with a stage based on the band's ubiquitous and celebrated tongue and lips logo, which will reach out into the crowd and become a truly must-see and -hear experience, with integral video screens and effects enhancing the sort of high-octane adventure for which the band's concerts have been famous for decades." Rare and Intimate Photos of the Rolling Stones The shows will be promoted by Virgin Live, a new organization spearheaded by Richard Branson and tour promoter Paul Dainty. "In the future Virgin Live plans to make a real difference to how fans experience, interact and enjoy live events," Branson said in a statement. "Who would have believed, that a relationship with the band that started in the Sixties, would still be going strong five decades later with us working together again on these amazing shows." The Rolling Stones haven't performed in public since their Bigger Bang tour ended in August of 2007. They came together earlier in Paris earlier this year to record two new cuts for their upcoming compilation album GRRR!, which hits shelves on November 13th. The new single "Doom and Gloom" was released last week. Crossfire Hurricane, a new documentary chronicling their fifty-year career, will premiere on HBO on November 13th. As of now, only these four concerts have been announced, though it seems likely the tour will continue in 2013. Contrary to widespread rumors, the American shows are in Newark and not Brooklyn's brand new Barcalys Center. "I'm so looking forward to playing live in the New York/New Jersey area again," Mick Jagger tells Rolling Stone. "It's going to be a great celebration." The final show of the four-night tour will be broadcast live via Pay Per View. Entitled One More Shot, the broadcast will be distributed by WWE. Tickets for the Newark show range from $98.50 to $813. Check out this video of the band officially announcing the tour, in which Jagger says they may have "a few friends joining us" at the shows: Read more: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/rolling-stones-confirm-50th-anniversary-concerts-20121015#ixzz29OrdifPR |

OK, is Newark really THAT bad when it comes to crime ?
I live in a city that is considered "high crime" by some people, but you hardly ever hear of tourists being victims of crime, especially violent crime. Most people here use their common sense and don't put themselves in a position to become a victim, and the vast majority of violent crime happens between drug dealers, etc., in neighborhoods where you wouldn't be unless you were involved in something. So what's the real scoop ? Can't I book a room at a hotel near the venue and go to the show without being paralyzed by fear of becoming a victim? |

Rolling Stones' London concerts could set you back over £1,000
The Rolling Stones have announced their first live shows in five years, including two concerts in Britain, but fans who want a spot right in front of the stage face being charged more than £1,000 for a ticket. The Rolling Stones have confirmed that they will play two live shows in London next month, but the cheapest ticket costs £106 including booking fees. Photo: REX FEATURES By Sam Marsden8:55PM BST 15 Oct 2012 Even the cheapest tickets for their two nights at London’s O2 Arena next month cost £106 – more than the band themselves were paid when they performed their first gig 50 years ago. Confirming widespread rumours, the rock group said they were playing four dates, two in Britain and two in the United States, to mark their 50th anniversary. Tickets for the London shows on November 25 and 29 cost up to £406, including booking fees, for the best seats. However, at present any Stones lover who wants to guarantee a place standing in the “tongue pit” in front of the stage, based on the band’s classic tongue and lips logo, will have to purchase a VIP hospitality package costing £1,140 including VAT. Standing tickets only will go on sale later at a cheaper price, but they will be restricted to members of the Rolling Stones fan club. By contrast, the original members of the Stones each received £5 – about £88 in today’s money – for their first concert at the Marquee Club in London's Oxford Street on July 12 1962. The late Brian Jones, who came up with the band’s name, was paid slightly more. The latest gigs will be rather more lucrative for the ageing rockers. Reports suggest that promoters are paying them about £16 million for the four concerts. The Stones last played live during their two-year A Bigger Bang tour, which ended at the O2 Arena in August 2007. It earned around $558 million (£347 million), making it the second highest grossing music tour in history. Sir Mick Jagger, the band’s frontman, admitted on Monday that it felt “crazy” to have reached the 50-year landmark. “You think it’s going to last a couple of years. At the time that seemed like a perfectly rational thing to say – why would you think it would go on for any longer? That was about the shelf life of a pop group at the time,” he told the Evening Standard. “Obviously at the beginning you didn’t have any inclination. It’s a nightmare idea, really, that you’d do anything for 50 years at that age.” The estimated 30,000 tickets for the two London dates went on advance sale on Monday to American Express card holders and people wanting a package including hospitality or hotel accommodation. Tickets will be available to O2 mobile customers and subscribers to the Stones Archive mailing list from Wednesday, and will go on general sale at 9am on Friday. The American concerts will be held at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey, on December 13 and 15. Fans who manage to get one of the prized tickets are promised a run through the group’s greatest hits, which include "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", "Honky Tonk Women" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want”. The Stones have recorded two new songs - Doom And Gloom and One More Shot - which will be included in a repackaged “best of” collection called “Grrr!”, to be released on November 12. Sir Mick suggested on Monday that the announced dates would be a teaser for a full series of shows. There have also been rumours the Stones are being lined up to play Glastonbury Festival next year. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/rockandpopmusic/9610328/Rolling-Stones-London-concerts-could-set-you-back-over-1000.html |

As someone who lives in NJ less then an hour from the Prudential Center I can tell you that Newark is beyond terrible. It has actually improved the past few years but it is still one of if not the worse area in the entire US (and believe me ive been all over the US). The good news is they usually have TONS of police around the arena to protect fans. The other good news is the arena is only a few years old and its gorgeous-really one of the nicest arenas you'll ever be in. It's a shame it's in the middle of hell. There is public transportation which is probably the easiest way to get in and out of the place. Im sure there will be a ton of fans doing this so if you travel in groups you should hopefully be OK. Otherwise you better be a Street Fighting Man!!! :nooslajaleisk :scary :wtf2 :wtf1

Apparently they will all be joining Mick for an exclusive, acapella version of "Streets Of Love", that post-show, you will be able to download, for a limited time, for a yet undisclosed fee. |

'Cheaper' than £1,000 a ticket covers a lot of ground. Should we pleased if theyre only, say, £600 a ticket? From what Ive seen on stonesarchive.com theres a presale for the £600 (+ £51) package which gets you an (unsigned) copy of the Brussels Affair box thrown in. Just like there was on the AMEX presale. I think theres one 'box' per order. Not per ticket. So effectively, if I'm understanding this right, this free presale entitles you to a shot at an (albeit very good) seat which has a normal price of £350, but you get a boxed set thrown in. Which you may or may not already own as you're a registered stonesarchive member. It gets better all the time! |

Edith, that is probably one of the "nicer" areas of the city. You can probably get in and out of the city pretty easy that way. I doubt there is mass transit from there to the arena. What I would do is if I saw lots of people walking to the arena I would probably walk it. If not, I would have the hotel call me a cab even though it's only about a mle and a half away. I apologize if I'm scaring the hell out of you-The sad reality is that Newark is not a place that you want to be walking around at night alone. Again, once you get to the arena ( nicknamed The Rock) you'll love it though. It is gorgeous and they received a lot of federal funding to build it in Newark to try to revitalize the area. Unfortunately that hasn't happened yet. However, with the Stones in town all is good!!!

