At least they are getting smarter and being more non-committal and more generalized...
remember these classic lines?: ""We are doing doing shows this fall...around Thanksgiving We might play a few nights" "We will have some news in a week or so"" ""There will be an announcement in a few days"" At least now there is an APP, so...it might mean SOMETHING... anyone DL the app??? What does it say????? TEASE ME BABY!!! TEASE ME HARD!!! Is anyone buying the RS.com "Early Tweets and Teasers" package to get announcement before anyone else...a bargain at $50.00!!! |

Interesting, hope it isnt just new tshirts
Cool idea too, for those who don't have access to this its just an augmented reality app; when you open the app and aim the camera at the banner the eyes start to blink and after the third time a line stating "keep your eyes peeled..." |

I'm almost forbidding myself to show any interest in any new stuff they put out, I've been suckered into liking it on first listen since...UC, nearly 30 years ago and frankly what's the memorable stuff they've given us over that period of time? Well at least it was fun while it lasted. |

The u-view app mentioned in that teaser on their facebook site relates to Universal Music (thanks, Lefty, for pointing that out). So, I would imagine that the 'big news' theyre teasing their fanbase with is related to an upcoming release as opposed to an announcement about concert activity (I'll stick my neck out and say that - contrary to Mick's off the cuff comment to a journalist in London last month - I honestly don't think there will be any Stones concerts in 2012).
Universal will be releasing a multi-disc career-spanning compilation in the near future - supposely in November, but in time for the Christmas market at least. As I understand it (although this isnt confirmed) there will be a DVD included (I presume this will be a compilation of promo videos or something). I would expect SOME new and/or previously unreleased songs to be included. Dont know how many discs we're talking about here but as it would tie in with 50 Years, I'd assume it'll be three audio discs (ie, enough for 50 songs). Whether there'll be extra discs worth of unreleased material I havent a clue but it would be a bit of a waste if they didnt have a tiered pricing structure which would include the option of additional unreleased material for the 'non casual fans' who already own several compilations and need a bit of a carrot dangled in front of them to get excited about this. |

Here's what I was told : They are recording in Paris this week! Just for one week is the plan as they have a couple of new tracks to record. Don Was is out there along with Chuck & Darryl. Not sure what the purpose of these tracks are, suppose its to do with the 50th. |

Well, whilst I did send you that info privately on Monday, you know how it is. Some people are (understandably) concerned that if they leak what is supposed to be private info and it's traced back to them, they could get into a bit of trouble. Anyway, I notice that one poster on IORR (CocaineEyes) did mention that Ronnie has supposedly been blabbing again and that at a recent art exhibition he was telling people that a) the Stones would play small shows in November-December in London (which would tie in with Mick's quote from last month) and b) that they would then tour in 2013. Whilst we know Ronnie's track record of 'wishful thinking' we're talking about something thats 3 months away and you'd like to think by THIS stage he'd know what he was going to be doing between now and Christmas. What intrigues me further is that another poster - TeddyB - who I'd consider a really good source of info - has suggested that he'd heard much the same thing. So, this might have some validity. Guess we'll know soon enough. |

Probably not, but as he's there for something work-related and she's his personal manager, it's pretty relevant. They're easy targets for fans' derision I suppose, but you could argue that certain megastars need some kind of 'human buffer zone' between themselves and the media and fans so that they can get some work done and get on with some kind of semblance of a 'normal' life. Keith in Paris can be an odd arrangement especially considering the fact that over four decades since he first moved there, he's never really bothered to learn the language or integrate too much. Plus, he's not exactly normal. This is a man, after all, who once flew from New York to Paris, got someone to leave him from the airport to his home - and who then couldnt remember the address of his apartment and had to phone the Stones office in New York to ask a secretary to tell him where he lived. :forfucksake |

Worth mentioning too that the media attention surrounding a few shows (even small ones) around that time frame would be excellent promotion (and perfectly timed) for a compilation that's supposedly coming out around late November.
I'm already starting to imagine the clusterfuck that will be the mad scramble for what few tickets get allocated to those of us who arent a) family, b) employees, c) hangers on, d) celebrities, e) journalists f) ticket brokers or g) people who spend enough money on fan packages to feed an African village for the next decade. |

Cant be arsed doing any more work today as I'm going to the pub in half an hour so I took a little peek at the events lined up for various major theatres in London from mid-November until Christmas.
Obviously as its only August, there are still quite a few shows that'll be added between now and then but I thought I'd narrow the search down to the more likely theatres that tend to host concerts and which the Stones might potentially choose for a run of small shows. I excluded clubs as well as some theatres (such as the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican Centre etc) which tend to go for more 'sedate' types of gigs. Take into account the fact that for the Stones to play two nights, the venue needs to be available for three nights - and that if they were to play three shows, they need five free nights, four show require 7 nights etc. Maybe I've missed one or two but these would be the main ones : So : HMV Apollo (formerly Hammersmith Odeon) - not free for more than two nights 02 Academy (formerly Brixton Academy) - free from Nov 18-22, 24-27, December 4-6, 11-13, 16-20 02 Shepherds Bush Empire - free from Dec 2-4 Roundhouse - free from 16 November to 12 December and 15-26 December! Indigo2 (at the 02) - free from Nov 25-29, Dec 1-3, 9-13, 15-20 HMV Forum (formerly Town & Country) - free from Nov 26-29, Dec 1-3, 9-11, 16-18 Royal Albert Hall - free from 15-21 Nov, 27-29 Nov, Dec 2-4 and 11-13. So, basically Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush can both be crossed off. Royal Albert Hall I'd say is unlikely going by the band's past history there. HMV Forum, Indigo2, the Roundhouse and Brixton are maybe a bit out of the city centre (the Roundhouse in Camden would be the most central - they could even pop into Amy Winehouse's local pub down the street) but are all possible. The Stones have of course played the last two before. Keith has played the Forum in 1992. A wild card could be the Ambassador Theatre where Ronnie has played a few times recently and where the Boogie 4 Stu gig took place. However, its VERY small - maybe only a few hundred people, so I'd say its highly unlikely. Its obviously all speculative, but if I'd to absolute stick my neck out and pick which of those places would be the most likely for a run of Stones gigs I'd go for the Roundhouse or the Indigo2. |

Royal Albert Hall ?
Saw Eric there about 20 years ago - great acoustics ! I just think it would be considered too big for a "small" show. The O2 Indigo would work, especially if they rounded off a tour by playing the O2 arena next year. I went through this venue thing before travelling to London on 12th July :-[ . Brixton Academy and Hammersmith Apollo are much the same size as the RAH, though. We should all maybe take this with a pinch of salt, though, as it may be a load of bollocks. Imagining it is fun, though. The Roundhouse has become a pretty popular venue again since it reopened - I'm surprised its free for so many weeks later in the year. The Indigo2 is a terrific venue. Thats where we saw Prince, and the bar service is very fast! I personally think that if the Stones tour next year it wont be a long one, and so it'd generally be stadiums. Cant imagine them passing up the opportunity of playing the new Wembley Stadium, although strangely enough the new Olympic Stadium has become just as iconic as a building in it's own right in a short space of time. |

I like how they tried super hard to keep things hush, I expect a few surpises... We will see a compilation... the real question is, do they want to make another studio album, which, at this point, I have no problem saying, may be their last. I'm sure they realize this fact as well... there will always be compilations, archive live stuff and studio gems that have been unreleased... but one more full length, is kind of important, IMO!!!

