Jo Wood, the former wife of the Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, says mature women should not be criticised for ditching their bras.

Jo Wood, who was the subject of tabloid scrutiny last week after she wore a translucent top to a London party, has spoken out about why middle-aged women should not be criticised for ditching their bras.

“We should be allowed to go without,” declares the former wife of Ronnie Wood, the Rolling Stones guitarist. “I mean, they’re only breasts. It’s no big deal. We need to calm down about it.”

Wood, 57, points out that a younger woman also attended the event, the 33rd birthday party of Ben Caring, at Annabel’s nightclub, without her underwear. “Another girl did it, who’s in her twenties, so, what the hell?”

The former model, who now runs an organic beauty products firm, says she was unaware of the effect that the light would have on her outfit.

“I didn’t know you could see through that,” she said at the Inspiration Awards for women, at Cadogan Hall, in Chelsea. “I had no idea until I saw the photos. I went, 'How did that happen?’ My sons were probably more embarrassed than me.”

First thing, I do when I get home from work is take off my bra and shoes!

Heaven!

Although, I recently discovered these sports bras that are pretty comfortable.

P.S. Only time, I will go braless in public is if I am wearing a huge, bulky sweater or jacket!

OK the main reason Jo and most women should wear a bra is because it keeps the girls in place. She looks lopsided in that dress. It also holds the girls up which tend to sag with age and makes them look bigger and perkier. So unless you had a boob job, you need a bra when you are middle aged. Sad but true, the young girls have it over the middle aged women on this subject. But, like Gorda, I remove my bra as soon as I get home. Let it loose, let it all hang out! Its fine in private but in public, you look better so just do it and dont try to act like your boobs are just as good as they were in your 20-30's. Especially if you've had kids and nursed them.

Agreed Bitch. Bras are awful. Gravity and child nursing take more of a toll with the larger size a woman is. No sense in pretending. I may not look like I did when I was in my mid 20's, but I know a lot more. I'll take the knowledge and wear the bra.

Just so we're all on the same page, here's the picture that started the whole thing. (It was languishing in the "Big News" thread.) And maybe my standards have been lowered a bit in my dotage, but I don't think Jo looks too saggy or lopsided or anything. I think she looks pretty hot for 57.

Actually, many drag queens are quite beautiful! Their make up techniques are absolutely amazing!
