Post by StonesFan1990 on Feb 10th, 2012 at 12:08am
What are some  of your favorite covers of Stones' songs?
For me:

Jumpin' Jack Flash - Guns N' Roses (electric)
Jumpin' Jack Flash - Guns N' Roses (acoustic)
Sympathy for the Devil - Guns N' Roses

I always loved Montrose's version of Connection. Very creative and the first one I heard. For years I didin't even know it was a Stones song.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZ6PME5U1rI

"Honky Tonk Women" live by Humble Pie, shiveringly sung by Steve Marriott on the "Eat It" album.  A must-hear.

There are some alternate live versions up on YouTube, but the studio-sweetened one on "Eat It" is the keeper.

The Humble Pie "Eat It" album also features Clydie King and Vanetta Fields from Exile on Main St. on backup vocals:

It's an underrated record, and the several ballads show Ronnie Lane's influence on fellow Small Face Steve Marriott.

hard to tell which is the better cover, but the "Some Girls" version by TomL and Voodoo at Voodoo's studio is probably the worst AND the best LOL

Everyone knows that the Rolling Stones
are their own best cover band!!!

But, seriously...I saw these cats at The marquee in 86...only
knew one song of theirs...and they closed with this:

I was so excited to hear this at The Marquee all by chance!!

Great version

Here's my vote for the best Stones cover played in an American Legion hall...actually this is me and a bunch of my old friends throwing down "Midnight Rambler" in 2007. It's definitely my favorite Stones cover that I've played on.

Thanks! And yes, the drummer is a true joy to play with. But we had no soundman. Just a mic plugged into a little PA, which is why the vocals are buried. This was just a gig down the street from my house...the kind you can crawl home from if need be...my favorite kind...and this was on St. Patrick's Day, the day after I'd been to a Pogues show, so I may very well have crawled home from this one...

Most of the guys in this video are guys I grew up worshipping the Stones with. We aren't a real band, we just play together every couple years.  I like to say that when you squeeze us, Rolling Stones songs come out.

There is a banjo-picking bluegrass version of Wild Horses from an old Jerry Garcia band called "Old and In The Way", it's done country style and it's really cool. I have the CD if anyone wants me to email them the song. It's excellent especially if you are a Garcia fan, he's the banjo player on the song.

Speaking of covers, nobody mentioned any tribute bands that do all Stones, Blushing Brides from Montreal are very good, so are the Midnight Ramblers from Toronto.