I don't know if somebody already posted this.
Rolling Stones Recording in France 'Had fun in the Paris studio!' Mick Jagger tweets Charlie Watts, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones Samir Hussein/WireImage By Patrick Doyle August 27, 2012 1:15 PM ET After months of speculation whether the Rolling Stones would record this year to mark their 50th anniversary, the band spent time in a Paris recording studio last week. The band was photographed exiting an unnamed studio on August 21st. Two days, later, Jagger tweeted a photo of himself in a studio surrounded by some very Stonesy items: cases of Fender amps, Telecasters, Stratocasters and several harmonicas. "Had fun in the Paris studio this week!" he wrote. Last week, the Stones also posted a cryptic image of animal eyes on their Facebook page, instructing fans to download the free "uView" app and point their phones at the screen. The eyes came to life and an animal growled while "Start Me Up" played. It's at least the third time the band has gathered in recent months; they rehearsed in the New York area in late April. "We played everything, really," Keith Richards told Rolling Stone then. "We're just getting our chops together. It was like playing in the garage, a maintenance check, you know?" The last day of the rehearsals was filmed by director Brett Morgen for a documentary chronicling the band's history to appear on HBO this fall. "Someone would mention a song, and within the second run they had nailed it," Morgen says. "Having screened through 50 years of material over the last six months, I would rank it up there with anything I've ever heard from them. They were extremely tight." The band also gathered in London in July to celebrate their 50th anniversary with a photo exhibit. Before that meeting, Keith Richards told Rolling Stone the band would also use the time to discuss recording. "I'd love to get some tracks down and see what songs we've got. And that goes along with part of getting the band back together and getting things moving. So I'd love to cut some tracks, yeah." Asked if he saw himself writing one-on-one with Jagger again, Richards replied, "I have no doubt." If the band is recording new material, it would be their first new songs since 2005's A Bigger Bang. (They've since brushed up a few old songs for 2010's Exile on Main Street and 2011's Some Girls reissue compilations). Shows are on the horizon too. In July, Jagger surprised fans by mentioning in an interview with the London Evening Standard that the band would be playing live "in the autumn . . . You will definitely be seeing us all together soon. It's been great fun being back together and there are a lot of memories in here. I can't believe it's been 50 years. We've been hanging out together, seeing quite a bit of each other and we want to do some gigs Read more: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/rolling-stones-recording-in-france-20120827#ixzz24mNXCxBB |

Rolling Stones back in the studio in Paris
Band thought to be working on greatest hits album as 50th anniversary approaches Sean Michaels guardian.co.uk, Tuesday 28 August 2012 21.48 BST The Rolling Stones – Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts – pictured this year. Photograph: Reuters The Rolling Stones are recording in France, according to a tweet by Mick Jagger. "Had fun in the Paris studio this week!" Jagger wrote on Thursday. The accompanying photograph shows the singer holding a guitar in a studio crowded with instruments. Last week, the Stones were photographed leaving a French studio. An enterprising fan identified the location as Studio Guillaume Tell in Paris. According to Stones expert and archivist Nico Zentgraf, the session was produced with long-time collaborator Don Was, with Chuck Leavell on keyboards and Darryl Jones on bass. The relatively short studio time suggests the band are not recording an album – it is more likely they have laid down new songs for inclusion on a greatest hits set due this autumn. Although the group spent time together earlier this summer, they were reportedly practising old material, not recording new songs. "It was like playing in the garage, a maintenance check," Keith Richards explained to Rolling Stone. Besides a special logo and the announcement of a new documentary, the Rolling Stones have yet to unveil plans for their 50th anniversary. "Exciting news [is] coming soon," they wrote in a Facebook post this month. In July, Jagger told the Evening Standard that the Stones had plans to perform live "in the autumn". On Monday, the band revealed that the aforementioned documentary, Charlie is My Darling – Ireland 1965, will premiere at the New York film festival on 29 September. It incorporates footage from their first professionally shot live performance. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/aug/28/rolling-stones-recording-france-mick-jagger-tweet |

At this point I'll settle for 2-3 new tunes.....but they need to be upscale from the likes of Under The Radar etc.....If greed hadnt prompted the 40 Licks maybe "The Golden 50" might have sold a few copies if well thought out and produced......maybe include some initial track versions ala Reggae SMU to make the package tastier.

Well other than the excitement at the idea of getting a new album I don't think we're missing much based on their output since 1983, none of their albums has had any lasting power, except B2B possibly, so if they can come up with a couple of memorable tunes (unlike for 40 licks) then it's probably just as well. I for one am not interested in another ABB with crap like She Saw me Coming, Driving too Fast, Look what the Cat, etc...

I have the feeling the big news coming has nothing to do with a tour or newly recorded new material. What if this iPhone viewing thing is for a back catalog release or a new archival release? That week spent in a Paris studio could have been to approve the mixes and packaging for a box set and add any final flurishes to the recordings.

They recorded a couple of NEW songs. They were only there for a week, which isn't really long enough to do much else. There were vague rumours a while back about some worldwide multimedia event (maybe in 50 cities or something) to tie in with this greatest hits package thats coming out in late November. Maybe it'll involve a performance of some kind - I havent heard anything definitive as yet. I cant imagine they'd make this fuss over another archival release and their back catalogue has already been remastered and reissued just a couple of years ago. |

We are in the early stages of the bands 50th Anniversary celebration.
The singular fact that this event is occurring should be celebrated. You will come to appreciate this fact when it's all over. In the meantime, we need to act as if this has all occurred before. When one is ready to stray off of the reservation, think of what Charlie has to put up with & the composure he exhibits. In the meantime, sit back & regale in what we have, what others do not have. For you are posting & commenting on the best site on the internet devoted to the one common denominator. Simply put, The World's Greatest Rock & Roll Band. Act accordingly. Thank you for your cooperation & support. We now return you to regular programming. |

That's all well and good, but I want more than a best of with 4 or 5 new songs. 40 Licks had terrible editing on some songs, but the new material I really enjoyed. This 50th is a huge milestone. Celebrate with a new album, not an updated 40 Licks. I'm sure whatever they give us I'll love, but I am hungry to devour an entire album of new material. I want that excitement of running to the store and getting the album, running home, and dancing and singing the night away with it. There will be time enough for compilations years down the road.

Title: Re: "BIG NEWS COMING SOON" !!! Post by Gazza on Aug 29th, 2012 at 6:57pm
Absolutely. Unfortunately you and I care a lot more than they do.
Once they realised how much of a killing could be made on nostalgia when they toured behind a greatest hits album in 2002, that became the template for the future. High financial gain for minimal creative effort. So much for Mick always insisting they'd never end up as a nostalgia act like the Beach Boys (who, ironically, are now touring again having released their first album of new material in about 25 years!) They dont owe UMG any new material. However, they are a few years into a 5-year deal with them that's primarily focused on their back catalogue, so as has always been the case with any label they've had distributing their material since they left ABKCO, a compilation is inevitable at some point. |

ROLLING STONES REPORTEDLY SET TO PLAY FOUR SHOWS IN 2012 by: Chad Childers 1 hour ago Chris Jackson, Getty Images The Rolling Stones‘ Mick Jagger hinted earlier this year that “autumn” would be the next time he thought we’d see the band onstage. It now looks as though that prediction is pretty spot on, as Billboard reports that the band are in the process of lining up four performances later this year. A source tells the magazine that Sir Richard Branson and Australian promoter Paul Dainty are backing the four shows, which will take place this November. Two of the shows will take place at London’s O2 Arena, while the other two are heading across the pond to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Though the band are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, the talk about a tour has been a touchy one with each of the members at time chiming in with differing stories. Earlier this year the group stated that they wouldn’t go on tour, but then they started having a few rehearsals in the studio. By July, Keith Richards hinted that there might be some live shows coming. He explained, “We’ve got together and it feels so good. There’s things in the works. I think it’s definitely happening. But when? I can’t say yet.” Michael Cohl, who produced the band’s tours from 1989 through the present, told Billboard back in late June that he hadn’t received any info on the band’s upcoming tour plans. |

Assuming Mick still cant sing two nights in a row, they'll probably need three free nights to play two shows (they could still do it by dismantling the stage and allowing the venue to be used for something else on the off night but thats probably too much bother). In which case, unless they play early in the month, the NYC dates would be (IMO) more likely to be November 23rd and 25th. Its a Friday and a Sunday which helps. Its also around the time the greatest hits package comes out, so it would be a good promotional tie in with that release. There's no other combination available in the second half of November. Just guesswork, I hasten to add. Quite a roster for this venue that month. Dylan/Knopfler, The Who, Neil Young and now the Stones. And the shows dont have to be two days apart. They could play 22nd and 25th for example. And thats quite a few nights free at the 02 in London just prior to that. $25 million for 4 indoor shows in front of 80,000 people seems a serious wedge, even by Stones standards (last tour their average gross was $4 million per show - and most of those were stadiums). Unless their prices are through the roof (in which case they can stuff it), there would have to be some kind of TV rights or options on extra shows for any promoter to come up with that kind of dough. |

Barclays will be capable of holding 19,000 for concerts.
Its due to open next month. The 02 holds around 20,000 However, all-seated capacity for these venues would be a bit less as Stones shows will probably have that kind of arrangement. The capacity for the 2007 shows there was around 14-15,000 by the time they put in the b-stage as well. |

Maybe last weekend of November in London. First weekend in December in New York. If the greatest hits record is in the shops that week (which it should be according to sources) that would work perfectly. 'developing'. Doubt I'd risk crazy money on the hope that an ageing band who havent worked in 5 years MIGHT hit the ground running without a warm up gig, but I'm sure they'll sell out OK. |

Yeah that's going to be expensive...on the other hand it's an arena, a reasonable place to see a concert, I'd be more inclined to splurge some cash on that rather than on a concert ticket in a stadium. Wouldn't mind going to London for that too...There are going to be more than 4 concerts for sure.