I can only think that this was due to being a fan club member. If Stones said that this could be possible for the '13 tour & wanted to charge $100 to re-up to be a member, I would look at this as a lottery style item, and the $100 would be a "vig" to get a chance at those type of tickets. Sadly, I do not think this will be the case. Oh, and who also got the same type of seats, and sat next to us ......Mr. & Mrs. Pug. What a small world, and a decent couple. Rolling Stones fans' outrage as standard tickets for London 50th anniversary gigs set to cost up to £375
By Emily Sheridan PUBLISHED: 07:52 EST, 15 October 2012 | UPDATED: 04:44 EST, 16 October 2012 ..The news The Rolling Stones are performing again to mark their 50th anniversary has been met with joy by their legions of fans. But after hearing the band are set to net £15.7million from just four gigs, ticket prices are expected to be incredibly high.Standards tickets for their two-night stint at London's O2 Arena will cost between £90 to £375. Back on the road: The Rolling Stones (L-R) Charlie Watts, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Sir Mick Jagger have announced a 50th anniversary tour Although tickets don't go on sale until Friday, many fans have ruled out trying to buy them after being put off by the inflated prices. Fans took to Twitter to express their horror at the prices to watch the band, who have a combined age of 273, perform. One Twitter user Jack Powell tweeted the band, saying: '@RollingStones how can the ticket prices be so high. Trying to get a loan. My one chance to see you and the price is shocking. Gutted.' Another fan James Pagan said: 'How can the Rolling Stones charge 400 quid to see them in concert at the O2? I think everyone should boycott it.' The rock group announced their new tour on Monday to coincide with their 50th anniversary as a band on a YouTube video. The four-piece will perform two shows in London in November, follow by a pair of gigs in Newark, New Jersey the following month. Frontman Sir Mick Jagger, 69, enthused: 'Everybody loves a celebration, and London and New York are two good places to do it in.' Guitarist Keith Richards, 68, added: 'Sorry to keep you all hanging around but the waiting is over. I've always said the best place for rock and roll is on the stage and the same is true for the Stones. 'I'm here with Mick, Charlie and Ronnie and everything is rocking. See you very soon.' The gigs will be their first tour since their two-year A Bigger Bang World Tour, which ended in 2007. In 2006, the band were forced to cancel a string of dates after Keith suffered concussion after falling out of a tree while on holiday in Fiji during a break in the tour. The group will perform to an estimated 20,000 people at London's O2 Arena on 25 and 29 November, and 18,700 at the Prudential Center in Newark on 13 and 15 December. The venues are far smaller than others the band have played to in the past, such as 82,000 at London's Twickenham Stadium or an estimated 1million people on Copacabana Beach in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil in February 2006. Appearing on Chris Evans' Radio 2 breakfast show on Monday, Mick said: 'I'm sure there's going to be something on Facebook very soon about the tour. It's not going to be a long tour, the first bit anyway... It's going to be a few gigs. As well as a new tour, the band have recorded two new songs Doom And Gloom and One More Shot, which will appear in a new greatest hits collection Grrr!, which will hit stores on November 12. Describing the new songs, Mick told Chris: 'It was a very quick recording session Although the line-up had changed somewhat since their inception in the 60s, Mick and Keith will be joined by current members Charlie Watts, 71; and Ronnie Wood, 65, for this tour. Previous Stones members include the late Brian Jones and Ian Stewart, and former bassist Bill Wyman, who left in 1993. the PPV will likley be $60..based on wrestling and fight prices. The buy rate for concerts is always way below fights and wrestling but even 250,000 buys is 15 million......still cant believe they are going live with no edits.....should be interesting but surely will lead to a safe setlist and few surprises. One thing we havenet focused on is Ronnie and how much sharper he has been last 2 years or so live. Might surprise us what having him "on" can do for the sound.

Pointless comment unless you have an idea how many of them are in that category. There might be 5,000. There might also be about 300. The fact is that there are less of them with each successive tour. And if the London example is any yardstick, there are a lot more than ever in the most expensive category. How you measure it is the average price. The average ticket price on the last tour was $167. From what I read today, the £16 million/$25 million that the Stones got for these shows means that the promoters have to sell tickets at at LEAST £207 (thats about $350) just to break even. So youre probably looking at considerably over $400 for an average ticket price. A 250% hike on their last tour. Indefensible. |

There will always be tickets in every category on public sale. No presale gets a monopoly on an allocation for a particular 'area'. The only thing is that there were some prices on the Amex sale which arent on the general sale (I think it was $250 or something). Whether the seats are necessarily any better I doubt. Its sort of like saying its announced a free presale, but youre actually paying a bit more for the ticket in that block than you will in the public sale |

What's pointless is complaining about the prices. That's pointless. For years we've all wished for another show. Well, now we got it. If I cannot afford a ticket to a show in the dead of winter on the east coast, I'll get the pay per view.
For all of the great affordable items Stones, Inc. have sold us (great downloads, Some Girls two disc set, $20-$30 shirts at Macys) they've also given us $5,000 pin ball machines, $1,500 cd box sets, and lithos with questionable signatures. Also, I was the lucky guy to be with Lady Jane and You Got To Roll Me on the arena floor for that AC show. |

So from that derives that if you pay X amount for a certain block through Amex / o2 / Archive presale, and that gets you a seat in, say, block 102, someone else (who has waited until Friday's general sale) could also pay X amount but get a better seat later on, because that seat was not part of the pre-sale? Maybe even for cheaper? From this it follows that the people who buy up presale tickets, in general, pay more for limited (therefore more likely to be worse) seats, depending on what blocks are included. So what drives people to buy tickets through a pre-sale? The mere sense of exclusivity? This is making me lose my faith in any pre-sale. I'm trying to analyse whether it's better to secure a 106/166 ticket tomorrow at 9am (through the o2 presale - if i can) or take the risk of waiting until the floodgates open on Friday. The question for me is which wave of sales (o2 or general) is going to take me further for my money... literally, towards the stage |

"You know I wouldn't be surprised," said Richards, when asked if the Stones would be playing more than just the four shows announced yesterday. "Nobody's actually given a heads up on that, but I don't think that this band is gonna wind up all of this for four shows. I think they want to do something for the end of the year, and I think next year probably looks like it's on." The band is currently set to take the stage at Lodnon's O2 Arena on November 25th and 29th, while on December 13th and 15th they'll hop across the pond to play Newark's Prudential Center. Shows next year would be even more apt, as Richards points out that the Stones consider next year the group's real 50th birthday because 1963 marks the year Charlie Watts joined the group. "This year to us is a conception," joked Richards, "next year is the birth, but everybody around the world has decided a conception's worth a celebration." When asked about the possibility of the band playing England's famed Glastonbury festival, Richards quipped with a laugh, "On a good day if the weather's fine, that's an interesting proposition." He added, "I think the band wants to get these four gigs under their belt and think about next year after that. But anything's possible with this band, you know." As less people are going for tickets in a presale, youre likely to get your tickets faster and theres that early knowledge that you're 'in the building' whilst everyone else comes close to spontaneous combustion in the pubic sale. Take your chance with the presale by all means, but think twice about settling for something that later on you think is poor value for the category of ticket you bought (ie a £350 nosebleed, or a £350 floor seat at the very back of the hall). Its really all a crapshoot. My opinion is that you'll rarely get the best value tickets for each category in a FREE presale. I remember a sponsors presale for Twickenham in 2006 - all of the 'best' pitch tickets seemed to be in Block B, which for £150 was a long way to be away from the stage in the middle of a field. |

