I would think they are almost required these days...these are the songs that let them catch their breaths...i mean that in a good way.
They do want to put on a good show...and if the slow ( and coveted) songs can allow them to crank it up a notch or two for a few more songs...I say YES!!! Lady Jane...Far Away Eyes...Dead Flowers...Dock On The Bay...Let It Bleed |

I'm so start-ed up by all the possibilities for the 2012 Stains that I'm practically rooting the budgerigar.
Going To A Go Go? Gawd luv them. The inlcusion of only one Black & Blue track on their hot new compo may be shameful, but I expect they'll make up for it with a totally nude Hey Negrita. young_gorilla_001.jpg (Attachment deleted) |

To answer all questions: YES we do have recorded "One more shot", don't know if we'll post this one as we don't want to be in trouble with the Stones or people working with them... maybe later but the song sounds a bit like "doom" , less rock more groovy with a better chorus. It would have been my choice for the first single instead of "Doom" We may post "I wanna be your man" as we love The Beatles over here. |

It really isnt a problem to do so.. 'Live' recordings of unreleased songs played by bands get uploaded or circulated all the time. Theres no difference in them uploading a performance of One More Shot than there is of Doom & Gloom, Satisfaction or anything else. If they were uploading the RELEASED version then THAT's a different matter. Neil Young has been playing songs on his tour from his upcoming album and theyre all over the internet and have even been webcast. |

Since they're rehearsing songs....
I'd like to remind the fellas rehearsing in Paris that Emotional Rescue was the first of the band’s albums to top the charts on both sides of the Atlantic since Goats Head Soup, five years earlier, it also became the one that spent longest at the top of any Stones album during the previous sixteen years, eventually spending a year on the US album chart. |

I'm no expert, but I thought U2 was dropping new stuff along the tour... but then did debut new to be released stuff a few times in Europe near the end... I may be wrong... so I'm in agreement and disagreement with you... They should be looking at Plundered or Tallahassie Lassie... Great, great songs... In the case of U2, they may have dropped new stuff, since the fans weren't buying the new album and embracing it.... |

Outside of Doom and Gloom, the most recent song they are working on is from 1994. I'm a huge fan of the Some Girls bonus stuff, but it seems like the band and the fans have forgotten it.

Title: Re: The Stones Paris rehearsals, October 2012 Post by Gazza on Oct 23rd, 2012 at 9:52am
The fans would need to have some shows first to go to to prove theyve 'forgotten' these songs.
I doubt the Stones will give them a chance to test their memory. I wouldnt get worked up about what theyre rehearsing from one day to the next - these arent 'setlists', theyre rehearsal sessions. Many of these songs will probbaly just be suggested at a moment's notice. And as they havent worked much together for ages, they're naturally going to work on songs theyre most familiar with to start off with anyway. Thats how theyve worked in the past. I dont think anyone going to a club show in Paris in the next week is going to give a damn about what they play anyway. Whether they're people there on a corporate junket or hardcore fans just grateful to get in for a very small sum to see the band onstage for the first time in five years. The whole point is give the band a feel for playing in front of an audience again. Its not necessarily a dry run for what the fans in London and Newark will be getting, especially as there is another month's worth of rehearsals to go. |

I disagree. I've sat in on numerous rehearsals for local bands and they practice what they are going to play on stage. Also, this past week I practiced three songs on my guitar for a family party where I'd be playing with a drummer. I didn't practice songs I wasn't going to play.
I think the Stones are doing the same. They are practicing the songs they are going to play on stage - Miss You, Doom and Gloom, Start me Up, Tumbling Dice, Jumpin Jack Flash. There's no reason to think that most of the songs they are jamming on aren't songs that will appear onstage. They are familiar with those songs because they always play them onstage. |

Just got back from the rehearsals and there was no friggin' chimp fortunately! There were quite a few burly gentlemen though keeping a watchful eye but the crowd of 15/20 was rather peaceful ;-) Arrived for the last hour and heard Respectable, YCAGWY, Paint it Black, YGMR, HTW, Worried About You with a nice falsetto by Mick who wasn't sparing his voice. The windows must have been opened because you could hear them really well, quite an experience! I had my 6 year old with me and Keith's assistant (Bill ?) kindly gave him a pick from Milan 2006. They waived goodbye from their limos but we only really saw Charlie and Ronnie together in the first car as they had the interior lights on. They left first followed closely by Keith then Mick a few minutes later who stuck out his hand... Oh and they sounded rather good, Keith's playing on HTW sounded as good as ever, an excellent surprise after last year's scary videos with Costello and for the Summlin tribute. |

Uncut says it's weaker than D&G and that it's a mixture between SFM and Mixed Emotions, being closer to the latter unfortunately. I think I also read somewhere that it had a chorus sounding like ACDC's "You shook me all night long"...