Someone tell Stones, Inc. that I have a credit card ready for fan club memberships and highly priced tickets. |

Please! There will be a tour in 2013. This is just a taster. There's no way they're going to rehearse for weeks just for four or five concerts. The shows later this year will not be the last Rolling Stones concerts. I know many of us are a bit wary of potentially sky high prices but I do think someone will be underwriting a large amount of the money to put them together. I dont think its a coincidence that theyre playing a new Barclays-owned concert venue for the New York shows instead of Madison Square Garden. I'm also more confident in Richard Branson - who has a very good track record as a philanthropist - being more fan friendly as a promoter than Michael Cohl. The Aussies on here could maybe give us more of an insight into Paul Dainty. You will see the Stones in 2013. As will that rat bastid friend of ours from Joisey. |

Rollingstone.com have certainly got it right when they said this story really was hush-hush.
Rolling Stones Plan First Shows Since 2007 Band will play two shows at Brooklyn's Barclays Center before the end of the year Charlie Watts, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones. Samir Hussein/WireImage By Patrick Doyle August 30, 2012 4:05 PM ET It's shaping up to be a major fall for the Rolling Stones. In addition to recording new music in Paris last week, the band will play its first shows since 2007 later this year to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Rolling Stone has learned the band is planning two shows at Brooklyn's Barclays Center to happen before the end of the year. "This was accomplished in a Navy SEAL-like operation," a source familiar with the deal tells Rolling Stone. "No one I knew whispered a word of this before yesterday." Billboard reported yesterday about the Brooklyn shows and added the band will also play two shows at London's O2 Arena in November with Virgin founder Richard Branson and Australian promoter Paul Dainty promoting the gigs. A spokesperson for the Stones declined to say the London and New York shows were confirmed. The band gathered to record two new songs for an upcoming box set last week at Guillaume Tell Studios near Paris, where they also recorded new tracks for 2002's 40 Licks set a decade ago. "Had fun in the Paris studio this week!" Mick Jagger tweeted with a photo surrounded by Telecasters, Stratocasters and harmonicas. "I'd love to get some tracks down and see what songs we've got," Keith Richards told Rolling Stone before the recording sessions. "And that goes along with part of getting the band back together and getting things moving. So I'd love to cut some tracks, yeah." Asked if he saw himself writing one-on-one with Jagger again, Richards said, "I have no doubt." The Stones also rehearsed songs from their entire catalog in the New York area in April. "That was a great time," Richards said. "I thought I'd be quite rusty, after all we hadn't done it for a while, in five years or something. And amazing to hear it sounded as fresh as you could hope for. It was a great week." The final day of those rehearsals were filmed for Crossfire Hurricane, a film spanning the band's entire career to premiere November 15th, directed by Brett Morgen (The Kid Stays in the Picture). "Nobody has put the story together as a narrative," Morgen told Rolling Stone earlier this year. "We've been looking under every rock going through their archives. It will be music never heard before, and I've conducted 50-plus hours of interviews so far. By the time we're done, they will be the most extensive group interviews they've ever done." At the time, Richards told Rolling Stone, "He told me 80 percent of the footage has never been seen before, which amazes me. I didn't know there was that much around." By the way, our friend carlostones10 who has good contacts with Universal in Brazil states that the band will have a press conference in mid September to announce these shows.
In which case, next week's 'Ruby Tuesday' announcement might have more to do with the Universal release for late November. We'll see. |

I know I sound like a grumpy old man, but I get a 'meh' feeling about yet another documentary. A good unauthorized one could be interesting, but then again...same with the new stuff: if it is 50 licks with 45 rehashed classics and 5 new takes, why not go for an EP?
Anything other than a new record (a good one this time, please) and a tour that reaches further than 4 dates probably won't get me jumping. Then there's the Stones Inc. attitude that's popping up again: if the price of the Brussels vinyl edition is an omen of what is to come, this band is so far out of reach with their fan base it's funny. Oh well, I'll just keep spinning Exile... |

Dont think there was any formal 'big' announcement for tours prior to 1981, apart from '75 In 1981, Mick did a press conference at JFK Stadium. For the '82 and '90 Euro tours he did press conferences in London at La Beat Route (1982) and at The Tabernacle Club (1990). The latter one was broadcast on MTV Europe and he almost broke his neck when he tripped over a wire as he came onstage after being introduced! The 1995 European tour was announced via a press conference in Palm Beach, Florida in November 1994, just a couple of days after the Stones had played the Miami PPV show. I only recall the 1998 tour being done via a press release around November - I remember phoning the Stones publicists, telling them I was a journalist (I didnt even have the internet at the time) and getting them to fax me the tour dates at work. The 2003 Euro tour was done much the same way as I recall. For the 2006 tour, they did something similar to what they did for 1995 - the band were playing in Dallas in late November and did a press conference and interviews there. For the second ABB European tour in 2007, Mick took part in a webcast in March of that year. Keith was also meant to show up for it, but mysteriously failed to do so! For the 1999 No Security tour, I think (from memory) they just did a press release again but I seem to recall some kind of VH-1 announcement. The European dates that year had already been confirmed in June 1998 after the UK dates had been postponed for 12 months. They just gradually added a few more dates with minimal fanfare. |

_______________________________________ Your comment "...there's other people, and they are using them" is ringing very true. The Stones are a corporation (in a sense...sadly, sort of...) and they may take the very safest route to the big cash.. even if there's a tad more in other avenues that pose risk. However, don't count Cohl out. The Stones "are" risk takers in some situations and if Cohl can wave a bigger pay-check in front of their noses for next year they just may chance it. It wouldn't be the first time they had risked and won out. There is no smarter act in the history of music when it comes to touring as The Stones. I'm sure they will make the right choice. Still... you know Cohl is "concerned" as all get-out right now. It's like seeing a chic you thought you had forever in the bag finally out with another bloke...and having a great time... Will she indeed comeback this time... or is it over? To say Cohl is not mulling this concept over right now is unrealistic. Is Cohl used up by The Stones as so many have been in the past? I can't say Cohls out for a major ticket next year... then again ... guess what... as you noted... The Stones are proving Cohl is not the only promoter that has the potential to make them record numbers. I openly admit ...a few months ago I just couldn't see this happening with that kind of loot coming from most likely Cohl or at the least Live Nation. I even had argued against the fact that anyone could prove to be that profitable as either those two entities. I am still not saying Cohls out, still it's now it's not so "far fetched" at all in assuming he just may be on the outs. Hmmmm?... we shall see. Ian |

Correct.
I only mentioned it to highlight the fact that the comment Cohl did make was back in June. Before these shows were seriously considered. Some fans even seriously argued that the Stones COULDNT tour until the Cohl/Live Nation lawsuit was resolved ffs! (aside from the fact that the band actually issued a statement about two years ago stating that he was no longer employed as their promoter) I dont recall Branson having any history as a music promoter though. Which makes the reasoning behind using him a bit more intriguing than it normally would be. |