As you've probably read, the Stones played in Newark in 1965. This article appeared in Newark paper today describing the events surrounding that concert. Attached is a picture of where they played - Symphony Hall, previously known as the Mosque Theater. Can only imagine how cool it would have been to see the group in that setting. the 'logic' in their utter incompetence is sinking in. Think about it Monday - The shows get announced. They promise a special presale access for anyone who is subscribed to stonesarchive.com. When seeing that window of opportunity, probably thousands of fans register. Tuesday - They tell you that the presale will be for 'Brussels Affair' package deals only. The same package that was available to the public from 12.30 pm on Monday. Wednesday - Stonesarchive.com out of the blue confirms a new archive release for download. As they have thousands more members than they had last week, sales for this are brisk and awareness (and therefore purchases) of other items in the store increases dramatically. Theyve basically conned people into registering to get more business for their archive store. |

Rolling Stones tickets on sale for £20,000 as band tweets setlist photo
Rolling Stones tickets don't go on general sale until Friday but they are already available on some sites for a staggering £20,000. The Rolling Stones are playing in London and New Jersey (Picture: EPA) ..The eye-watering price was listed on Seatwave, an online secondary ticketing site, for £19,999. With a booking fee of £3,599.82, the price goes up to an astonishing £23,598.82. Tickets went on pre-sale to fans earlier this week and will go on general sale on Friday at 9am for the two shows at London's O2 Arena on November 25 and 29. Like Viagogo, Seatwave lets fans sell their tickets to other fans. Tickets for the gigs, which will mark the band's 50th anniversary, will cost between £106 and £406 at face value. Fans have blasted the high price of tickets for The 50 & Counting: The Rolling Stones Live Tour with many saying they can't afford to go see them. .DargeyBoy said: 'Rolling Stones Tickets - £950 for the pit, £406 for floor / level 1 seats, £106 for up in the gods. What a group of greedy old ba******s.' FranStallman wrote: 'Dam you Rolling Stones tickets why have you got to be so expensive.' vichollins tweeted: 'Offered "priority booking" by credit card for rolling stones tickets. Prices start at £300. Those divorces/rockstar habits must've added up!' Rolling Stones posted this setlist on Twitter (Picture: Rolling Stones/Twitter) Meanwhile, the band have posted a setlist that they’ve been rehearsing, giving fans an idea of what tracks they’ll be playing. The snap shows a handwritten note with 23 tracks scribbled down but the Stones insist they only decide to setlists an hour before they take to the stage. The band will reportedly be paid £15.7million for the four gigs, which will be promoted by Sir Richard Branson's new company Virgin Live. The concerts will be the first time they've played live together since their their two-year A Bigger Bang World Tour, which ended in 2007. Are the Rolling Stones tickets too expensive? :wtf3 Yes, I'm not made of money :areyoufuckingserious No, it's worth it to see them live Read more: http://www.metro.co.uk/music/915312-rolling-stones-tickets-on-sale-for-20-000-as-band-tweets-setlist-photo#ixzz29ZpeWwKw |

insist they only decide to setlists an hour before they take to the stage. I think it is "finalized"an hour before the show...Chuck presents the list to Mick of any change outs, tour premieres, etc...and he gives a nod or gives a nay. The real question is who writes it on Charlies plexiglass and when...that would be the mystery solver for the time envelope. |

the mosh pit tongue thing spooks me to.
I wonder how much of the show you will be swirling about as the band move about. How much will they be on the ramps on the side and front, which is actually to the back of the pit fans. Well they primarily play to the arena, with a few token 'oh yer, hi pit guys' ala the onstage Bang seats. Plus floor seats look like being miles away from Charlie. Lots of heads in front of you, even in good seats. At least here in Oz we get to see.hear fans experiences before we allegedly get a chance to see em down under. Hopefully they ditch the tongue and play a straight arena here. Easier and more fun on the floor. |

Backlash
Furious fans hoping to be at the Rolling Stones' 50th anniversary gigs in a few weeks have discovered it could cost them thousands of pounds. Official ticket prices for two shows at London's O2 Arena range from £95 to £375 plus fees, while a "VIP hospitality" ticket was priced at £950. Priority customers have been able to order some of the tickets, but they do not go on general sale until Friday. One potential buyer said on Facebook: "Just tried to buy a couple of tickets for the Rolling Stones at the O2 next month but didn't proceed when I found out the price - an incredible £1,302. "They weren't even particularly special seats. For those you need the VIP package at £950 or £1,900 for two." There have been reports that one "secondary" ticket site was selling seats for more than £13,000. And one site dealing in tickets had added a £140 processing fee to the cost of two tickets it was selling for £770, it was reported. "These prices are a joke," fan Steve Grace wrote in a comment appearing on the official See Tickets website. "To expect this sort of money just makes me lose a lot of respect for these guys." Drachan Forster added on the site: "Saw them in Rio at a free concert. Was pickpocketed relentlessly throughout, but nothing compares to this fleecing. £246 for some of the worse seated tickets in the house. Disgusting." Many fans protested online that the band should have rewarded their fans for their loyalty over the last half-century with cheaper shows. "Considering these guys started off as a working-class set of lads, these prices are well out of reach of the ordinary working man," Chrissi Matusevics posted on Facebook. The Rolling Stones live dates were announced on Monday American Express customers gained advance access to tickets for the London shows on Monday, followed on Wednesday by subscribers to the band's mailing list and users of Britain's O2 mobile phone network. A spokesman for promoter Virgin Live said: "These four shows are very special gigs to mark a unique occasion and milestone in the Rolling Stones' history. "They are a one-off celebration of their 50th anniversary and not part of an extended global tour where substantial production costs can be spread over a lengthy period of shows. "The ticket prices are in fact spread over a range of costs and are comparable and similar to other huge shows and attractions." The band will play to 40,000 people during their two nights at the O2 and will play two more shows in Newark, New Jersey, in the US, in December. US music magazine Billboard reported in August that Mick Jagger and bandmates Charlie Watts, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood will earn a total of $25m (£15.5m) for the four shows. The anger comes as the band's first new studio recording for seven years has been unable to persuade many fans to part with 99p for a download, with the song at a lowly number 74 in the charts. According to midweek sales figures, Doom And Gloom, which went on sale just days ago is a long way from making it into the top 40 on Sunday. The band last made it into the top ten in 1981 with Start Me Up. |

Unreserved standing ("mosh") tickets are now listed on the Ticketmaster ticket categories for the 02 shows to go on sale Friday.
The cost is £375 (and £31 charges). Same as the floor seats and most of the level 1 seats...and a few nosebleeds! To get some perspective, when U2 had a similar 'enclosure' stage front at their shows on the last tour - even though the ticket prices ranged from $30 to about $250 - the 'pit' area was about $55. I wasnt at the shows so I'm not sure how it worked but I think it was general admission as normal and then first-come first-served for that area. The Stones appear to be the only band on earth who charge you more to stand than to sit! |

Its a pair of arena shows in two stages with a relatively minimal stage set up. Just like every other act can manage. Production costs for these shows will be miniscule compared to the extravaganzas they've done in the past. As for the last bit about 'other huge shows' - say what? |

Don't play the game then folks...its that simple...I know we'd love to think the band would let us have a cheap seat because of our long term fandom. Ain't happening..when these guys threw over Bill Graham and let the likes of Jovan sponsor tours the money grab was on. Michael Cohl is likeley not on the scene because Branson sold the band on how much more we could be raped for. Fuck em all.....it's a free market yes...but I'll sit this shitfest out. Can't wait until individual Brussels box sets are sold by the track for $87.99 ea

