A source allegedly told the Sun the project is a done deal, saying, “Jimmy has been in the studio making sure everything is perfect. The band want it to remain true to their exceptionally high standards. It’s coming out on November 22 as part of a simultaneous global release.” Overdubbed to fuck, in other words, like every Zeppelin live album. What's the point? |

Dont think Stripped or Shine A Light were. And the archive releases havent been. Only the vocals on Ya Yas had overdubs. I can think of plenty of live albums that have minimal or no overdubs at all. However, the amount of dubbing and editing on Zeppelin's live albums renders the whole thing a bit redundant. See here - http://www.thegardentapes.co.uk/ Bit odd to do this five years after the event - why not back then? |

The European tour in summer 1980 was the last one. Their last US tour was 1977. The 02 gig was actually pretty good, based on the audio and video evidence. Plant did pretty well considering he no longer has the high register that he would have had in his 20's. I applied for tickets for it. Didnt really think I'd a chance in hell of getting them, though! |

I had tickets to see Zeppelin at the Superdome in New Orleans, but Plant's son died just before the date and they never returned.
I applied for tickets to O2 as well, only to be disappointed again. |

__________________________________________________ The 02 show was over-all pretty darndable good I agree. Plant, as you said, did what he could and he pulled it off well enough. They did as good as anyone could hope at that show and it I was impressed over-all. Still showed with some good months of practice and a solid rehearsal schedule in six months or seven months time of getting together and really working at it Led Zeppelin (with a fill in) were once again a top notch band for a night.... As I said to a buddy...sure they are not what they were but it's different now, and they sounded kina different ...but the same, and damn solid. Like I told him...aint not bar-band soundin like that mate. Still top notch for a night. I have no idear why they waited this long other than I think there was "hope" in the industry they would reunite and tour... When that never happened and Plant said... guess what everyone...I still just aint that into it (...still...).... people kina left it. Still not sure why someone didnt say...well hey....lets put out a live album of that if thats all were gonna get at least a bit sooner. - Ian |

Gazza wrote "and the archives haven't been [overdubbed]". Well, not quite. A bit of tweaking on Hampton 81, with very obvious vocal overdubs on Time is on My Side, perhaps from Still Life. Also, a mystery 3rd guitar seems to appear on LA Friday's Sympathy for the Devil. But it doesn't lessen the enjoyment of these releases and and tweaking by Jimmy Page for the Zeppelin release can be viewed the same.

Really? Presumably theyve sourced those recordings from tapes prepared (ie overdubbed) for Still Life, Love You Live etc. I cant imagine they went back into the studio three decades later and reworked the recordings. I dont think its unreasonable that Page does some work on the 02 shows, but their previous releases would suggest that it'll be quite a bit..which is, IMO, a bit excessive, as its not as if the shows were poor |

You took that badly. What the fuck are you talking about? No need to get personal about it. I'm not even a musician and my ear isnt good enough to detect stuff like that - nor would I even be anal enough to care to. Point was that I dont think the basic recordings were so bad as to warrant them being mostly re-created in a studio. I've had the original audio and video since they became available and enjoyed them enough for what they are. Personally, as a matter of principle I prefer a live record to be as undoctored as much as possible. Thats not to say I cant enjoy it if it isnt. sweetcharmedlife wrote on Sep 11th, 2012 at 10:41pm:

Anyway , it's a good idea for them & us to play again , Page is a great guitar player , last day i saw him was in Toulon 1998 , great gig!
the soundboards tapes from O2 arena were not so good but it'a always a pleasure to hear some music from a Legend instead of others bullshit that try to be one . So be positive , it's a good thing , i'm bored of all the sarcastics people . images_007.jpg (Attachment deleted) |

Gazza Wrote: I'm not even a musician and my ear isnt good enough to detect stuff like that - nor would I even be anal enough to care to. ______________________________________________ In school we took 1 hour ear training classes every other cycle. One of them cycles had a particular class to detect over-dubbs used in live recordings. My instructor, John Barry had "perfect pitch" hearing. He could detect things that were really something. I had trouble detecting overdubs in live recordings in class but I could detect it very obviously in Live At The Max. I told him this and he said to bring it in. I did... and he said these over-dubs are not much different than most and I asked..."well how come I know these are over-dubbed so easily"...yet the ones in class I have trouble. ...He said it was experience in listening to my band...not in the recordings themselves. I could detect Live Stones guitar recorded in a stadium from Faking Live Stones guitar in a studio due to the fact that I listened to the Stones all my life seriously and consistently to a degree. (As well he said the particular mix on At The Max had all instruments really separated and individualized versus everything blended together...and I agreed... and it made it that much easier for me). Same is true with everything... it doesn't take a great ear so to speak...just experience in picking them out. Gazza has a knack for it for one reason only...he LISTENS to ALOT of music!!! The engineer I first engineered with, Elan Trujillo, said when I first played ABB for him ...after he heard It Wont Take Long ...fouth song in.... I asked how do you like the albums sound in which he replied in a confused manner ..."seems like there is a lot of 'room' tones"... as in non-studio. He said it a bit confused because he wasn't understanding how proper sound reinforcement wasn't already in place and if not why didn't they put some into place in the multi-million dollar studios The Stones recorded in. However he was unaware that much of it was recorded at Jaggers house in which you can only do so much and as well they didn't try hiding it all the way ...in order to make it sound more "garage-like"... He had no idea..but was spot-on. Those guys taught me so much but they insisted the ONLY way to get good was to 1. get to know what your listening for and 2. Experience Ian |

