Title: What is the best unreleased Stones song? Post by leonid on Sep 1st, 2012 at 10:27pm
What unreleased Stones song do you consider to be the best?
I nominate I Can See It aka Get yourself Together: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Re5yqkv_rDA |

Still a Fool is up there... damn I can't even think of them all... Cocksucker Blues is a close 2nd... such a great fuck you thing they did handing that song as athe goodbye to Klein, plus the song itself is really in your face, and I like raunchy rock n roll...

I always thought it was more of a fuck you to Decca. But I've gotta put Cocksucker Blues, aka Schoolboy Blues, at #1. It's a fairly intense song. I can almost imagine it on Sticky Fingers instead of Sister Morphine. I just read on Wikipedia that it was"a parody of Dr. John's "The Lonesome Guitar Strangler", released on his 1969 album Babylon". It's certainly not a parody, but I can hear the similarity, I guess. It's an interesting insight into Mick's songwriting, anyway. He took the first three words as a jumping-off point and built something totally different. http://youtu.be/b53cvwJdpXA |

Emotional Rescue was HUGE and it's hard to believe it could have been HUGER! See below-
http://youtu.be/sAtzfUiXlYs The sessions for Emotional Rescue were very productive with many unreleased songs. They started in Nassau and continued in Paris with overdub and final mixing at Electric Lady Studios in NYC during Nov & Dec of 1979 and in April 1980. Jan 18 - Feb 12, 1979 at Compass Point Studios in Nassau .....She's So Cold .....All About You Jun 10 - Aug 25 & Sep 12 - Oct 19, 1979 at Pathe Marconi/EMI Studios in Paris .....Dance .....Summer Romance .....Send It To Me .....Let Me Go .....Indian Girl .....Where The Boys Go .....Down In The Hole .....Emotional Rescue Also recorded during the Emotional Rescue sessions were: .....Little T & A (released on Tattoo You) .....Hang Fire (released on Tattoo You) .....Worried About You (released on Tattoo You) .....If I Was A Dancer (Dance, Pt. 2) (released as a 12" single) .....Black Limousine (released on Tattoo You) .....No Use In Crying (released on Tattoo You) Tracks from these sessions that were never released included Gangster's Moll, I'll Let You Know, Linda Lu, Lonely At the Top, It Won't Be Long, Still In Love, Sweet Home Chicago, What's The Matter, You're So Beautiful (But You Gotta Die Someday), Break Away, and Sands Of Time. Emotional Rescue was originally released June 24, 1980, it went to #1 in both the UK & US. The album includes the single hits Emotional Rescue and She's So Cold. |

It was. Their Decca contract obligated them to deliver the master of one unreleased finished song in the event of them leaving the label - the idea being that Decca could release it as a single. Decca hadn't really counted on the fact that there was nothing to prevent the Stones from giving them a song which they couldn't possibly release. |

I have that album since the 70s and I love it, Dr. John is great and yes, the song is based on that one, also Humble Pie released a cover (very different and much longer) of a song on his first album "Gris Gris" (Gray-Gray) album "I Walk on Guilded Splinters" |

I have the impression that this great cover was not released as Humble Pie and Rod Stewart released officialy, Humble Pie first but probably they knew that Rod was about to release it. I love the 3 versions |

I can't understand why they left "I Can See It" off of Between The Buttons. BTB's is such a weird Stones record, and that song could have really stood out on it.
Does anyone know if the songs "Old Glory" or "Toss the Coin" have ever surfaced? |