Does sound a bit disappointing on paper and even more so now that I've read Mick's interview in Uncut where he says it has a moderate tempo, hence his decision to use a faster track of his own, i.e. D&G. Who knows though, you might prefer it to D&G, anyway we'll like it I'm sure. The only thing is that we shouldn't expect the smart lyrics of D&G, one of its major appeals, Mick's best lyrics since possibly Saint of Me or even Wandering Spirit and they didn't have that "political" dimension.

Ronnie Wood confirms the Rolling Stones will play club shows in Paris in 2012
ROLLING STONESOCTOBER 23, 2012BY: CARLA HAY http://www.examiner.com/article/ronnie-wood-confirms-the-rolling-stones-will-play-club-shows-paris-2012 Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has confirmed rumors that the band will play nightclub shows in Paris in late October 2012 and/or early November 2012 at venues to be announced. The only date and location that have been confirmed by several media outlets is October 29, 2012, at the Carmignac Gestion. Several people on Rolling Stones fan sites have said that the Carmignac Gestion show on October 29 is by invitation only. The other rumored nightclub shows are expected to have tickets sold to the public Wood told NME that at these nightclub gigs, the Rolling Stones will be billed under an alias, such as the Cockroaches: "We’re all making a concentrated effort of being there on time every day, we start at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, we go through to dinner time, we have one break and so far everything has been [like] an operation, nose to the grindstone. We wanna give 200 percent. "There’s going to be little club gigs that we’re gonna surprise ourselves to do as well, we’ll bung a few in next week or the week after, so look out for any Cockroaches gigs or whatever! I don’t know who we’ll be billed as but we’ll turn up somewhere and put a few to the test. Tiny, 200, 300 people kind of places." As previously reported, the Rolling Stones have announced performances at the O2 Arena in London on November 25 and November 29, 2012, and at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on December 13 and December 15, 2012. The last time the Rolling Stones performed in concert was on August 20, 2007, which was the last date of the tour for "A Bigger Bang." Wood and Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards have hinted in interviews that the Rolling Stones will be doing a full-scale tour in 2013. The Rolling Stones have been rehearsing in Paris. Rolling Stones fan sites have been posting the set lists. Here are the reported set lists for October 22 and October 23, 2012: October 22, 2012 Tumbling Dice Route 66 It's Only Rock and Roll She's So Cold When The Whip Comes Down Champagne and Reefer Miss You Start Me Up Midnight Rambler Jumping Jack Flash Doom & Gloom Shattered Some Girls Rip This Joint That's How Strong My Love Is Just My Imagination October 23, 2012 Route 66 It's Only Rock and Roll When the Whip Comes Down Little red Rooster Doom and Gloom Miss You Tumbling Dice Start Me up Jumping Jack Flash Brown Sugar All Down the Line Respectable You Can't Always Get What You Want You Got Me Rocking Let It Bleed Honky Tonk Women Paint It, Black Worried About You |

After today's excitement, the next gig seems to be the corporate show for Carmignac at the Theatre Mogador in Paris next Monday (29th).
Still officially just a rumour, but it seems pretty certain. Significantly bigger venue (1,600 capacity) but it seems little or no chance of public tickets being sold. The Stones also shot the video for "Doom and Gloom" in Paris yesterday. |

Again, its not a 'setlist' but more of a rehearsal rota.
If they were, say, playing a show in a day or two's time and had rehearsed that, you could probably consider it to be something of a 'dry run' of what thyeyre going to play on the night but with four weeks to go they're (to quote Keith from an interview during a Toronto reharsal in '94) 'still chasing a show' |
|
Title: Re: The Stones Paris rehearsals, October 2012 Post by Steel Wheels on Oct 31st, 2012 at 8:38am
We're getting into semantics here. It's a setlist - a list of songs performed in a setting. What is a list of songs? What are songs on a list? Should we call it a rehearsal performance list? And if it's not written down is it really a list? And without being there, the entire thing could be fake. How many false leads have been posted on the internet and newspapers over the years? (I know I have been given bogus info from my inner sources for so long now that I take whatever I'm told with a grain of salt.)
But the bottom line here is none of us are Mick or Keith or their staff. But based upon two shows I can see why fans look at these rehearsal performances as what will be performed on stage. No matter what though - the greatest band of all time is soon coming to the O2 center and then the Prudential center! |