Something similar to what was used when Led Zeppelin did their reunion gig at the 02 five years ago. If true, this might explain why Richard Branson - who has no track record in concert promotion to speak of but is big on philanthopical and charitable endeavours - is involved in this venture with an established concert promoter in Paul Dainty. |

The first insight into the new songs recorded in Paris comes from Chuck Leavell...
THE ARENA Updated August 30, 2012, 10:49 p.m. ET A Stones Sideman Steps Out By JOHN JURGENSEN The email from Mick Jagger came in on July 24. He was putting Chuck Leavell on active duty with the Rolling Stones, as he has many times since the journeyman keyboard player first toured with the band in 1982. From his home near Macon, Ga., Mr. Leavell flew to Paris for a weeklong recording session that ended last Thursday, and contributed piano and organ parts for two new songs intended for a Stones 50th-anniversary release expected later this year. Mr. Leavell's calendar reflects his career as a musical wingman to the likes of the Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton and George Harrison. Before parachuting into Paris, he recorded in Nashville with blues harmonica heavy James Cotton. He then spent two weeks at John Mayer's house on the Yellowstone River in Montana, where the chart-topping singer and guitarist was breaking in a studio and recording new material while recovering from throat surgery. The Stones finished just in time for Mr. Leavell to make a concert—with his own band—in Chattanooga, Tenn. In addition to impeccable chops, musicians hired for long-haul sessions and tours must provide good company. During an interview in New York this summer, Mr. Leavell chuckled over road memories, like winging it on an out-of-tune piano in Italy during his freshman tour with the Stones; or when a stage tech attached two hair dryers to a plastic tube to warm the pianist's fingers during a frigid mid-'70s Allman Brothers show. Seated at a Steinway in Electric Lady Studios, where he played on Mr. Mayer's last album, "Born and Raised," Mr. Leavell improvised some boogie-woogie, stride and barrelhouse riffs. He explored these styles on his recent album "Back to the Woods," a homage to Otis Spann, Leroy Carr and other piano pioneers. He says, "When you say 'blues,' everybody thinks 'guitars.' " Mr. Leavell last joined the Stones for a rehearsal in New York in April, the first time the band had assembled in five years. He describes the songs they recorded in Paris as "up-tempo" Jagger/Richards rockers, including one on which Ronnie Wood played slide guitar. "Great hooks. Great energy. Bare bones," he says. With co-producer Don Was present, they dashed off the songs with just a few takes each. Mr. Leavell wouldn't confirm a recent report that the band will play concerts in London and Brooklyn in November. There are risks to playing sideman to the stars. When Mr. Mayer canceled a tour because of his throat problem, Mr. Leavell lost a job that would have lasted at least six months. It was also too late to book many of his own solo gigs for the summer. In part to buffer himself, he has built side careers, including a founding stake in a conservationist website, the Mother Nature Network, and a 2,500-acre tree farm he runs with his wife. When gigs fall through, he says, "I don't mind spending time on that tractor." A version of this article appeared August 31, 2012, on page D5 in the U.S. edition of The Wall Street Journal, with the headline: A Stones Sideman Steps Out. Copyright 2012 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. Thanks to leftshoeshuffle for the info....lets see if these dates are likely (back to back shows if true) and lets hope that the prices aren't!
Exclusive: Rolling Stones Dates In New York and London 08/30/12 6:31pm The Rolling Stones have picked their dates for four 50th anniversary shows this fall: November 26 and 27 in London at the O2 Arena and December 6 and 7 in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center. Tickets will be roughly $500 apiece to offset the $25 million the group is being paid by Sir Richard Branson. The shows follows an HBO documentary (which this column announced some months ago) plus a huge 50th anniversary photo book that collects all the best pictures of the group going back to 1962. The Stones are not alone celebrating their 50th anniversary this fall. Barbra Streisand will precede them into the Barclays Center in October. The Stones shows may be the beginning of a big worldwide farewell 50th anniversary tour. There may be an album of new material too. Branson, I am told, was convinced by Mick Jagger to get into the live promotion business with Australian Paul Dainty. Jagger rejected offers from Live Nation, AEGLive and Michael Cohl, the producer who just settled his “Spider Man” lawsuits on Broadway with Julie Tamor. http://www.showbiz411.com/2012/08/30/exclusive-rolling-stones-dates-in-new-york-and-london |

Worth repeating Erikjjf's detective work from the other day which indicated that the 02 is available November 16-25,27 & 29 and that the only three nights available at the Barclays Center in early December are 6,8 and 13th, so these dates may be wrong. Hopefully the ticket prices speculation is as well.....however this journo apparently broke the SuperHeavy story - so he has a bit of a track record for news stories that would freak Stones fans out!
Rob Zombie & Marilyn Manson are playing the 02 on November 26th The Brooklyn Nets have a home game at the Barclays Center on December 7th. Combinations of November 25/27 for London and December 6/8 for New York WOULD work, though. |

Interesting, so apparently Mick can sing two nights in a row...that's the good news, the price ? Unless they announce these are their last concerts (and I doubt they'd ever do that) it might be a hard sell.
Strange he should announce a new album might be in the works though? That puts an unfavorable light on his story, no ? |

You know, I never even noticed that. So, he's wrong on those concert dates. He's also wrong on the new album. I'd guess he's probably wrong about a 'big' tour. I hope to fuck he's also wrong on those prices. $500 isnt unbelievable for shows in New York considering their top price was $450 six years ago, but the top price for UK tickets in 2007 was £150 which was considered really excessive for here and way above what anyone else was charging. This, if true, would mean the prices this time would be more than DOUBLE that. They'd deserve to be sent to the Tower of London if they charged that for a show in the UK. |

Dont know the source so cant comment on the reliability of it, but Stonesdoug mentions that the expected ticket price range for the NYC shows should be from around $200-500.
That would be pretty much in line with their last tour of the US six years ago. |

There's no difference in disassembling an arena stage in a few hours for another event (sporting or musical) the next day for the Stones than there is for anyone else. These venues do this kind of thing all year round. The basic end stage is already there anyway at both venues. A b-stage (if there is one - hopefully not as its been done to death and probably wouldnt be needed for just four concerts) would require a bit more work in terms of being set up and dismantled, although hardly a big deal. |

Unfortunately, the Stones arent exactly going to help matters, if the rumours of sky-high prices are to believed. If thats the case, to inflict that demand on their fanbase in the middle of a worldwide recession really would be the final gesture of utter contempt. If anything, that would make the decision to pass on it all the easier for me, personally. 'Being there' is one thing - paying a week's salary to go to hear a band who havent played in five years and whose performance levels may be questionable at best is another matter entirely. |

That's another question no one seems to be addressing. They haven't played as a Band in five years and, as far as we know, have only been together for possibly two weeks. Haven't they typically rehearsed for a much longer period for past tours??? |

Title: Re: "BIG NEWS COMING SOON" !!! - updated 30/8/12 Post by Gazza on Sep 2nd, 2012 at 8:53am
Correct, Paula.
Five to six weeks is the norm after a lengthy touring break of a few years. They maybe dont need to work up as many songs as usual for just four shows - but the fact that neither Mick or Keith have played more than about half an hour of live music in the last five years is something that concerns me. The bottom line is that if youre asking an audience to pay a LOT of money even to look at a video screen let alone get close then you absolutely HAVE to deliver. Every time. There's no room for off nights or taking a few nights to get it right. And asking that of the Stones at this stage in the game is a lot. Paying that kind of dough in the hope that they hit the ground running simply isn't an option - for me, anyway. IMO, they really NEED to play a warm up gig or two. Cheap ones, at that! |

I've spent hundreds to see the Stones before, but not from nosebleed seats. Only way I'd consider spending that kind of money would be for theatre or small arena venues, with a guarantee of setlists with minimal warhorses. Small chance of that ever happening. I'm slowly realizing that my FOS, Keith-side view in Boise was my last time seeing the Stones. |