Rolling Stones: what price nostalgia?
The rush for Rolling Stones tickets is a futile attempt to recapture the band's former glories, writes Bernadette McNulty. Marketing maching: the Rolling Stones in their prime. By Bernadette McNulty 1:19PM BST 19 Oct 2012 What price nostalgia? Ask the hordes of people who this morning were desperately trying to buy tickets to see the Rolling Stones at one of their two O2 Arena gigs this November. They may not have numbered as many as the millions who tried to see Led Zeppelin in 2007 or even the Stone Roses fans who rushed to see their long lost heroes earlier this year, but there were still thousands of zombies repetitively hitting refresh, banging their heads against the screen as they tried to decipher the squiggly security code once more. If they were lucky, there might've been a wince as they kissed goodbye to a wad of cash, soothed by the euphoria at having succeeded in winning these modern jousting battles – or, if not, they now face the lingering, bitter aftertaste of frustration and disappointment. Why do we put ourselves through it? Because the heritage music bandwagon offers everyone the chance to step back in time, to buy a place in that mythological time and place where London swung and the Rolling Stones were the greatest band of rock gods ever. Not even their most rabid fan can imagine that they are still at their peak of their powers, despite Mick’s fitness regime. As anyone who has seen Patti Smith, Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen or even the Beach Boys of late could testify, musicians can certainly find greater depth in their voices and performances the older they get. But the sheer power and physicality that made the Stones so potent is long gone. The forthcoming gigs – with the frightening promise of interactive tongues and likely other hi-tech bangs, whizzes and flashes – sounds more like Cirque du Soleil than any kind of raw gig, a Disneyland joyride through the Stones's greatest hits. But like medieval religious devotees we gather around these still just-about-standing human relics and hope that even for a moment we will be transported into the legend, feeling that magic before they pop their clogs. It’s not all our deluded faults. The Rolling Stones, if not really a band anymore, are a terrifyingly brilliant business. Even if you had no interest in their music, over the last few months you would have been subjected to a steady drip feed of rare photographs, documentaries and even new songs proffered as fig leaves on (another) greatest hits album, all garlanded with rave reviews. This has not so much been a jolly golden anniversary party as a crack military-style marketing campaign, planting associations of the band’s heyday in your head just as the tickets go on sale. Genius, and certainly more effective and less tiring than say, closing down half of central London and standing on top of the BBC as Chris Evans jigs along to your hits (thanks U2). And despite even Keith’s bizarrely rude health, there is the implied threat that this might be the last chance to see the band before they throw in their luxury Egyptian cotton towels and retire to Caribbean bolt holes. Like guilty relatives gathering urgently in an old peoples’ home with rictus grins on our faces, we won’t be so much toasting the Stones’ greatness, as saluting their sheer survival, lifting a collective fist up to old father time. If we got tickets, that is. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/rockandpopmusic/9620328/Rolling-Stones-what-price-nostalgia.html |

70 songs...and they'll "only" play 30????
Rolling Stones rehearsed 70 songs for 50th anniversary concerts: Mick Jagger Keith Richards assures Rolling Stones fans that the band will deliver REUTERS Published: Friday, October 19, 2012, 10:04 AM Updated: Friday, October 19, 2012, 11:56 AM Rankin/AP (From l.) Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones LONDON - Singer Mick Jagger said the Rolling Stones had rehearsed around 70 songs for a series of 50th anniversary concerts later this year, and guitarist Keith Richards assured fans the veteran British rockers would "deliver". The four Stones appeared on the red carpet on Thursday for the world premiere of "Crossfire Hurricane", a documentary charting the meteoric rise to fame and fortune following their debut in London in 1962. Jagger, who is 69, Richards, fellow guitarist Ronnie Wood and drummer Charlie Watts posed for photographers before speaking to the media on their way into the movie theatre in London's Leicester Square. "Rehearsals are going very well, (we've) done about 70 different songs," Jagger told reporters. "I said, 'look, we only need to do 30, we don't need to do 70, but now we are doing 70. I don't know if we will do them all." Richards added of the upcoming gigs in London and New York: "You know, we are looking forward to a great time. See, it's a two-way thing. It's to do with all these people and it's to do with us, we will deliver alright - one love." The band, one of the most successful in rock history and behind songs like "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," "Honky Tonk Women" and "Angie," is marking its 50th birthday with a greatest hits album, photo book, exhibitions, documentary and gigs. The Stones will play the O2 Arena in London on November 25 and 29 before crossing the Atlantic to perform at the Prudential Center, Newark, on December 13 and 15. Jagger has hinted that the band could play more dates in the future. NO SATISFACTION ON TICKET PRICES Tickets to the London dates go on general sale on Friday, although priority customers, including Amex card users and subscribers to the Stones archive mailing list, have been able to by some of them earlier. Fans have voiced anger at the ticketing system and reports of prices ranging from 95 pounds ($152) to as much as 950 pounds ($1,520) for a "VIP hospitality" seat. At the film premiere, hundreds of fans gathered to catch a glimpse of the band members who signed autographs on their way in. While clearly enamored with their musical heroes, some in the crowd were unhappy about the concert ticket prices. "Too much, against rock and roll ethics if you ask me," said Valantina Bertezzi, a 29-year-old who had taken the day off work to see the Stones. "(They) should be cheaper and more for the people than 'American Express People'." "Crossfire Hurricane," screened as part of the London film festival, is drawn entirely from archive footage and attempts to recreate what it was like to be on stage and backstage amid riotous noise and screams of adulation. Jagger said it looked "like a pretty mad ride". Critics praised its portrayal of the Stones in the 1960s and 70s, when many music critics argue they were at the peak of their powers untainted by commercialism. "Millions of fans will doubtless indulge these elderly gentleman rebels as they engage in yet another round of lucrative myth-making," wrote The Hollywood Reporter's Stephen Dalton in a review. "In other words, 'Crossfire Hurricane' is business as usual from the Stones, and good fun on its own terms. However, anyone expecting buried treasure or fresh insights into ancient rock folklore will get no satisfaction here." They really are pushing things. And maybe pushing too far off the cliff or fairness, or even reality. But i guess its just the sting in the tail to get them to do 4 small-ish gigs. A full-on tour could not succeed at these outrageous prices. Lets face it. These shows are for elites to give the band a nice quid before the hard slog of a world tour in 2013. Get some pretty people in the front rows to make the PPV look good.

Title: Re: The Rolling Stones in London & Newark - Offici Post by Gazza on Oct 21st, 2012 at 5:57am
Please dont believe this 'The shows sold out in seven minutes' bollocks, because it gives the band more credit for their popularity than is actually the case.
It appears that about half of the people who bought tickets for these concerts are not going. Presumably once they spent a couple of grand on tickets, they realised that they had a dinner appointment that night or were planning to wash their hair because the amount of tickets being offered immediately for re-sale is through the roof. We all complain - justifiably - that the band and promoters never do anything to prevent scalping (whereas other artists at least have some principles) but the bottom line is this. The Stones are getting $25 million for four shows. Branson and Dainty have to get a return on their investment so its not in THEIR interest for anti-scalping measures to be in place as it'll make the tickets (especially the £400 nosebleeds) harder to sell. Thousands and thousands of tickets that they may have trouble getting rid of get snapped up by brokers, scalpers and various wannabe chancers - and by those people doing so, it means that the promoters work is done. They've paid the Stones, theyve got their money back and they've made a large profit. The onus on filling the arena with people now passes to the wankers who paid silly money for tickets and are trying to re-sell them. The band and promoters have got their pound of flesh and dont give a damn who makes up the audience. The 'popularity' of these shows is more of a reflection on the opportunistic nature of unscrupulous ticket buyers in a free market than it is on how much people like the Stones. No one really needs to be paying thousands of dollars that these shysters are asking for tickets. There are so many of them available that getting them around face value shouldnt be too difficult. |
|
Title: Re: The Rolling Stones in London & Newark - Offici Post by gimmekeef on Oct 21st, 2012 at 8:38am
So the scalpers take a shit kicking...hey I'm all in for that.....however for them to get so many tickets up front then the promoters must have had firm arrangements to sell X number of tickets first. Legal I suppose (won't mention the ethics part) and if they can sell them at the prices offered it will be the best sales job in history.

