Title: Exile
Post by LanternHigh on Aug 6th, 2012 at 8:34am
In many interviews, Mick has always expressed his disappointment at the double-album Exile On Main St.
He has never liked it, and who knows why ..? It 'was the album's most celebrated by all the critics, the media, by fans. It 'was perhaps the album that had more visibility in live concerts. The songs
more sung ever..
and he never liked it .. why?
It's theirs masterpiece at all the times.  Many times I cant understodd Mick.. why he has to deny all this. It's a curiuos man.   :forfucksake Keith calls him, the freak control in his book.
I wasnt there, so I cant in no ways say something about.
But is the album I like at the most. Except Get Yer about Live albums.

Your thought?  :nomames

Mick is a true artist. Many artists are not happy with their work 100% of the time, which is why they keep at it.  Mick still has that hunger to be on stage and put out music even now as he pushes 70.

It didnt sell that well & no real smash hit singles. That was his stupid reasoning in one 80's interview.

He pretty much put that legend to rest while promoting the reissue. He said he was being willfully contrary.

I love it...........
I wonder about his taste these days After revisiting Let's Work. ;)
Just kidding Sir Mick. Your the best.
I can always like something or for that matter, dislike something even though the Artist loves or in this case does not something.
I have that one particular album as the top of the  5 I have on an Island.  :nomames

Of course.......... I also like ABB, but it's not in the 5! :aimama
Let the beatings begin!
I Love this place!

I think because Mick wasn't in control of it, everything was done at Keith's place, they were very stoned, high, what was the word Mick said? something about wings, oh yes, they were winging it, I guess it was one time Mick was sort of left out of the control of a album, Keith took over.

Yes Exile has a rather loose quality, which was intentional. Let it Loose, let it all come down! They pulled some all-nighters and all-weekenders with no sleep for days, according to Bobby Key's book. Then KEEF would start things up on a whim in the middle of the night, and just start playing and tell everyone KEEF's ready to go so lets play! And they all did, but MICK was staying someplace else with Bianca so he wasnt there for some of those middle of the night moments.

I dont think he specifically claims to not liking it. More a case that he thought the Stones made better albums that dont get the same adoration.

he's entitled to his opinion, even if he is, of course, wrong - because its probably the greatest album ever made by anyone.

That's a good one, But I believe you think there's some truth to it.
Kind of how Lennon hated or despised The Beatles at the end of their time.
Or am I over analyzing your statement. :nomames
Or do we believe this is the end and thinks will turn sour to rotten before it's all over.

Yes, true, he has the right on his opinions.. but why has not convinced yet that it was theirs best album ever made by them?
but should have known that they would never repeat the same chance to make another album better than another just as they did; he doesnt recognize that it is theirs masterpiece.. also Keith had  handle it.
I'm enough stubborn, but cant understood why he acted so.

I remember vividly myself being dissapointed when it came out....no smash single....yet over time it grew to be their greatest achievement studio wise anyway.....Mick may have preferred other albums but regardless of how he truly feels Exile belongs in any discussion as to greatest albums ever......

He's said other better things about Exile.  Early in the CD age, he said that Exile was best listened to on LP, as four separate suites, with some quiet time in between before getting up to flip the record.  I've always found that to be true.