Led Zeppelin to Release Concert Film
By JAMES C. MCKINLEY JR. Led Zeppelin, the hard-rock and seminal heavy metal band, will release a concert movie in October, just two months before the band is scheduled to be honored at the Kennedy Center in Washington for its weighty role in transforming rock music. The film, “Celebration Day,” depicts the tribute concert the band gave at London’s O2 Arena in December 2007 for Ahmet Ertegun, a founder of Atlantic Records. The concert was to raise money for an educational charity Mr. Ertegun had supported before his death a year earlier. The three surviving members – the guitarist Jimmy Page, the singer Robert Plant and the bassist John Paul Jones – were joined that night on drums by Jason Bonham, the son of the group’s original drummer, John Bonham, who died in 1980. During a two-hour show, the band played 16 of their hits, including “Whole Lotta Love,” “Rock and Roll” and “Stairway to Heaven.” Only about 18,000 of the 20 million people who had entered a lottery to get tickets saw the concert. But it was filmed. The group plans to have the premiere of the movie, directed by Dick Carruthers, in London, Los Angeles and New York, then release it to about 1,500 theaters around the world on Oct. 17. Then “Celebration Day” will be marketed in various video and audio formats on Nov. 19. Tickets to public screenings will go on sale on Sept. 13 on led-zeppelin.com. . |

A trailer is included here.
Led Zeppelin's 2007 Reunion Concert to Hit Theaters in October Check out a trailer for the film 'Celebration Day' Led Zeppelin performs at the O2 Arena in London. Ross Halfin/Exclusive by Getty Images By Andy Greene September 13, 2012 10:15 AM ET Led Zeppelin fans hoping that the band would announce a new tour this week will have to settle for the next best thing: a theatrical release of their 2007 one-night-only reunion concert. Entitled Celebration Day, the film will be released on 1,500 screens on October 17th. The concert – taped on December 10th, 2007 at London's 02 Arena – will then be released on "multiple audio and video formats" on November 19th. Check out a trailer for the movie below, featuring clips from "Good Times Bad Times," "Black Dog," Rock and Roll," "Stairway To Heaven" and "Whole Lotta Love." During the triumphant concert, Led Zeppelin played "like a band renewed, not merely reunited," wrote David Fricke in 2007. "Any doubts about Robert Plant's ability to still hit the high notes, his willingness to go stratospheric, were obliterated at the right, dramatic points in 'Since I've Been Loving You' and 'Kashmir.' John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham locked in like family. And Jimmy Page was a continual shock on guitar, mostly because he has played so little in public for the past decade." Afterward, there was intense demand for a tour, but Plant said he had no interest. "It was an amazing evening," he told Rolling Stone in 2011. "The preparations for it were fraught and intense, but the last rehearsal was really, really good, for all that it represented and all that we were trying to capture. But I've gone so far somewhere else that I almost can't relate to it." When asked again about any possible future reunion in that same interview, Plant made his position abundantly clear. "I see there's some kind of remit about the Tibetan Book of the Dead that we have to keep going back to," Plant said. "It's a bit of a pain in the pisser, to be honest. Who cares? I know people care, but think about it from my angle. Soon I'm going to need help crossing the street." It was also announced yesterday that Led Zeppelin will be one of the recipients of the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C. on December 2nd. Honorees do not traditionally perform at the ceremony. President Obama will speak, and another band will play their music. David Letterman, Buddy Guy, Dustin Hoffman and Natalia Makarova will also be honored at the event. I'm so glad I saw them live in '73, when they were on top of the game, they sure are some Rock & Roll Band, I remember wanting to play "Rock & Roll" in a band, & the singer couldn't sing that high in the key of A, which is the recorded key on the album, I know they had to go to a lower key on this concert, it must be E.

Led Zeppelin Dodge Reunion Questions
Rockers skirt the subject at a press conference in London John Paul Jones, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin attend a press conference to announce Led Zeppelin's new live DVD 'Celebration day' in London. Dave J Hogan/Getty Images By Rolling Stone September 21, 2012 11:30 AM ET Led Zeppelin dodged questions about possible reunion shows when surviving members Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones gathered for a press conference to launch Celebration Day, the film of their one-off concert at London's O2 Arena in 2007, The Guardian reports. "Let me ask you a question," responded Page when first asked about a reunion. "Have you seen the film? Did you enjoy it? Then we've done our job, haven't we?" Plant kept up the evading, rather than flat out denying: When another reporter asked if Zeppelin would "do it again," the singer replied, "With you?" The band also spoke about the concert film itself, which features all 16 cuts played at the 2007 concert, a tribute to Ahmet Ertegun, the iconic Atlantic Records head who first signed Zeppelin in 1968. The film will be released to theaters October 17th and will be available on multi-format home release on November 19th. When asked whether any of the live tracks were overdubbed, Page noted that they were kept to a minimum while Plant admitted some of the lyrics at the end of "Kashmir" were edited "because I was running out of steam." Filling in for late drummer John Bonham at that concert was his son, Jason. His performance was "absolutely monumental," Page said. "Nobody else could have done it." It wasn't the first time the younger Bonham had drummed with the group, as Plant noted: "We played with him before, at his wedding," said the frontman. "But sadly he decided to go to bed at his wedding reception. Because I was a friend of the family from way back, I was the one who had to go to his room and get him out of bed."