Fury as Ticketmaster directs Rolling Stones fans to ‘sister site’ charging more than £15,000 a ticket
Tickets on sale on official seller's sister site for up to £15,400 Ticketmaster refutes claims of 'ticket-touting' saying they don't set prices on market site Get Me In! Rolling Stones will play two gigs in London and two in the United States to mark their 50th anniversary next month. By SARA MALM PUBLISHED: 07:41 EST, 22 October 2012 | UPDATED: 08:17 EST, 22 October 2012 Fans of the Rolling Stones are up in arms after tickets to the band's sold-out London concerts are being offered on a second-hand ‘ticket-tout’-website owned by the official ticket seller for up to £15,400. Tickets to the two gigs sold out in minutes on Ticketmaster.co.uk, which is now directing fans to eBay-style ticket market Get Me In! where members of the public sell their tickets for up to 30 times the face value. The high prices, which are set by the individual seller, has angered many fans, including a former promoter, who says Ticketmaster is operating a ‘scam’ , as they make a profit from sales on Get Me In! Tickets to the Rolling Stones' two concerts at London's O2 arena went on sale on Ticketmaster.co.uk last week and was sold out in under 20 minutes. Seats offered at hiked up prices began appearing on second-hand ticket sites such as viagogo, Seatwave and Get Me In!, moments later, as private buyers sought to make a profit from desperate fans. Get Me In! is described as ‘an open market place for consumers to resell and buy tickets’ and is owned by Ticketmaster. When contacted by the MailOnline, Ticketmaster said that although they make a profit from the sales on Get Me In! it is the sellers, not the company which set the sometimes ludicrous prices. 'When a seller sets a price, like 15 grand, that is just a listing and there is no guarantee that the ticket will sell at that price,' a spokesperson for Ticketmaster said. Harvey Goldsmith, a promoter who has organised Stones’ tours in the past, tweeted ‘Why is it on Rolling Stones you can only get tickets through Get Me In. Nothing less than £660-£15,400??’ One Rolling Stones fan said: ‘Ticketmaster in effect have become ticket touts.’ Another fan tweeted ‘Ticketmaster rolling stones tickets £105 were gone in 20mins. Their sister site (get me in) has a shed load priced aprox £400 #scam #wrong.’ The most expensive tickets listed on Get Me In! is a set of two seats in the A2 block, right in front of the stage, going for £30,800, the face value of each ticket is thought to be £406. Rival website Viagogo has standing tickets listed for up to £9,999 and the site’s cheapest A2 ticket is going for £2,874. Get Me In!, which was bought by Ticketmaster in 2008, is a completely legal operation which is run independently of Ticketmaster. A spokesperson for Ticketmaster refuted the claims that the site transfers tickets to their sister site. 'Tickets that are intended for sale on Ticketmaster are sold through Ticketmaster. None of those tickets are transferred onto Get Me In! whatsoever. That is 100 per cent definite. We do not move inventory between sites.' the spokesperson told The Telegraph. Ticketmaster’s website states that they offers consumers the choice to search Get Me In! if tickets to an event is no longer available on their own. The band are set to play four gigs, two in London and two in the United States to mark their 50th anniversary next month. The group's four core members - Sir Mick, guitarists Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood and drummer Charlie Watts - now have a combined age of 273 years. Another raised hand amongst the frustrated and disgruntled. I was looking forward to finally taking my girls (14 & 12) to see their dad's favourite band. Not even the Stones are worth these prices.
I am content with continued archival releases. Greed is a terrible thing. |

I for one am hella excited for the PPV. I'll have crystal clear sound and a close-up view of the whole band with a beer in one hand and a fatty in the other. The band must really be confident to do it live, and I'm excited to see their stage, their back-up line-up, and of course their guests. Bring it!

The PPV is a home run idea. I'm expecting to pay 100 bucks for the video. Another 100 if I want audio too. And another 100 just because.

from the Belfast Telegraph
Stone me, Mick will be rolling in money By Nuala McKeever Monday, 22 October 2012 No satisfaction: Stones tickets cost up to £375 Much uproar at the announcement that tickets for the Rolling Stones gigs at the O2 Arena will cost up to £375. Given that the band’s rumoured to be making £15m from playing just four concerts, you gotta wonder who comes up with these figures. Maybe the guys totted up their ages and thought the total would be a good figure for a ticket price. Since they’re all stinking rich by now, the actual numbers probably don’t mean much to them. And if you’re happy to go on stage for 50 years and sing, “I can’t get no, satisfaction” over and over again, then there’s a chance you live in a world where you see yourself as cutting edge and rebellious with no need to dabble in the bourgeois world of cash and profit margins. As long as the bottles of booze and buckets of drugs keep coming you’re okay. Obviously, in later years, that rider has changed to bottles of mineral water and buckets of herbal tea and cocoa. Based on the most recent photos of the superannuated four, quite a lot of the profit will have to go to keeping Mick supplied with hair colouring. His eyebrows alone are such an unnatural shade of young man brown, the dye must be costing him a fortune. Paint it green: Rolling Stones tickets in Newark reach 'insane' $600K online
By Peggy McGlone/The Star-Ledger on October 25, 2012 at 7:30 AM 'The primary on-sale will be mad ... the market will be flooded.' Getty Images NEWARK —When it comes to buying tickets to the upcoming Rolling Stones concerts in Newark, you can’t always get what you want — unless you have a lot of money. That’s bad news for long-time fans like Joe Della Ferra, a Belleville resident who has seen shows on every Rolling Stones tour since 1972, when he was 15 and admission was $6.50. Della Ferra doesn’t have $750 to shell out for good seat to the Dec. 13 and 15 concerts at the Prudential Center — the only North American shows on the band’s four-date 50th anniversary tour. And he certainly does the have an extra $600,000 for a spot in the general admission floor area — no seat included — for the first show, as listed on StubHub on Wednesday."That’s insane," Della Ferra, 55, said of the tickets prices. "I’m very disappointed. I paid $150 for the last tour. I don’t see myself paying more than that." Pre-sales for VIPs and American Express cardholders were held this week, which is why secondary marketplace sites like StubHub are flooded with thousands of tickets. Prices start at $380 on StubHub, which Wednesday listed 4,624 available tickets for the Newark shows. More than 300 were listed for $10,000 or more. Tickets for the general public go on sale at noon Friday, when Ticketmaster releases the rest of the inventory. Prices are $95, $150, $250, $450 and $750 (or $114.80 to $813 when you include service fees). "The primary on-sale will be mad," ticket broker Andrea Pedersen said. "The market will be flooded." The legendary band is celebrating its 50th anniversary with four concert dates: Nov. 25 and 29 at the O2 Arena in London and the two December shows at the Prudential Center. The final show in Newark will be a live pay per view TV special, "One More Shot." Industry officials expect additional concert dates to be announced for next year. Few acts can capture the kind of frenzy the Rolling Stones have generated on ticket sites this week. One-quarter of the visitors to her online ticket exchange, QueenBeeTickets. com, are interested in the Stones concerts, which places them on par with the Super Bowl and Barbra Streisand, Pedersen said. "And this is just the beginning," she said. "There is a lot of interest." While demand is high, the supply remains a mystery. A Prudential Center spokesman referred all questions about the concert to a Rolling Stones representative, who would not disclose the total capacity for the two concerts, or how many tickets will be available Friday, after all the pre-sales have closed. Bruce Springsteen holds the record for attendance at the Newark arena with more than 19,000 at his concert last November, an arena official said. But Springsteen played in the round, and the Ticketmaster schematic for the Rolling Stones concerts suggests they will not sell tickets in sections behind the stage. Ticketmaster is ready for what it believes will be extraordinary demand Friday. "When you get something that is this high profile, this level of beloved artist, it is special," a spokeswoman said. "But it is something we do every day." Promoter John Scher said only two or three acts can pull this off: Streisand and Springsteen in the northeast, and the Rolling Stones. "You can count them on one hand, the artists who can ask for anything they want," Scher said. "The Stones are big, they can charge a lot of money and they are. "We are in a very affluent area, the metro New York, New Jersey area, and there’s an airport 10 minutes away so the crazy rich just can fly in," he said. In fact, Michael Davidson of the Greater Newark Convention and Visitors Bureau reports the 500 downtown hotel rooms in downtown Newark are booked for the four days around the Stones’ shows. "This is going to be a big boom for the city," Davidson said. "With 36,000 tickets available, we’re expecting this could mean 12,000 room nights over the four-day period." Ticket brokers agree. A StubHub spokeswoman said the two Newark shows "will definitely end up being one of the top-selling concerts for us in company history, and that’s huge considering it’s not in a stadium." Pedersen said visitors aren’t buying the tickets listed on her site yet because the primary sale isn’t over. But after Friday, she said she can’t predict what will happen. But she won’t be surprised. "They may not play again," she said of the aging rockers. "So really the sky’s the limit." |

