Title: Jack White could produce next Rolling Stones album

'The door is wide open,' says the Stones guitarist, who has previously recorded music with the former White Stripes man

The Rolling Stones' next album could be produced by Jack White. "[It's] always a possibility," Keith Richards told Rolling Stone magazine. "The door is wide open."

Next month, the Stones will convene in London to discuss plans for recording a new album and a possible 2013 tour. Although this year marks the group's 50th anniversary, the celebrations have been modest: the band spent just a week rehearsing together in April. "We hadn't done it for a while, five years or something," Richards said. "I thought I'd be quite rusty … but it sounded as fresh as you could hope for."

In studios in New York and Weehawken, New Jersey, the Stones played tunes such as Beast of Burden, Gimme Shelter and "everything, really", Richards said. "It was like playing in the garage, a maintenance check, you know?" But the band's next challenge is to work out whether they can write some new material. "We're going to talk about that in July," he explained. "I'd love to get some tracks down and see what songs we've got."

Asked about working with White, Richards seemed enthusiastic. The Stones played with the White Stripes in 2002, and the two guitarists recorded together in 2009. That music has still never been released. "I don't know if [Jack] ever considered that it was actually, like, master cuts," Richards said. "But at the same time if Jack wanted to [release them], I'd probably say, 'Yeah.'"

White has previously produced albums for Wanda Jackson and Loretta Lynn. And his label, Third Man, has released singles by artists including Beck, Insane Clown Posse and Laura Marling.

I'm so excited that I'm typing this with Joey's....

But really, I would enjoy it - would the Stones drop their egos, though, enough to let a young gun like White produce?

Jack White would be a great change of pace for them.  Don Was has been working with them long enough.  They seem to need to change producers every so often to give them a swift kick in the toucas.

I'd personally be very happy if he did, but the title of that article is pretty misleading, considering the article that follows it doesnt really suggest he's anymore likely to than anyone else OR that there'll even definitely BE a new Stones album.

Nothing is defenite. However I am sure they are planning on it... far too many comments about it from them and from the media for it not to be in the cards. Mick chastised Ronnie and made him publicly retract his comments when he sorta let the cat outta the bag on them wanting to get into the studio again soon to start some ideas on material. Believe me.. they are looking to record upcoming... in fact I would not be the least bit surprised if they actually did a bit of recording in London next month. I think this "band meeting" is basically a bit of a front at this point. I mean f%%K... they gotta have some strong idea what they wanna do by now... how long and how much and many times can they ponder it with each-other. I am sure they have a strong direction they are heading at the very least ...they have been saying they have been talking to see what shape they are in and getting indicators on want to do for six months now..

Im certain they have talked it over several times at this point. We only know of three specific meetings but there is the telephone and personal meetings between them I am sure they got on. How much can a group talk about it is my point. They got something up their sleeve at this point its safe to say. Sure not all of those meetings were to discuss future plans but I am sure they have an strong idea by now and with all the blurbs from them about recording and all through these meetings. I am sure that is on plans.

I think KEEF may want Jack White but MICK was with Don Was at the White House gig and I'm pretty sure he was also at the SNL taping, someone said they saw him in the front row. So MICK is probably tight with Was and KEEf probably wants something fresh with White. Thats my take on it, and I gotta side with KEEF on this one, the Stones do need to refresh, they are out of touch right now and need someone to renew the creativity.  Lets see how this plays out!

I don't think that Stones need a Rockabilly sound , Mick is in ,  his last performance with Foo Fighters and Arcade Fire tells a lot about the way he want to be produce.
It's only rock n roll with Dave grohl and Chris Shiflett is an awesome version , riffs and solos are perfects and for the first time inspired by the studio's version.

I rather think that lots of bands need to realize their "Let it Bleed" or their "Sticky Fingers" etc ...