CHUCK LEAVELL TALKS ABOUT NEW ROLLING STONES SONGS
by: Dave Lifton Yesterday Annette Brown, Getty Images Veteran keyboardist Chuck Leavell, who has worked with such big names as the Allman Brothers Band, Eric Clapton and John Mayer, recently spent a week in Paris with old friends. That might not seem like news until you realize that he wasn’t hanging out at the Eiffel Tower, but in a recording studio, and the old friends were the Rolling Stones. Leavell, who has worked with the Stones since 1982, told the Wall Street Journal that songs he worked on were “uptempo” rockers in the classic Mick Jagger / Keith Richards mode, and that Ron Wood played slide guitar on one of them. “Great hooks. Great energy. Bare bones,” he said, noting that the band only needed a few takes of each. However, he did not disclose the name of any of the songs, nor would he confirm rumors that the Stones will play four concerts in the fall. That makes sense, given how famously secretive the group is with regard to new projects. But he did say that they also met in New York in April to rehearse, although that’s pretty much been common knowledge. When not recording or on the road with rock royalty, Leavell runs a tree farm with his wife and is involved with the Mother Nature Network, a website dedicated to environmental causes. http://ultimateclassicrock.com/chuck-leavell-talks-about-new-rolling-stones-songs/ |

My brain says "Fuck it. I cannot do it right now and I'm just going to have to wait until 2013 and hope for more shows.
That's my brain. My heart is another story. It says "PLEASE LET ONE SHOW BE ON A SATURDAY. IF IT'S A SATURDAY I SHOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. BUT THAT DEPENDS ON GETTING A TICKET SO I AM PLEADING WITH MY FRIENDS. IF ANY OF YOU CAN SCORE ME A TICKET I PROMISE I'LL PAY YOU BACK. I'M GOOD FOR IT; I JUST NEED A PAYMENT PLAN. IF THE FAITHFUL ARE GATHERED IN NYC TO SEE THE STONES AND I AM NOT THERE, MY HEART WILL BE BROKEN." That about sums it up for me. |

I'm not too worried about that, it's not 1969 anymore (they weren't even in tune at Hyde Park) it's easy enough to camouflage the bum notes these days, heck even Madonna or Britney can be made to sound good on stage. And it's not like the Stones have ever been super technical musicians except when Mick T. was around.

Hyde Park was free! Its an entirely different thing post 98-99 or so when they stopped asking 'normal' prices for tickets. If you drastically increase what you're expecting people to play, then it follows that you have to be more professional and competent than ever. It works both ways. |

Good point, but as someone was saying higher up in the thread, might have been you actually, the new "corporate" audience they currently cater to might not be the most knowledgeable when it comes to musical proficiency. As long as Mick sounds good they'll probably be happy.
And again, they can certainly do a lot to camouflage the bum notes...or the good ones. It's unrelated but I've been trying to pick up Mick's reportedly great rythm guitar on stage since the 1989 Atlantic show and have had the hardest of times doing it even though I play the guitar myself ;-) |

>Well you say "a" band.... as you already understand this is not just "a" band ...or a big band in question. Your reasoning the aspect of their inactivity as if they are simply another act on the scene. As you understand this is incredibly different...and even this time is different.
I don't care if it is or not. I have a life and other priorities that are more important than financing the Stones' coffers with money I dont have so that they can have money they'll never spend if they live until they're 500. >It is The Greatest living band that is still together, We could go round and round on this one as to the definition of 'band' and 'still together' based on the evidence. They havent been a functioning band for a long time and are effectively a corporation who choose to come together every few years and play music IF they're offered crazy money to do so. >very arguably the greatest band of all time unquestionably, but thats irrelevant. Every major act on the planet (and some minor ones) have fans who think theyre the 'greatest band of all time'. Its a statement that you cant prove or quantify. Some people thinking youre brilliant doesnt justify gouging your audience. > and almost certainly their very last major go around.. The 'this could be the last time' nonsense no longer tugs on my heartstrings, Ian. I've long ago reached the stage where whilst I'd LIKE to see a Rolling Stones show, I no longer feel the NEED to. The emotional blackmail surrounding it isnt balanced out by a) the evidence that the shows will be brilliant, b) something I havent seen them do many times before or c) worth the money. Nothing can get round the fact that it's a fucking obscenity to ask people to pay $500 (or whatever it is) to see two hours of music (in most cases, only easily viewed via a video screen). Not at any time and certainly not in a recession. Goodwill and respect should be mutual. To many people this is obviously one of the most important things in their lives. Thats fine and I respect that. It just isnt mine anymore. I've had a lot of great memories over the last 30 years at Stones shows but when I came home from the 02 shows in 2007 I didnt have the same feelings of post-tour emptiness that I had in the past. If it was to be the last time, I was comfortable with that. It had been fun, but I dont feel the need to see a lot of shows again. >in what is probably the most anticipated tour in the past 20 years (since their 1989 extravaganza). It's "The Rolling Stones" we're talking about... not Tom Petty (no discredit to Tom Petty ...he's a great act). Says who? I measure whether a tour is 'most anticipated' by my own taste. No one else's. From a musical perspective - which is the only one I care about - if anything it has all the potential to be an utter trainwreck. An ageing band who dont see each other for years, some of whom can barely stand each other, who barely play a note of music together or separately in a stidio or on a stage, and who have health issues. I dont get the 'most anticipated tour ever' vibe from Stones fans, other than the ones who dont care what the band sound like. If anything, there's more of a consensus that it could be one tour too far. >Their weaker shows are as good as most other's strongest... Are? They havent performed in five years. You cant make that statement with any degree of credibility until you've seen and heard what their shows are like in 2012. They could indeed be excellent. They could just as easily be very damaging to their legacy. >more importantly, that has not much to do with it... we are talking about the aspect of who they are, and what's going down mate ... especially at this late stage of their game. And therein lies the problem. There's a sense of going more to be in their 'presence' than anything else. Been there, done that. If I want to see a spectacle or go to a museum, I dont feel the need to pay a week's wages for the privilege. >Incidentally, do you think they are going to do major stays in cities as was mentioned or is this going to be the last major tour going from city to city. ..(not sure they can handle a large city to city tour this time ...I am seriously sort of doubting things in that regard...). I'd be amazed if they play more than about 50-60 shows in total. Could maybe be a combination of multi-night stands and large scale one nighters. Multi-night shows during a tour are a hard sell at $500 a ticket, though. They'd need to seriously restructure that. |

Totally unrelated, but does any here follow Formula 1 racing? There is a new race track in Texas that is hosting the first F1 race in the USA in many years. The event is nearly sold out - and the venue holds 120,000 people. Tickets are very, very expensive - the most I've ever seen for auto racing.

Back in September 1997, Bob Dylan released 'Time out of Mind' - his first album of new songs in seven years - on the same day that the Stones released 'Bridges to Babylon' The Stones - a band with three songwriters, dont forget - have released one album in the 15 years since. There is nothing on the horizon to suggest there'll be another one any time soon. Dylan's done four albums of original material (I'm avoiding the Christmas covers album) - all of them superb and his new one is maybe his best record in over three decades. I dont even need to begin to mention how productive other 60-somethings like Young and Springsteen have been in the last decade or so. Welcome to Nostalgiaville! |

Their new moniker..... The World's Greatest Joke of a Rock and Roll Band.
I really hope ALL tickets are $500, I'll be able to pick-up a $50 ticket from the scalpers who will take a bath on this "tour." I will not pay $51 to hear Blondie play 90% of Keith's guitar parts. For me, the ONLY thing that would get me to pay $51 or more, is have Taylor and Wyman rejoin the band. Other than that, they are a complete farce. I'd rather see Mick w/The Foo Fighters, than Mick with a has been guitarist who has no qualms about posing instead of playing. :wow |

Here's some breaking news! Last night at The Iridium Jazz CLub in NY at the Les Paul CD release paarty, I asked Blondie about the Stones tour. He said so far its a rumor, BUT the he is glad the rehearsals will be taking place in NJ! Yep, you heard it here first, the rehearsals are already planned but thats all he could say at this point. Not letting the cat totally out of the bag, but the word REHEARSAL was used and not studio time. So the rehearsals have already been set! Knowing this, they usually rehearse for about a month, right? So if they are rehearsing in Sept/Oct, the shows could begin in Nov/Dec! Now where would they rehearse, at a rented house in the middle of nowhere, at an emtry venue, or at someone they know's private compound?

