Mick, ever the diplomat, finally says something of substance on 'Life'...
and Keith admits he fucked up and went too far. It's all good. And you know what that means. |

It was a feud that threatened to end a 50-year friendship – and break up the world’s greatest rock band.
But last night Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards revealed they have kissed and made up – and are looking forward to getting back together for a Rolling Stones reunion tour. The fiery rockers finally settled their differences during a heart-to-heart meeting in New York. The row began after Keith made a series of attacks on Sir Mick, 68, in his tell-all 2010 autobiography, Life. It included a claim that the superstar singer had a “tiny todger”. But now the pair, who met at Dartford railway station in Kent as teenagers have agreed that life’s too short to let the rift continue. Sir Mick said last night: “Looking back at any career you are bound to recall both the highs and the lows. "In the 1980s, for instance, Keith and I were not communicating very well. “I got very involved with the business side of the Stones, mainly because I felt no one else was interested. " But it’s plain now from the book that Keith felt excluded, which is a pity. “Time, I reckon, to move on.’’ Keith, also 68, added: “Mick’s right. He and I have had conversations over the last year of a kind we have not had for an extremely long time and that has been incredibly important to me. “As far as the book goes, it was my story and it was very raw, as I meant it to be. “But I know that some parts of it, and some of the publicity, really offended Mick and I regret that. “What some of our detractors forget is that although we look like old codgers living an ocean apart we are still at bottom the boys on platform 3 at Dartford station.’’ Mick gently corrected him: “Er... actually, Keith, it was platform 1.’’ In his best-selling autobiography, Keith, accused Mick of being “unbearable” and claimed they had not even shared a dressing room for 20 years. He also triggered the “Todgergate” row – which led to Sir Elton John and Pete Townshend leaping to Sir Mick’s defence, insisting he had much to be proud of in the trouser department. The pair’s bury-the-hatchet session now virtually ensures a 50th anniversary tour. Original bass player Bill Wyman, who quit in 1992, was involved in secret jamming sessions in London last December. Keith revealed: “On the third day, Mick turned up, which was a real joy – I set it up really as a magnet, you know.” Sir Mick added: “It went very well. We played a lot of blues and out takes of Some Girls and things like that.” The duo are even talking about studio sessions, starting as early as next month. “I’ve got plenty in the locker here, but it’s not on tape,” said Keith. “We’ll just get the boys back together again then and maybe cut a side.” Both say they will be living in New York “for a while”. Keith added: “We’re planning to get things going... again.” But they insist the Stones’ “real” Golden Jubilee won’t be until 2013. Keith explained that drummer Charlie Watts, 70, didn’t join the band until 1963. He said: “We look upon 2012 as 50 years since the inception, but 50 years since the birth is actually next year.” The Stones’ last album Shine A Light was released in April 2008. Their last tour, A Bigger Bang was in 2005-2007. The band have collaborated with the Mirror to produce a photo-book, Rolling Stones: 50. They are also planning a documentary including previously unseen footage. Jumping Jack Flashpoints: Mick and Keef's rows Keith and Sir Mick have been arguing on and off since the 80s. Their spats mainly revolve around who is in control of the band. Describing the start of the latest row, which he dubbed “World War Three”, Keith said in 2010: “It was the assumption that he was bigger than the Stones which started to annoy, then enrage me.” He added: “Sometimes I miss my friend. I wonder, ‘Where did he go’?” In his book, Keith mocked Mick’s manhood, saying Marianne Faithfull “had no fun with his tiny todger”. Sir Mick angrily hit back, branding the book “bitchy” and “tedious”. |

I might be cynical but there is something odd in that MIRROR article. First of all, it sounds like it is reconstructed as to a dialogue based on the material released in ROLLING STONE (which, I believe, was based on seperated interviews, but I am not sure about that). Only oddity is that (romantic) Dartford Train Station detail. Or that's the only part not to be found in RS article.
The second puzzles Jagger's take on LIFE. Pretty hard to to grasp what he exactly tries to say. That he got the impression that Keith was exluded from the business side of The Rolling Stones during the 80's? And that's why, according to Mick's eys, Keith is so bitter. That's all? Damn cold busines man thinking one could say the least... Like "you know, nothing personal, just business"... But then again, Keith's "apology" is also kind of proud mannish - keeping up appearances - "well, sorry if I the truth hurt you, man..." if there is an actual dialog, those two realms do not meet each other - but perhaps that's as close they ever can get, taken the egos involved (i.e. no one losing faces). Jagger sees Keith bitter and writing bitchy stuff for losing the control of the financial control of the band - that was the beef of the 80's, including, say, Jagger's solo career. But was that all Keith was saying? Or at all? Keith, on the other hand, sounds sorry for sayng some (personal?) things that seemed to have hurt Mick. But does he agree with Jagger's account that is the business and nothing but business that it is all about? I have my doubts about that. Anyway, what personally struck me in reading LIFE was that of seeing the 80's as the end of the story - of LIFE , or of Mick and Keith, or of The Rolling Stones - and since then there was nothing to write about than to have this conflict with Jagger - running 8 miles with a "heavy" guitar against Jagger's 15 miles during a show, etc. (and the Jagger tales - little bitching here and there - preceeding the open conflict of the 80's open conflict seemed like written that in mind, leading there). LIFE gave me the impression that for Keith the whole band didn't matter any longer; it was just this ego fight. All the loyality to the band seemed to have fallen to a second place within this bigger scheme of things (egos). I was surprised how deep the gap between those two guys have been ever since. They never "reunited". Now, if the part that they have now finally have some deep conversations is true, maybe this "world war three" is finally over. Even though, as cynical as I am, I think there never was any "world war three" to be ended ('happily'), that's a rhetorical myth. To use same metaphors, more accurate would be that of a cold war , and I am not convinced yet that "it's all over now". But the function of LIFE seems to as kind of tactical move within that war. But it is great at least to see the parties talking to each other now. - Doxa |

