Title: Guns N' Roses (Non Stones topic)
Post by StonesFan1990 on Aug 24th, 2012 at 8:25am
Is anyone else here a big fan of Guns N' Roses?

In terms of favorite bands, mine is probably a five way tie with The Stones, Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith, and Alice Cooper (only 70s material). I think GN'R were the last GREAT Rock N' Roll band, at least Rock N' Roll in the tradition of the Stones, there hasn't been any bands as good since...and I do believe if the Axl/Slash partnership hadn't collapsed in '96 they would've become the Stones of a new age. They were probably, at least in the early '90s, the closest thing to the '70s era Stones, they had all the grit, fire, great songs and great solos. The Use Your Illusion albums are up there with Exile and Physical Graffiti in my book. As it is, I do support the "new' Guns N' Roses but I wish they'd do more......

I only enjoy their first album, which is incredible and one of my favorites. Illusions was a big waste of time and so is everything else they've done.  Huge drop off after Appetite in terms of quality.

Had tickets to see the Axl Rose show in Philly and he never showed up.

Come on there has to be at least a couple of songs you like on Illusions, like:
Coma
Pretty Tied Up
Civil War
Don't Damn Me
Right Next Door to Hell
You Ain't the First
Dust N' Bones
14 Years
Double Talkin' Jive
The Garden
Bad Apples

etc. The songs run the gamut of every subgenre of rock but there's a ton of Stonesy song on there.

I like them, but they are far from the last great rock band... I'm way into too much music, to have a small hoop like that... I jumps through a really big hoop, and have found much I consider great...

I only liked their first album, as far as the last real rock & roll band, yeah, I could go for that, I used to say the Clash, but they broke up before G & R did, it's not hard to figure that out because there's no Rock & Roll in today's crap.

You have discerning taste!  GnR is currently the hardest rocking band on the planet and they have been awesome live their entire career!  I've seen Hartford '93, Boston '02, Worcester '06, Montreal '10, Arnhem '10, Hartford '11, Worcester '11, NYC '12, Atlantic City '12, and now the Wife and I are doing Vegas for November 2nd and 3rd!
Atlantic City was insane---they came on at midnight, played straight to 3:15 AM, and we even got Axl to the VIP meet n'greet in the House of Blues Foundation Room at dawn!  He's so fucking cool!  Better than ever!!!

Both the band and their audience are MUCH to old to put up with that immature attitude...unless they are all a bunch of speed freaks...
I can only think of one entertainer who I might put up with this sort of thing...except he would have started on time at 9pm and played until 3:15am...
without even blinking, because he was into the moment...with his fans.

As for the original question...never a big fan...i did enjoy their MTV fodder...then when Axl started his act of being a lunatic...he stopped being interesting.
I do like Slash...enjoy all his interviews on Howard Stern...love that he caught his mom in bed with BOWIE!!!

Izzy was an excellent guitar  player...saw him in Amsterdam with the Ju Ju Hounds...very Keefish...

Spoken like someone who doesn't listen to or probably even like Rock N' Roll

It's not late when you know what time they are going on.  Sorry if it is past your bed-time.  Nobody was "too old" for that at any of the shows I was at, but then you weren't there.

If it is worth it, you find a way.

It's worth it.
If you think otherwise, it might be better to not negatively characterize what is obviously a fine schedule with many.

Cazart!

A friend of mine showed up ticketless for the Forum show like 5 minutes prior to the time I told him Axl usually goes on. He just walked right in, apparently the ticket takers were long gone. So I guess the schedule worked out for him.

Some of these songs were good when they came out but the last time I tried to listen it, a lot of sounded boring and dated, and not a very cohesive effort. I guess there is a reason they fell far short of Appetite in spite of their antics keeping them on MTV News for several years straight,.

LOL!  See...fan friendly....just not for fair-weather fans!
Rewarding for the hard-core (I'm one)...I grant you that it may not be so much if you are not...

:smilemick

...having met 3 of the band over the years I am hard-core

You are right...if the ticket says 8pm...I add an hour plus to the headliner...but midnight...I can't be bothered...for anyone...even The Stones...it is way past my sense of caring...not my bedtime...I have a hard time believing that folks just started to roll into the venue at 11:30pm...

ALSO...You have to ask yourself...Did you REALLY have a good time...Was it REALLY Worth the time/money????
If the answes are  YES and YES...what does it matter what an idiot like me says...right???

Cazart...as if...