Thanks for the info! I've also heard that they should start soon, although it wasn't NJ. However, you may well be right as you'd like to think Blondie would know! They usually rehearse 5-6 weeks, but thats for a tour when they work on 100 songs or so. For four shows, they realistically dont need to work on anywhere near as many songs. Inactivity is more of an issue, I'd imagine! The contracts for the shows are NOT yet signed (as far as I'm aware) - so the media reports about how much they're getting are maybe a bit premature - but they do have dates pencilled in, and obviously if they're going to rehearse, it goes without saying that they intend performing. I expect the London dates to be late November and the New York ones in early December, although I'm only speculating re: the New York dates as the venue seems to be pretty much unavailable in late November. One other thing. Whilst we know the Stones dont play two nights in a row anymore, it doesn't necessarily mean that the concerts at each venue are going to take place two days apart. The gap between them may very well be more than that. |

More from Chucky in an interview published yesterday in Atlanta Music Scene:
http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-music-scene/2012/09/13/chuck-leavell-chats-about-rolling-stones-tour-rumors-capricorn-show-and-nature/?cxntfid=blogs_atlanta_music_scene Relevant Stones-related parts : Q. You spent some time with the Rolling Stones recently… A. We had our first rehearsal in May. It was the first time we’d been in the same room together in five years. It was just fantastic. I cannot say enough about it. It was just the core band – six of us – and the exercise was basically, we haven’t done this in awhile so let’s see if we still remember. Mick [Jagger] had called me and said, listen, how about putting together a list of 20 or 30 songs that would be good for us to do. Q. For what reason, exactly? A. Well, you know, I think mainly to test the waters and see how everybody was, the health of everyone. And the answer is, everyone was healthy, happy, energetic. Q. So what is the status of a tour? A. They have not made any announcements, so there’s no official news to report. They [rumored Brooklyn dates] will remain rumors until the band confirms, but we recently had sessions in Paris and worked on two great songs. One, Keith [Richards] brought in called ‘One More Shot.” It’s really cool, great guitar riff. And Mick has one called ‘Doom and Gloom.’ The song sounds a lot different than the title. The theme is that he’s talking to a girl saying all I hear from you is doom and gloom – let’s go party, let’s go dance. It’s an up-tempo tune. They’ll be on the 50th anniversary set coming in November. Q. Do you think they’re thinking of doing a full tour or just a couple of major market shows? A. As far as what’s left of this year, I can’t see that it would be very much. But I do think the possibility exists that the band would want to tour again, so I think the answer is yes. Having spent time in rehearsal and the studio recently, there’s nothing but smiles and backslaps and hugs going down. It reminds you of how passionate we all are about doing this and how much you miss it when it’s gone. And 50 years? It’s such an incredible landmark, isn’t it? I’ve seen Keith talk about how long can the band stay together and basically his answer is that we’re in uncharted waters now. You’ve seen what the blues and jazz guys can do, but rock ‘n’ roll only came around in the ‘50s, so there is no precedent. We are the precedent! All we know is that as long as the band can write good songs and perform them well…and right now, is everyone’s health there? Absolutely. Q. Even Keith? There had been talk that he might not have the dexterity to do another full tour. A. Based on the recent experience I’ve seen, I would say Keith would have no problem [going on tour]. I’m waiting for the call. I’m on standby and will remain so. |

Does sound pretty good, but man...if they're so happy to be together again, WTF did they do nothing whatsoever over the past 5 years ?! I think we know the answer to that and it seems Chuck is now in the the Keith "best songs in X years" mode when he's interviewed after some sessions, like after Guillaume Tell in 2002 were nothing of interest came out apart from maybe "Don't Stop"...

The mere fact the Keith tune has a "great" riff is exciting. Far better than another low key who gives a shit ballad....

True, it was more in reference to the "happy","playing great",etc...sounds a bit "forced" when they've done jack for 5 years. In fairness it's not Chuck's fault but Mick and Keith's.

Here's the BIG NEWS we've been waiting for!
:forfucksake Rolling Stones deny 50th anniversary shows added: 22 Sep 2012 // by: Noise11 After much rumour as fact the Rolling Stones have made a statement to say that those stories of some 50th anniversary shows we keep hearing so much about are not true. In a tweet, the Stones announced, 'Dear fans, no Rolling Stones gigs have been confirmed or announced. Do not buy tickets from the SongKick website, or anywhere else'. The Rolling Stones have been rumoured to be playing two shows in New York and two shows in London before the end of this year to mark their 50th anniversary year. The story even spread to them doing one show at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia. The Rolling Stones will mark their 50th anniversary with the greatest hits album 'GRRR!' in November featuring two new tracks 'Gloom and Doom' and 'One More Shot', recorded in Paris in August 2012. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood are also confirmed to attend the premiere of the movie 'Crossfire Hurricane' later this month. http://www.music-news.com/shownews.asp?H=Rolling-Stones-deny-50th-anniversary-shows&nItemID=57269 |

Thats NOT what theyre referring to.. the first sentence in that post is totally incorrect. Songkick had listed two shows at London's 02 Arena for 23 and 30 March 2013 and there was a lot of questions being asked on the Stones facebook page (and some speculation on some fansites too) asking about this. Within a day or so, the Stones issued a statement to specifically deny the dates listed on Songkick and to advise fans not to buy tickets from unauthorised sites. Songkick even replied to the statement apologising for the erroneous listing . Its standard practice that they'll say 'no shows have been confirmed or announced' - it doesnt mean they wont be taking place. Its typical of tenth rate news sites to twist a statement into being something it isnt. No doubt, the ever reliable contact music will soon follow suit. For the record, the rehearsals will be starting soon. I dont know when the official announcement will be, but there WILL be shows in London and New York before the end of 2012. I'm not allowed to post the London dates yet but they will be in late November. I've now been given the same dates by two different contacts. The New York shows I know less information about but they will take place in December. |

Once you've downloaded the app to your smart phone, just travel to the nearest cultural landmark in a city near you, purchase a pair of 3D glasses at Burger King and then point your phone at the landmark, look thru the glasses and you'll see a giant cartoon ape holding a song listing. When is Australia considered? Melbourne Cricket Ground will be used for cricket up to about March. But we have Etihad stadium (with a roof) that would be available as mostly Aussie Rules footy is played there and that finished tomorrow (at the MCG). They played MCG in 95 to 2 x 55,000. Etihad has hosted heaps of big name concerts & could accomodate around 50,000. But i must say, i have never heard this rumour before. Like i said earlier, true or false this time, maybe having Dainty on board gives us a better than usual chance of getting them over here.

There is a tour in the planning stages for 2013, apparently.
I cant honestly see them going all the way to Oz in late 2012 for one show (especially not a stadium show), and playing two large scale shows in London and then doing the same again a month later makes no sense. I dont expect anything in 2012 other than the two 02 shows late November and a couple in New York in December. Not on a large scale anyway - a warm up theatre show or two might be more of a possibility. |

Darryl Jones confirmed TOUR 2013 "for sure" in an interview yesterday
Darryl Jones, Bernard Fowler and Tim Ries are in Buenos Aires, Argentina for a couple of shows, according to this article the tour is a go!!!! http://www.infonews.com/2012/09/27/espectaculos-40406-el-bajista-de-los-rolling-stones-confirma-seguramente-habra-una-gira-en-2013.php El bajista de los Rolling Stones confirma: "Seguramente habrá una gira en 2013" Por: Jonathan Heguier Infonews Argentina Lo afirmó Darryl Jones en diálogo exclusivo con INFOnews. |

Ready for one last one, PM me please if you have any tips to get tix!