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/music-news/9634382/Rolling-Stones-fans-pay-less-for-concert-tickets-and-holiday-to-New-York.html
Rolling Stones fans 'pay less for concert tickets and holiday to New York' Rolling Stones fans left disappointed by the high price of tickets to the band’s concerts in Britain were tonight given a piece of good news – but with a catch. Researchers found that fans wanting top flight tickets to the 50th anniversary tour concert, will pay less than half for seats in New York than in Britain. Experts from the Viagogo site, a secondary ticketing company, say that, including flights, hotels and spending money, fans will be better off travelling to the east coast of America than try and secure the best tickets in Britain. Tickets for the band's two concerts at London's O2 arena next month sold out in a reported seven minutes last week through Ticketmaster.co.uk, the official ticket seller and some are now being offered for more than £15,000 each. The average price for a British ticket on Europe's largest ticket exchange is more than £700 compared to about £340 in the US for pre sale tickets. Tickets for the series of concerts in America go on sale to the general public tomorrow ahead of the scheduled gigs on December 13 and 15 at the Prudential Centre, Newark, New Jersey. But Viagogo experts calculated that it would be cheaper for fans to take a holiday to New York with top flight tickets than to try and secure similar tickets in Britain. They estimated that for two people to purchase £350 tickets each, return flights, hotel and have £200 spending money, it would set them back about £2000. Europe's largest ticket exchange said that more than 170,000 searches from British fans have been made in less than a week about American dates for the tour. “Brits are jumping at the second chance to see the Stones live – especially now they can bag themselves tickets and a trip to NYC for less than some of tickets being listed to see the band [in Britain],” said Ed Parkinson, the director of Viagogo UK. Rolling Stones fans, including a former promoter of the band, have since complained that TicketMaster's website has directed them to a sister company selling tickets for up to £15,400 each. The website directs fans to Get Me In!, a so – called secondary ticketing site that is also owned by Ticketmaster, where tickets are on sale for more than 30 times their face value. Two tickets in the A2 block – which is situated right in front of the stage – are being sold on Get Me In! for £15,400 each. The face value of each is thought to be £406. A pair of tickets for their forthcoming British tour, were sold for a £15,000 at a charity auction today. Tonight the band was due to play a surprise warm-up gig, their first in five years, during an intimate show in Paris. Just 350 tickets went on sale for the event after it as announced on its official Twitter account. |

26 October 2012
Rolling Stones: What is a fair price for a concert ticket? By Mark Savage BBC News entertainment reporter The Rolling Stones are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year The cheapest ticket to see The Rolling Stones on their 2012 tour is £106, including booking fee. Is that a fair price to pay? We ask their fellow musicians. "The most overpriced gig ever," declared Fox News. "Fans are fuming," said the Huffington Post. "Mick will be rolling in money," opined the Belfast Telegraph. Why? Because the cheapest ticket to see The Rolling Stones at the O2 arena in London next month is £106. If you want Mick and Keith to be anything more than spindly stick figures in the distance, prices go to £406. And a VIP hospitality ticket, which guarantees a place inside the terrifyingly-named "tongue pit" at the edge of the stage, is £1,140. Fans of the band aren't happy. "I was on the net before 9:00 and the cheapest tickets were £326," Ross Hatt told the BBC. "I couldn't pay that amount. Am gutted!" The Stones were paid £5 each (about £88 in today's money) for their first gig at the Marquee Club in 1962 "For that kind of money, they'd better let me play the drums," joked US radio presenter Richard Dixon on Twitter. Perhaps as a result, 350 tickets for a Paris warm-up show were released for just £12 - but in general, seeing the Stones is an expensive endeavour. So what do fellow musicians make of it all? Are they envious the veteran rockers can command such high prices? And would they follow suit, if they could? Opinion is divided. "Haven't they got enough money already?" asks Tom Chaplin from Keane, whose current tour is priced between £31 and £52. "It's exclusive, that's the problem. It doesn't open their music to young kids coming along, which is a shame really. It'll be just a bunch of people in suits." But James Dean Bradfield of Welsh rockers The Manic Street Preachers says the Stones have earned the right to charge what they like. "They're above and beyond reproach," he tells the BBC. "They exist in absolute isolation from everybody else. It's impossible to judge them and it's impossible to take any standards off them. They really are an institution, not even in the bad sense of that word. They just are what they are." Alice Cooper agrees. "For the Stones, I would pay anything," he says. "You know, they're the Stones." The US star is bringing his "Hallowe'en Night Of Fear" to Wembley Arena this weekend. Although his shows traditionally feature lavish props - from guillotines to a two storey-high Frankenstein's monster - he is charging fans a relatively low £42. Not that he's aware. "I don't even know what our tickets go for, to be honest with you," he laughs. "I don't get into that at all. I'm sure they're a lot cheaper than the Stones, though." Production costs Ticket prices have soared over the last decade as revenues from recorded music have gone down. According to Forbes, almost all of the top 25 highest-paid musicians in 2011 made the bulk of their money from touring. At the top of the pile were U2, who sold more than $700m (£437m) worth of tickets over their two-year 360 world tour, the most lucrative series of concerts in history. However, the magazine noted that some tours were more profitable than others. Lady Gaga had similar box office figures to Elton John - but the costs of her elaborate production, from back-up dancers to elaborate costumes and hydraulic puppets, ate into her profits significantly. The result of this wilful extravagance? The impoverished Gaga made "just" $90m in 2011, said Forbes, compared to Sir Elton's $100m. But the economics of touring are complex. Many big acts do not break even until they have been on the road for weeks, or even months. Production costs range from hiring trucks, pyrotechnics and video screens to catering expenses, hotel rooms and insurance. Even when acts secure sponsorship from big-name brands, some of those costs are inevitably passed on to the fan. Interstellar sci-fi rock band Muse have become known for their ambitious stage shows - lead singer Matt Bellamy has a long-gestating plan to land a UFO during one of their stadium gigs - but they insist they try to keep ticket prices down. "We don't always break even, to be honest," says bassist Chris Wolstenholme, who is charging between £33 and £65 at London's O2 arena this week. "You want to make some money but at the same time the most important thing is to go out and play live. We probably could make a lot more, if we went out with no production and charged ridiculous ticket prices. But it's not all about that. "We've tried to keep the prices as low as we possibly can. Maybe some other bands should try and do the same, but it's a difficult one." Muse are known for their elaborate stages and frenetic video installations What's a reasonable price, then? For some, it's a question of scale. "If we play a show in London, £10 or £15 seems fair," says Joe Newman of up-and-coming art-rock outfit Alt-J, favourites for this year's Mercury Prize. Tim Burgess of The Charlatans says he regularly pays "about two quid" to see new bands play at local club nights, while Alice Cooper admits the most he ever paid for a concert ticket was "a whopping five dollars". And who did he go to see? The Rolling Stones, in Phoenix, Arizona, circa 1965. "That was like two weeks of gas for my car, but it was worth it," he recalls. "It was Brian Jones, Bill Wyman, the original Rolling Stones." These days, of course, he would be put straight onto the guest list - which might explain why veteran rockers consistently set prices that seem unconnected from the real world - they never have to pay them. So, what does Sir Mick reckon about this fuss over his £400 tickets? "Well, I know it's a lot, really," he tells BBC Radio 4's Front Row, in an interview to be broadcast next month. "But there seems to be a demand and that's good. "I'm not going to get into it any further." |