Yep. They played OOC a small number of times on the ABB tour early on, as I recall...in the warhorses section...and then dropped it after a show in Seattle on 30.10.05. It got played in Milan in June 2003 - the only Licks performance, I think. The Stones didnt get to play Italy on the BTB tour (due to them postponing a Milan show scheduled for May 30 when Keith fell off a ladder in his library and cracked ribs and then the rescheduled date on June 16 was cancelled as Mick had throat problems) so maybe it was their way of a belated promotion of that album. Worried About You was played in a few arenas on the last tour - including one of the MSG dates I was at. They also played it in a stadium gig in Buenos Aires a month later! |

Title: Re: The Stones Paris rehearsals, October 2012 Post by gotdablouse on Oct 31st, 2012 at 6:13pm
Thanks for these details, not much air time for OOC but it's still better than most any new song on a subsequent tour since 1981...the only exception I can think of being "You Got Me Rocking", not the song I prefer...

A post on Shidoobee seems to suggest the show is going to be divided into 3 parts spanning different which might explain all the performances of consecutive early songs.
And Out Of Control has the same problem a lot of the latter era songs do - decent music but cringeworthy lyrics. |

I was never a fan of Bill (especially since he went after the 14 year old Mandy Smith and the fact that he left the Stones) and could care less about him appearing with the band. I think the sudden interest in his appearance is odd since not a lot of people cared he wasn't there for the Voodoo Lounge tours and everything after outside of fan boards. I read all the comments on Yahoo News and other outlets about Bill, and now all of a sudden people are coming out of the woodwork about how great it is that Bill will be a special guest. It's strange how the possibility of Bill's appearance is getting so much attention.

Not at all. Site one article written over the past 20 years, one review, one major publication citing anything about the hole Bill left in their sound. Not one review of an album starting with Voodoo Lounge right up to the present has stated, "Bill Wyman's bass is missing on this record."
Maybe I'm wrong, but I have yet to see it. Please prove me wrong. I've love to see it outside of fan boards. |

No offense, I think that you are too young to understand the importance of this track, it was just after the departure of Mick Traylor, everyone thought it was going to be hard for the Stones and this track, although different from anything they had done earlier stages, it was a Killer One in the context of these time, half rasta, half funk, just great. Whenever I hear this song now I think of those years and I am still the same effect, although they have a lot of trouble, especially Jagger in Live version. Anyway , i guess they' ll try it this year on stage , even if the groove of this one is particulary difficult to get . |

VERY COOL!!! Question...How was the audience...did they clap between songs...It wasn't a concert...or was it more like a rehearsal w/ guests allowed to watch and listen... whisper between songs...??? Curious... |

Yes we'd been told to be quiet as the band was working, but when we arrived Keith greeted us ans asked how we were doing, so that put everyone at ease...basically they just carried on with the work at hand, seemingly oblivious to the fact that there were 40 people looking at them...at times I felt we were almost prying on them, especially when they got Charlie to get that part on "That's How Strong My Love Is" like they wanted, restarting four or five times, but then these guys have seen it all and you have to think they knew what they were doing.
About the clapping, it was really impossible not to clap after they finished "Live with Me" and since no one objected we did it again after each song and I'm not sure about the others, but I couldn't help but sing too at times, especially when Mick was bouncing around after he left his piano during "Worried About You" and during "That's How Strong"...and a few others now that I think of it ;-) I was standing just to the right of Bjornulf and his detailed review is spot on if I may say so myself : http://www.iorr.org/tour12/paris3.htm |

Been away for a couple of days but just wanted to say thanks to gotdablouse, angelo and the other fans who e-mailed us (especially Sebi and Gwen) with info about these rehearsals.
Delighted for all of you who got into either of the two shows and especially for those of you who got to see the rehearsal on the final night. I'd honestly have traded in about 20 of the Stones gigs I've attended just for those 52 minutes. |

You're quite welcome, we happened to be there, but it was a reward meant for all the fans I'm sure so the least we could do was try to share some of the "emotions" we got during that month ;-)

Those lucky fans who got to see the rehearsals had the best gift The Stoned have ever offered any of us! That must have been a dream cum true for every diehard fan who got in!
