Title: 42 years ago - Dock Ellis (no Mormo content) Post by sirmoonie on Jun 12th, 2012 at 9:22pm
Forty two (42) years ago, Pittsburgh's blackest son, Dock Simon Ellis, pitched a no-hitter while under the influence of LSD. That's something to consider.

Title: Re: 42 years ago - Dock Ellis (no Mormo content) Post by FPM on Jun 13th, 2012 at 11:46am I can only remember bits and pieces of the game. I was psyched. I had a feeling of euphoria. I was zeroed in on the (catcher's) glove, but I didn't hit the glove too much. I remember hitting a couple of batters, and the bases were loaded two or three times. The ball was small sometimes, the ball was large sometimes, sometimes I saw the catcher, sometimes I didn't. Sometimes, I tried to stare the hitter down and throw while I was looking at him. I chewed my gum until it turned to powder. I started having a crazy idea in the fourth inning that Richard Nixon was the home plate umpire, and once I thought I was pitching a baseball to Jimi Hendrix, who to me was holding a guitar and swinging it over the plate. They say I had about three to four fielding chances. I remember diving out of the way of a ball I thought was a line drive. I jumped, but the ball wasn't hit hard and never reached me. -Dock Ellis |

It is. And what an inspiration to our nation's kids. Junior highers across America knowing if they work hard and get a good connect, they too might be able to throw a major league no-hitter while tripping. |

It's a verified sports legend. It's even weirder when you consider this: Dock Ellis=Ellis, Dock=Ellis, D. ("LSD" Get it?) :o Brainy |

Apples and oranges. Ellis was just as capable as anyone of throwing a perfect game. Instead, he chose to throw a no-hitter ON ACID. Road less traveled. Shades of Peary. Shades of Balboa. Shades of Laika.

"I started having a crazy idea in the fourth inning that Richard Nixon was the home plate umpire, and once I thought I was pitching a baseball to Jimi Hendrix, who to me was holding a guitar and swinging it over the plate."
Nope...sounds like a distinctly non-bunk type sitch. |

This has been debunked. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vUhSYLRw14 Listen to his account above: "I'm high as a Georgia pine." "I had got in the middle of the morning and took some more acid....." "The opposing team and my teammates knew I was high, but didn't know what I was high on." "It was easier to pitch with the LSD because I was used to medicating myself." See also his descriptions of wavering ball sizes. All of the above are Ellis' admissions against his own pecuniary and penal interests. The appropriate indicia of reliability is present. I will allow this in. Proceed. |

Inconclusive. The image you are referring to seems to be vertically displaced too far from where the spar running from the drive chain axle to where the headtube connects. Also, the image you are referring to would seem to terminate rearwardly above the seat, which is impossible. Both lead me to believe the image you are referring to is something associated with Romney's left pant leg. But you raise a valid point, I will research the issue further and report back. Perhaps its not a girl's bike. NOTE: all else is deemed admitted - draft dodger, Mormon, in France, riding a gender-unknown bike. |