I apologize if this has been said before.
The Stones should really consider donating profits from these Newark shows back to the Tri State Area given the wreckage caused by Hurricane Sandy. It will look more greedy than it already does to have these shows in the midst of an area which has been devastated & take years to rebuild. |

After every major disaster rock bands generally put on a benefit concert to raise money. Nellie you're right this would be a tremendous opportunity to "do the right thing". My hunch is donation will be made and hopefully a huge one. As far as a benefit concert I think this is the Bosses right to step up first. |

Since when are the Stones known for their philanthropic way of life? They do not give a fuck as far as I know. They may give to charities individually, I'll grant you that. But last time I checked they weren't on the Concert for Bangladesh line-up either. The Stones only care for themselves and their own. They don't even give a shit for those people who have financed their fame for the past 50 years, buying every record and book and going to every concert they could afford, otherwise they wouldn't so blatantly pull their fans by the hair from behind, make them bend over and then fuck them in the arse. My heart goes out to everyone affected by Sandy, but it has nothing to do with the Stones. Why don't Wall Street give all THEIR profits (for a change) for the neighbourhood in which the house stands from which they fleeced the world and caused the current recession? And may I just mention that they only got reprimanded lightly for doing so and are carrying on as ever? America is a rich country, it can look after their own. The Stones are the Stones: a group of rich, wrinkly, greedy men with a license to print money. I hope they prove me wrong, but I can't see them giving a dime to anyone. |

The Nicaragua earthquake benefit in January, 1973; Toronto SARS benefit show in July 2003 and 'Concert for NYC' (Mick and Keith) in October of 2001 would all lead me to believe that they would certainly help. If not a specific benefit performance, perhaps a portion of ticket sales or % of say, the PPV.
While their recent ticket prices make them out to be greedy (certainly my opinion), that still doesn't take away from what they've done in the past to assist with events that had a toll on human life and suffering. No arguing what NY means to the Stones... |

Cool little article I found:
The Rolling Stones will not last forever Published 11/01/2012 | By Elliot Greiner THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The disbandment of The Stones seems like some fantastical event far off in the future, like the cure for cancer or Arnold Schwarzenegger’s retirement; but in reality it is just around the corner. Time is not on the band’s side anymore, as their age and extravagance has caught up with them; Keith Richard’s body has looked ready to expire for the past ten years. However, the music icons are not resigning without one last hurrah. Their first release in six years, “Doom and Gloom”, proves to be a bluesy lick that showcases what the Stones do best – Rock N’ Roll. While I wouldn’t venture to call the song groundbreaking, it is heavily redolent of "Exile on Main Street"- The Glimmer Twins have not lost their luster. The guitar is raw and, paired with Charlie Watt’s signature drumming style, blissful. Jagger pounds out the notes on his blues harp while still delivering vocals that sound equivalent to those of their golden days. “Doom and Gloom” is superficially a tirade against the current state of the world, though in the end, comes off as an unwanted goodbye to such a brilliant career. But what a marvelous 50 years it’s been. |

Rolling Stones Finally Make Deal for Brooklyn Show
11/06/12 1:55pm Roger Friedman Hey kids, it’s not all Doom and Gloom: I told you first at the end of the summer that the Rolling Stones would play at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Then things got weird as Virgin Live and the promoter Paul Dainty were busy also negotiating with the Prudential Center in Newark. But now I can tell exclusively that a Barclays date has been worked out for December 8th. It’s the only open day in the busy Barclays schedule of Nets games. My sources say the announcement is imminent. This would make Brooklyn first before New Jersey on December 13th and 15th. Tricky stuff here: the Stones will debut their documentary “Crossfire Hurricane” on November 15th on HBO. But there’s been a real hurricane since all this stuff started. Maybe the Stones will announce a special charitable donation, or a show dedicated to the victims to help raise much needed funds for the vast numbers of homeless folks. In any case, with Brooklyn locked down for one show, which will sell out in 2 seconds flat, my guess is a fourth show — maybe Madison Square Garden– cannot be far behind. And after that, a good ol’ fashioned tour. Stay tuned. Or as they say in Stones land now, “Grrrrr….!” http://www.showbiz411.com/2012/11/06/rolling-stones-finally-make-deal-for-brooklyn-show |

Mick Taylor's concert in Aviles, Spain scheduled for November 24 has now been postponed to....December 15th for 'health reasons'
A change which rules out any involvement at the two Newark shows and which also indicates that he was never invited to begin with. His London show at Cadogan Hall on November 30th still seems to be on OK, which augurs a bit better for the possibility of a cameo at the Stones' London shows on November 25th and 29th. That's if you think the switch for 'health reasons' may be code for 'dress rehearsals for the 02' |