same thing another take........
Richards and Jagger make up By WENN.COM Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. (QMI Agency File Photo) Keith Richards has paved the way for a Rolling Stones tour by patching up his differences with Sir Mick Jagger after poking fun at the frontman in his memoir. The guitarist made a number of unflattering references to Jagger in his tell-all 2010 autobiography Life, likening him to an annoying mynah bird and suggesting he has a small penis. The bickering rockers have now agreed to end their rift and they are looking forward to working together again. Jagger tells Rolling Stone magazine, "Looking back at any career you are bound to recall both the highs and the lows. "In the 1980s for instance Keith and I were not communicating very well. I got very involved with the business side of the Stones, mainly because I felt no one else was interested, but it's plain now from the book that Keith felt excluded, which is a pity. Time I reckon to move on." Richards adds, "Mick's right. He and I have had conversations over the last year of a kind we have not had for an extremely long time and that has been incredibly important to me. "As far as the book goes, it was my story and it was very raw, as I meant it to be, but I know that some parts of it and some of the publicity really offended Mick and I regret that." Both stars are preparing to head into the studio as early as next month in the hope of reuniting the iconic band and hitting the road again next year. Richards explains, "I've got plenty in the locker here, but it's not on tape. We'll just get the boys back together again then and maybe cut a side... We're planning to get things going... again." |

About time you posted here occasionally! Well, we all know the Cold War happened but WWIII never did...haha. And I always thought the Mick-Keith 'WWIII' took place 25 years ago! I've long held the view that having survived the 80s, that was enough to seal the band's future for all time and that they'd never formally 'break up'. The amount of work done together would just trickle down and would continue that way with the band only being formally dissolved when one of them dies. They're manacled together for eternity whether they like it or not. Its just too much hassle to get a formal divorce. |

Well, people are about having a funeral for you at IORR, so I decided to chase you here... it wasn't so hard, since there was so much so blood on the tracks.. ;D Anyway, you being more a romantic kind of guy tou prefer talk the Stones in terms of marriage, but I find the terms of wars and peace more apt. There is one particular political term to describe the post-80's Glimmer Twins relationship. It is from the cold war era, and used as a formal definition to describe the official relationship of Finland and Soviet Union (which was, to say the least, quite extraordinary in those days, between West and East). Unfortunately I don't know the exact translation to English (if there is one), but is goes approximately like "a peace-like co-existence" (rauhanomainen rinnakkaiselo). That is to say that there was not actual peace, but the parties just refrain of showing open aggressive (real) attitudes in order to keep the business going on, etc. The deal was also politically and economically good for both parties. There were lots of public occasions were the leaders were smiling, hugging each other, sharing drinks (especially vodka). Like Mick and Keith in SHINE A LIGHT the mic for "Faraway Eyes"... :P Okay, the political realist in me interptets the recent output of Mick and Keith stating that they now now formally "bury the hatchet", that is, skip the bad publicity caused by LIFE, in order to do something in together in near future (and they did it as minimally as they can). The pawn is now publicly cleaned for The Stones to do something again. So no matter how "genuine" or "fake" their feelings (or their re-discovered brotherhood) are, it doesn't pragmatically speaking matter anything at all. The aim is in Stones activities. Like always. So damn good news in this sense for us, the fans! :keithpunky - Doxa |

I really, really hope this is what postponed the 2013 tour, and it's not just s mokescreen to get us to look away from a health issue they are hiding from the public.
and if hopefully this is, this crap should've happened last year, but oh well!!! |

Makes sense that this is what the sticking point was all along. Keith had floated phrases like "very careful diplomacy" at the time these conversations apparently were occurring. It stands to reason that Keith was publicly trying to coax Mick into touring, while, privately, Mick was pushing back.
I still think that the health issue is real, though. Maybe they think it's manageable, which is why they're going to limit travel. A very smart and understandable choice, if so. |

No way will I be duped into believing that Keith's book comments or their differences in opinion kept them from touring this year... |

it's a smokescreen I think... either they are hiding plans to make something a surprise in this day and age of internet instant info or like I felt, there's a major concern with Keith and they are postponing til 2013, if they can... it's always been odd going, but this is really weird timing on the heels of the early tour plans for 2012 and all the pre-hype about 2012 being the big 50... is this a ruse to keep live plans secret or is it to hide ailments they don't want public? My gut just has such an uneasy feeling with all this. |

This whole bury the Hatchet thing sounds fishy to me. These guys are Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
If they really needed a "bury the hatchet thing" it would have been private don't you think. Did'nt one them, Mick I think, say before it was a marriage without the chance of a divorce? |

Poorly researched and sloppily written Daily Mail spin on things today - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2116257/Why-Mick-Jagger-forgive-Keith-Richards-personal-little-insult-biography.html - although one thing of note that it DOES mention is that it seems to back up in print (for the first time as far as I can tell) the rumour I mentioned a few months ago about a multi-disc compilation coming out in the next few months ('a greatest hits boxed set' as they put it)