The Rolling Stones are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. NBC Publishing gets in on the act with a new video-enhanced e-book. Jumping into the fray of Stones mania that began this summer when the group celebrated its golden anniversary, NBC Publishing (Nasdaq: CMCSA) on Tuesday released a video-enhanced e-book featuring exclusive archival interviews with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The e-book, “Mick and Keith: Never Stop,” features interviews produced by NBC’s “Today” show and conducted by music journalist and former “Today” music correspondent Rona Elliot. In the interviews -- filmed while the band was on break from the “Steel Wheels Tour” in the summer of 1989 -- Jagger and Richards reflect on the band’s history and its enduring legacy. The book also features images from the noted roc 'n’ roll photographers Henry Diltz, Bob Gruen and Ebet Roberts, along with an original cartoon by the New Yorker cartoonist Harry Bliss. The Grammy-winning producer Steve Jordan introduces the book with a video introduction. “This book gives fans a real insight to how Mick and Keith think about the same things. The thing in the book that really sums it all up is Rona asking the one question to the both of them and then them answering completely differently,” Jordan said in a statement. A promo reel for the book is available on YouTube. NBC Publishing was launched in January by NBCUniversal, which has been looking to mine its extensive archive of news and entertainment footage to take advantage of the growing enhanced e-book market. The rise of Apple’s (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPad and other tablet computers has sparked a demand for video-enhanced e-books, positioning television companies to get in on the ground floor of a new publishing frontier. In addition to footage from the “Today” show, NBC Publishing has said it will incorporate footage from NBC Nightly News, Dateline and Peacock Productions into 30 e-book titles this year, according to Publishers Weekly. Elliot, who worked on “Today” in the 1980s and 1990s, has been working on making her archival interviews available to music fans. For the Stones interviews, she spoke with Jagger at New York’s Waldorf Astoria and with Richards on the island of Antigua in the West Indies. Over the years, she has also interviewed such rock icons as Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Tina Turner, Marvin Gaye and Ray Charles. There is no word on whether those interviews will be incorporated into future e-books. |

Well, here's something different:
Rolling Stones rumored to be coming to Newark in December Published: Friday, October 05, 2012, 1:30 PM By Tris McCall/The Star-Ledger The Stones may roll into Newark this December. Is Newark getting Stoned this holiday season? The Rolling Stones, who have been rocking steady for decades, are expected to celebrate their 50th anniversary with a short touring circuit. That tour may be stopping at the Prudential Center. According to the Showbiz 411 website, the Stones are considering concerts at Prudential Center on Dec. 16 and 17. These would be the band's first area dates since the Beacon Theater shows on the Bigger Bang Tour in 2007. The Stones haven't played New Jersey since their Giants Stadium date in 2006. "I’m just awestruck that the Rolling Stones are still doing big shows, and it’s thrilling to me that they’re going to tour," E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt, a man who knows something about rock longevity, told The Star-Ledger. "I can’t imagine the world without them, and as long as they’re around, we still feel like the new guys." Appearing at the opening celebration for an exhibition spotlighting 50 years of Rolling Stones photography in London, in July, Mick Jagger said: "You will definitely be seeing us all together soon. It’s been great fun being back together and there are a lot of memories in here. I can’t believe it’s been 50 years. We’ve been hanging out together, seeing quite a bit of each other and we want to do some gigs." The Prudential Center declined to comment about the Rolling Stones concerts. Robert Sommer of Rock Entertainment Management said that the potential Stones dates were speculation at this point. So nothing is confirmed; fans are advised to keep fingers crossed. The Stones haven’t yet rolled out their itinerary for the proposed tour, which is rumored to be a short one: a few dates in London and a few in the New York area. But no matter the length, the 50th anniversary circuit is likely to be a testament to the enduring legacy of one of the foremost rock bands in history."I honestly don’t know much more than the man on the street with this one," said Bill German, who formerly published the band’s official newsletter, Beggars Banquet. "I get the sense that the tour will happen, but that there are some kinks to iron out first." The Rolling Stones formed in London in 1962, and released "A Bigger Bang," the band's 22nd album, in 2005. In between, the Stones have cut a series of landmark albums and evergreen singles, including "Paint it Black," "Gimme Shelter," "Let's Spend the Night Together," "Start Me Up," and the immortal "Satisfaction." Two original Stones are no longer with the group. Brian Jones, the '60s fashion icon and near-mystical figure who played the parts "you can't hear, but you know they're there," died in 1969, one of the first casualties of the hard-living rock and roll lifestyle. Original bassist Bill Wyman, whose steady, funky, confident throb on "You Can't Always Get What You Want" made its wisdom feel unimpeachable, left the group in 1993. But the core writing partnership of singer Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards remains intact, and the dignified Charlie Watts is still holding down the backbeat. Ronnie Wood, the former member of the Faces who replaced Mick Taylor in the group in the mid-'70s, continues as the second guitarist. On August 29, Billboard reported that the Stones are considering November stops at the O2 arena in London and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Showbiz 411 suggested the Barclays dates would be Dec. 6 and 7. http://www.nj.com/entertainment/music/index.ssf/2012/10/rolling_stones_rumored_to_be_c.html |

Don't see anything particularly new here, but nonetheless:
October 8, 2012 11:38 Rolling Stones' Keith Richards: 'We've booked shows in London and New York' Guitarist lets future gig plans slip Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards has revealed that the band have been booked to play live shows in London and New York. The legendary rockers had long been rumoured to be playing live again this year to celebrate their 50th anniversary, with frontman Mick Jagger claiming in July that they were planning on sharing a stage together this autumn. Despite speculation, the band turned down the chance to play the Olympics opening ceremony and denied reports they would play two shows at London's O2 Arena this November. But in an interview with Q magazine, Richards let slip that they had booked a run of shows in both the UK and the US – although he didn't reveal when the dates would take place. He said: We've got some shows in London, I believe, and in New York, but I really can't talk about any of that at the moment. They've put the gag on me on this. You can hint! Richards also said the band's rehearsals were going from strength to strength, adding: "Everybody relies upon their instincts, especially once you start working regularly together again. Because it pulls all the bits and pieces together, which when you're not working and playing with the guys, dissipates, obviously; you're not having that immediate contact. "But kind of two days of hanging around with the guys again, a certain demon energy takes over and you wonder where it's coming from!" The Rolling Stones will release a brand new Greatest Hits compilation in November titled 'GRRR!’. The collection, which is being released to coincide with the band's 50th anniversary, will feature two brand new songs, 'Gloom And Doom' and 'One Last Shot', which were recorded in Paris last month. This is the first new material the band have recorded since their 2005 album 'A Bigger Bang'. http://www.nme.com/news/the-rolling-stones/66517#2 |

Maybe not BIG news, but news nonetheless:
Jo Wood: Why should middle-aged women have to wear bras? Jo Wood, the former wife of the Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, says mature women should not be criticised for ditching their bras. Jo Wood, who was the subject of tabloid scrutiny last week after she wore a translucent top to a London party, has spoken out about why middle-aged women should not be criticised for ditching their bras. “We should be allowed to go without,” declares the former wife of Ronnie Wood, the Rolling Stones guitarist. “I mean, they’re only breasts. It’s no big deal. We need to calm down about it.” Wood, 57, points out that a younger woman also attended the event, the 33rd birthday party of Ben Caring, at Annabel’s nightclub, without her underwear. “Another girl did it, who’s in her twenties, so, what the hell?” The former model, who now runs an organic beauty products firm, says she was unaware of the effect that the light would have on her outfit. “I didn’t know you could see through that,” she said at the Inspiration Awards for women, at Cadogan Hall, in Chelsea. “I had no idea until I saw the photos. I went, 'How did that happen?’ My sons were probably more embarrassed than me.” Read more: http://www.independent.ie/lifestyle/independent-woman/fashion/jo-wood-why-should-middleaged-women-have-to-wear-bras-3252687.html#ixzz28iQjs5JK |

Have heard no concrete developments re: the upcoming shows but Keith's quote confirming they'll take place should be good enough for everyone. I'll repeat again that I do not expect the Stones to play Australia/Japan in 2012 as has been speculated here. I think the only shows this year will be the 2 in London in late November, the 2 in NYC/NJ in December and maybe a small warm up show or two in the next few weeks in Paris and/or London. If those take place, I don't expect them to be 'public' gigs. |