Rolling Stones Stand By Sky-High Ticket Prices, And That Shouldn't Be a Surprise
November 9 2012, 1:38 PM ET by Marc Hogan "Let them eat cake," guitarist Ronnie Wood did not add. Look, what you're about to read isn't even a particularly original argument anymore. Thinkers like Thomas Frank have already contended persuasively that the '60s posture of rebellion, rather than challenging the moneyed establishment, actually echoed what corporate America's top marketers were already thinking. In other words, the Clash were wrong: You can't turn rebellion into money. Rebellion already is money; it's called capitalism ("creative destruction"!). Add to that how the Rolling Stones, led by a once-promising London School of Economics student, did pretty much what British imperialists had done for centuries, taking artistic influences that once had been communal and then stamping their copyright on them. Lewis Hyde wrote the book on that shit. What we're saying is, if you're surprised the Stones are unashamed about charging almost as much for their second-cheapest concert tickets as the typical American household earns in a month, life may continue to be hard for you. And yet, unashamed they are, and consistently so. Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood might've come the closest to a "47 percent" comment this week when he protested to the Telegraph, "We've got to make something." But Mick Jagger told Billboard basically the same thing, citing the cost of producing the shows. And last month Keith Richards, asked whether the band will indeed make not only something, but £16 million ($25.5 million) for their services, told the Guardian, "£16 million sounds about right to us." Just how expensive are tickets to the Stones' planned four 50th-anniversary shows? As Buzzfeed explains, the cheapest seats at the band's two New Jersey shows were going for a mere $114.80, service fees included. The next tier of prices, though, brings you all the way up to $813. Ouch. Premium seating options range from $1,353.50 for a "Silver Hot Seat Package" to $2,453.50 for a "Gold VIP Package." And we aren't even talking about what scalpers might be charging for these things. Jagger, in the Billboard interview, suggested part of the reason these particular ticket prices are so high is because the Stones aren't benefiting from economies of scale. "You might say, 'The tickets are too expensive' — well, it's a very expensive show to put on, just to do four shows, because normally you do a hundred shows and you'd have the same expenses," he's quoted as saying. But Richards has suggested that the Stones don't plan just to do four shows. Wood recently told the AP, "We won't be able to stop." So if and when the Stones announce a full tour after justifying their ticket prices based on the fact they were only playing four shows, don't be surprised. They'll definitely have plenty to play. Career-spanning compilation GRRR!, including new songs "Doom and Gloom" and "One More Shot," arrives on November 13, just before the Stones' HBO documentary, Crossfire Hurricane. After all, there are consumers to satiate. Here's Jagger talking to Billboard about ticket prices again: "So, yes, it's expensive. But most of the tickets go for a higher price than we've sold them for, so you can see the market is there." See how he totally stuck it to The Man by rationalizing his actions through free-market economics? If not, we have a Who-endorsed Hummer we'd like to sell you. http://www.spin.com/#articles/rolling-stones-stand-by-sky-high-ticket-prices-and-that-shouldnt-be-a-surprise |

I provisionally booked a twin room at the Premier Inn Docklands (Excel) for that night a couple of weeks before the shows were confirmed at a bargain price but now won't be needing the room as I won't be going to the gig. It should be easy enough to change the booking but rather than simply cancel the booking (I havent paid any deposit) I'd rather let someone get it for the same price as I did, because you can be pretty certain that if I cancel and it goes on sale again it'll be offered for a lot more than the £50 deal that I got! |

I've absolutely no interest in getting a flight to sit in a nosebleed in THAT venue and certainly not at that price. Nor am I paying over face value for what is already a rip-off. Availability of tickets was never going to be an issue. The fact that they're charging prices that I find offensive and indefensible is. I refuse to play along with it as a matter of principle. I'm a bit disappointed in some ways that I'm not going but in all honesty that's considerably outweighed by the satisfaction that, for once, I had the strength to say "no". |

Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood have both recently defended the prices of the Rolling Stones London shows (which range from £100 to £1000), both claiming they would see little of the money made and that most went into staging their spectacular show.
Then just stop with the SPECTACULAR SHOW"and just play Rock-n-Roll...IMO By spectacular, I assume they mean a very stiff cartoon of a naked chic riding a tongue...an inflatable tongue that goes limp half way thru the song... or maybe a 30 ft Gorilla in a tongue t-shirt ( ala The Grateful Dead MSG shows) |

Title: Re: The Rolling Stones in London & Newark - Offici Post by Gazza on Nov 21st, 2012 at 6:43am
So what they're basically saying is that maybe half of your ticket price is going towards the bit of painted metal and wood that they'll be performing on. So effectively its Mark Fisher (or whoever designed the stage) who's getting the payday from this - not the band.
And that you're expected to believe that and maybe even get excited about it. Incredible. On a side note, I understand that due to late night engineering works by London transport, the 02 shows will now commence at 8 pm - not 8.45. Not sure if it's been confirmed by the Stones organisation yet (dont hold your breath, if so) but the company running the corporate hospitality have brought forward the start time of their pre-show event to 5 pm because of this. |

Rolling Stones' new stage offers a mix of cozy, crazy
Marco R. della Cava, USA TODAY When the Rolling Stones kick off their new tour in London, they'll unveil a stage that will help the band tell its story through the ages with intimacy and spectacle. 7:09AM EST November 23. 2012 - What do bridges, lounges, inflatable dancing girls and oversized phalluses have in common? They've all taken center stage at Rolling Stones shows, which in 50 years have gone from stripped-down jams to state-of-the-art spectacles. When the venerable British band starts up the first of five "50 and Counting" shows Sunday at London's O2 Arena, it remains to be seen what sort of stage will greet fans. But bank on it being a methodically planned creation that will shatter expectations. "Every stage we've done has reflected the band and the zeitgeist," says Patrick Woodroffe, the Stones' lighting designer who for three decades has helped Mick Jagger and his mates turn visions into reality. "But it's never just spectacle for spectacle's sake. Keith (Richards) always calls the stage 'the office.' It's where they work and everything has to be right." What little is known about the new stage is that it will feature the band's familiar lips-and-tongue logo anchored by a central standing-room, general-admission area. That's so the band can switch gears from stadium-rock anthems to tunes "that afford moments of huge intimacy," which hark back to the band's beginnings as a club act, says Woodroffe. But he adds that the concert's "emotional journey" through the Stones' career will be assisted by elaborately produced video clips as well as "hugely flamboyant" set pieces. "The Stones are, after all, not just the soundtrack to many of our lives, they're the movie, too," he says. Stones stagecraft has always risen to the occasion, whether it be the massive, industrial production that was their 1989 Steel Wheels stage or riffing off the then-nascent Internet scene on their 1994-1995 Voodoo Lounge tour, says Patrick Doyle, an assistant editor at Rolling Stone. But while the Stones have long amped up their stage shows, this time they just might tone things down. "Keith has said that sometimes elaborate stages and lighting can bog down a show because you can't be spontaneous in song selection," says Doyle. "With them rehearsing so many songs lately, I'd look for a more stripped-down stage that allows them freedom to mix songs up as they choose." The mini tour, which may yet give way to more dates, includes a second show in London on Nov. 29, one at Brooklyn's new Barclays Center on Dec. 8 and two at Newark's Prudential Center on Dec. 13 and 15. Guests include former band members Bill Wyman (bass) and Mick Taylor (guitar). But it's the core group, which includes Charlie Watts (drums) and Ron Wood (guitar), that steers this ship. "Usually, it's Mick and Charlie who come to me first with ideas, but Keith has a keen eye," says Woodroffe. "They're real craftsmen, so it's not just about whether a stage looks nice. It's checking what the floor feels like, what the sight lines are, what sound does it throw off. When they come look at the stage, they're like athletes stalking the field before the big game." http://www.usatoday.com/life/ |

So worth my $814.00...I apologize on behalf of everyone on RocksOff that complained about the prices...
Is there anyway we can let the band know we are sorry and understand their dilemma with the prices? :nanker :kissmyass :tongui :nooslajaleisk |

That is almost assured...I recall that U2 said that their 360 stage ( all 3 ) took about 5 days to set up and 3 to tear down...and that the band would only break even AFTER the first European AND N American legs were completed...amazing how you and i have to pay for the egos that touring ( because of the ""new record sales model") have created. I enjoyed the U2 tour...it was the BEST sound I have ever heard for a football stadium...and not a bad seat in the house due to the 360 screens...well...all the bad seats were the GA folks in the Pit and on the first half of the field. i scored a pair of tkts for $31.00 the day of...(papered) and sat w/ the $250.00 idiots |

The Furs are AWESOME!!! Glad you had a great time ( again). They missed Chapel Hill this round...Ashville was the closest ( maybe Richmond) ...didn't feel like driving 2-3 1/2 hrs |