The Rolling Stones' look set to play two shows in London in November, according to the band's long-time saxophonist.
Earlier this week, (October 8) guitarist Keith Richards revealed that the band have been booked to play live shows in London and New York, although he didn't reveal when the dates would take place. Now the band's sax player Bobby Keys has said that the shows will take place in November, as previously denied by the band. "[The Rolling Stones are] gonna do some more concerts, starting in November with two in England and then a couple here in the States, then there's a few added concerts after that," Keys told Billboard. "Keith told me a couple months ago there was something in the wind and just be ready to go. I'm waiting for them to send me the plane ticket and the information, and then I'll go," he said. Music industry website Record Of The Day reports that it is rumoured that the dates will be 25 and 29 November, but this has not been confirmed. When asked if the shows will mark the last live performances from the band, Keys added: "The reality is this train is going to pull into the last station pretty soon - I don't know how soon. I've been saying this since 1980!" he said. "But I feel like it's kind of winding down. This may be sort of the 'Sayonara, see you later, had a good time, keep in touch.' I don't know that for sure. I haven't officially been told anything...I just take my cue primarily from what Keith says, so we'll have to see." The legendary rockers had long been rumoured to be playing live again this year to celebrate their 50th anniversary, with frontman Mick Jagger claiming in July that they were planning on sharing a stage together this autumn. The Rolling Stones will release a brand new Greatest Hits compilation in November titled 'GRRR!’. Bobby really doesn't seem to know much...like Keith! Can't help but remember what Bill German wrote in his book where he says that Jagger completely ignored Bobby on the 1989 tour and all these stories about the Mick and the Keith camp.
If the Paris concert doesn't happen, or tickets are impossible to get, I'm definitely on the last train to the Big Smoke (yes I had to look it up !). Any "noise" on where they are rehearsing (apparently without Bobby) ? Mick's mansion most likely ? |

Title: Re: "BIG NEWS COMING SOON" !!! - updated 30/8/12 Post by Gazza on Oct 10th, 2012 at 4:43am
heard Paris, but not 100% sure.
Its not really Bobby's job to know anything other than the fact he's being hired - and last I heard even the back up musicians for these shows (apart from Chuck, Darryl and Bobby) werent exactly a sure bet. Those London dates are almost certainly correct as theyre the same dates that have been whispered for a few weeks now - there does seem to be more confusion over where and when they'll play the two US shows, but I'd expect that to be confirmed very soon. With the movie premiere next week, surely they'll all be confirmed around then? Hopefully. |

I think its quite likely that somethingwill be filmed.
These arent tour shows as such, but 'special event' type gigs to mark the band's 50th anniversary, so I'd expect special guests etc. What gives it added spice is the fact that Mick Taylor has a London gig scheduled for 30th November - 24 hours after the date that the Stones are likely to play their second 02 show. |

The Glast Time for The Rolling Stones
Band set to headline Glastonbury Headline act ... The Rolling Stones may headline Glastonbury next year By GORDON SMART, Showbiz Editor Published: 10 hrs ago FOR MICHAEL EAVIS, 13 may just be his lucky number. The Glastonbury boss is closer than ever to locking down the the ROLLING STONES to headline the 2013 edition of his festival. Yesterday MICK JAGGER, RONNIE WOOD, KEITH RICHARDS and CHARLIE WATTS released their best track in years, Doom And Gloom, and now it looks likely they could play it on the Pyramid Stage next June alongside some of their classics. It would be the first time frontman Mick has ever pulled his famous dance moves at Worthy Farm and would be an amazing way to cap a 50-year career. A source said: “The band are gearing up for a load of live dates but tend to leave big decisions like this until the last minute. “Michael Eavis is desperate to get the band confirmed and has made initial contact with their people. “It would be a massive coup to get the band playing Glasto on what could be their last round of live dates. “Getting a decision from the whole band can be tough and at the moment they are without an agent for live shows, which is not helping the situation. “But there is a good chance 2013 will finally be the year they make it.” Those afraid of the Glasto mud can rest easy, though. On Monday the Stones will confirm a string of shows at the 02 Arena in London and in New York. Back at Glastonbury, it’s not just older punters who Michael and daughter EMILY are trying to appeal to. Another name in line for a Pyramid headline slot is MUMFORD & SONS. In 2011 the London lads played second from top on the Other Stage but in the last few weeks they’ve had a No1 on both sides of the Atlantic with album Babel. And they know their way round a farm better than Keef and Mick. Cadogan Hall. 900 seater.
Not familiar with it myself, but it's in Chelsea. Close enough to Mick's pad in Cheyne Walk for him to call round after the gig for tea and biscuits before bedtime |

It doesnt say it'd be their last concert - but likely to be their 'last round' of concerts Its been all of a couple of months since the last tabloid speculation of a Glastonbury gig - the band denied it then. Personally, I think its quite likely they'll do it this time. And if they do - then the bad news is that the tickets for the 2013 festival sold out in a couple of minutes last week. As far as I'm aware they DO release some more tickets in the new year after the line ups have been confirmed, but the vast majority of what will be available are always gone before a single act is confirmed. |

I'd be surprised if they play one then though. There are whispers of one or two small warm up gigs however, which if they take place are likely to be in Paris and/or London - but which are most likely to be for insiders, family & friends etc. |

Since Bobby Keys hinted at other shows afterwards wonder if we will continue to see "take it as it comes" kinda small series of additional shows?
Like Los Angeles/Tokyo Chicago/Toronto Holland/Spain etc? Or maybe 2013 is the year they start accepting all the long rumored offers from various festivals worldwide? |

It's also a way for the Stones to get $3-5 million a gig without the pressure of having to sell $100-450 tickets for a stadium or hauling around a few hundred tons of steel and employing and transporting 200 people. Coachella, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands and a whole slew of European festivals would pony it up easy. The Wednesday in between the Coachellas they could play Mexico City or something like Radiohead did last year. I am definitely not endorsing this idea but if I were in charge of putting together a series of dates I would seriously consider this option. Funny thing is the same kids wearing tongue shirts all over but wouldn't pay for a Stones show would love the idea of seeing them at one of these festivals. |

Title: Re: "BIG NEWS COMING SOON" !!! - updated 30/8/12 Post by Gazza on Oct 13th, 2012 at 2:57pm
Ticket price range for the 02 shows expected to be from £105 to £450, according to Erik_Snow. £450 was the exact figure I'd heard a while back too.
If true, whilst its still pretty horrendous, £105 for the low end prices is actually not quite as bad as I feared it would be. Of course, a lot depends on how many tickets in that range we're talking about (2,000? 12,000?) and its not clear whether there will be other prices in between that and the highest ones. I honestly cant imagine many people being sucked in to pay £450 for a ticket for a concert in the UK. |
|
Title: Re: "BIG NEWS COMING SOON" !!! - updated 30/8/12 Post by Bitch on Oct 13th, 2012 at 4:52pm
450 GBP = $723
150 GBP = $241 The conversion rate is unfavorable for US people going to the UK, but the other way around it's good! So all the UK fans can pay 155 GBP for a $250 US ticket! Its good for some people but for sure I wont be going to London this time round. |

Next up:
Back to rehearsals next week and then....a warm up gig in a club in Paris - seemingly next Thursday (25th) Note - a club (ie, a few hundred capacity). Not a theatre like the Olympia, Grand Rex etc. Probably mostly family and friends but apparently some tickets will go on sale on the day - and should be pretty cheap as is the norm with these warm up gigs I don't know what club the gig is scheduled to take place in - its very hush hush -but I would imagine that, as has happened in the past, they'll have a few 'alternatives' booked and then announce which venue it is the morning of the gig or the day before. I would expect its a stripped down band as theres been no reports of the horn section or backing singers being at the rehearsals so far and, indeed, Bobby Keys is touring with his own band in the US at present. |

I dont know about fully stripped down as much as that but I did hear a while back there may be some changes and that Blondie (amongst others) may not 'make the cut'. Time will tell, I suppose. Maybe its just for these particular shows as they're likely to be quite different to regular tour shows, with special guests etc |

Hard to imagine not having at least Bernard there...Not sure why Mick would want to break from the setup he launched for his 1988 tours, maybe he's trying to save a buck ! More likely than him wanting to go back to basics for sure.
Fact is no backup musicians other their musiscal director Chuck have been spotted at the rehearsals so far, maybe they'll be around for the second series starting this week apparently. |

Any warm up shows at this stage will probably only be about 70-80 minutes long, at best. Thats the norm.
No doubt they're capable of putting together a set of about 12-14 songs that doesnt include a Revue-style set up. |
