Title: The best gigs ever we had attend Post by LanternHigh on Jan 23rd, 2012 at 6:56am
I love the Stones, naturally; they was been my life soundtrack in every moments and moods.
They've always helped me in my down and up.. loving the early years till Miss You. Is a crime for me couldnt see them in those early days.. But beyond the Stones, the most amazing , the most impressive gig ever it was been the Boss, Bruce Springteen in Zurich, 1981. 3 hours and half of music. He was very very great. also I could see many shows during the years, he will remain on my mind for ever. About the Stones, the 1st time is unforgettable. But I like to remember more well them during Steel Wheel. and in 2003.. the last tour it didnt went alright for me. Just for the presence of Keith I will dont forget it. but Bruce has to be the heir of Bob Dylan.. :areyoufuckingserious Have you some memory about yours? :smilebrian |

" The Who..Moons last North American show in Toronto "
This makes young Joey jealous : " Thu, 21 October 1976: Toronto, ONT, Maple Leaf Gardens Setlist I Can't Explain Substitute My Wife Baba O'Riley Squeeze Box Behind Blue Eyes Dreaming From The Waist Magic Bus Amazing Journey Sparks The Acid Queen Fiddle About Pinball Wizard I'm Free Tommy's Holiday Camp We're Not Gonna Take It Summertime Blues My Generation Join Together My Generation Blues Who Are You Won't Get Fooled Again Fanreport Bill Purchase At the end of this show Pete Townsend threw his guitar up into the air, as he did the previous year in Toronto, but he missed the catch. He picked it up ,gave it a few strums, shook his head no, then proceeded to smash it up on stage. A fitting end for Kieth's last official show with the band. Zack in those days the Dead had a (for the times) a giant wall of speakers which they tuned up before I got there. I believe that soundcheck was done on the Friday before the main show Saturday. On Saturday the Dead opened round noon and played to close to 5 with 2 breaks. Then The Band played for about 2 hours or so...then Allman Brothers for 3 or so then a final big jam..... grateful_small.jpg (Attachment deleted) |

A few of my favorites along with my blurry snapshots.
The Who, 4 times, but never with Moon. I had tickets to see them in Memphis in '75 but ended up not going. Saw them in Philly & Pittsburgh '79, Shea Stadium '82, and Hershey right after the Ox died. Talking Heads, twice on the Fear of Music Tour, once on the Remain In Light Tour (above), and once on the Stop Making Sense Tour. I saw Elvis Costello and the Attractions 4 times or so. Best show - Tower Theater, on the Trust Tour. Saw the Clash 3 times. Best show: Tower Theater 1980. I'd have to put this show close to the top of the heap. |

1. Grateful Dead/Veneta, Oregon/August 27, 1972 (greatest Dead show ever)
2. The Who/Tacoma, WA/August 16, 1989/third row Pete side (full moon/lunar eclipse exactly at 8 pm showtime; 20th anniversary of Woodstock; the night Pete skewered his hand on the whammy bar) 3. Leonard Cohen/Portland, OR/December 8, 2010 (sublime) Brainy :weed |

Title: Re: The best gigs ever we had attend Post by Heart Of Stone on Jan 24th, 2012 at 7:54am
So many over the years since the early 70's, I even saved ticket stubs that I have posted on here, David Bowie at Maple Leaf Gardens '76 & '78, Alice Cooper (Original Band) just about every time they played Toronto, The Clash in a movie theater in '78 up close, James Gang (if anybody remembers them) early 70's.
Besides The Stones in '72, best concert New Years Eve '71 at Maple Leaf Gardens, up front Alice Cooper getting hung in the gallows just before New years eve, & then coming back in the New Year, it was the band, they were so tight as musicians, really really good, & theatrical at it's best. I've been to rock festivals in the early 70's, Beggar's Banquet, Strawberry Fields, & a few others, Toronto was a good place for great concerts. |

I have to say The Stones at The Beacon Theatre in NYC for the Shine A Light movie. That was the icing on the cake, a small lovely venue with Martin Scorsese perfecting the sound, lighting, stage, Bill Clinton was there and the audience was filled with VIP's. I partied with a cool group of Stones loving friends, met a cute guy that night, with the excitement building up to an all time high. Also that was the cheapest ticket I bought for the tour, it was under $70 for some crazy reason. I was so lucky to pull a ticket for that show, one of the best nights of my life! Oh hell yeah!

I was young. It was my 2nd concert I think, Def Leppard opening for Billy Squier. This would be Def Leppards first US appearance for their Pyromania album. Atlanta Georgia the Omni. Everyone got tickets because of Def Leppard. They were hot. My seats were almost behind the stage touching the rafters. DL came out and rocked my world. Then later Billy Squier appeared and fucking blew them off the stage. He was really good. I wanted to trade my Def Leppard shirt for a Billy Squier shirt after the show.

Reminds me of when I saw Sammy Hagar open for Dave Mason at Winterland many years ago. It was right after the Red album came out. He was red hot. Pardon the pun. He was in his home town,he comes out, brings the house down. Finishes his set. Walks off. The crowd is still going crazy, wanting more. Sammy comes back out, jumps on top of the piano, grabs a microphone and says "I'll jump up and down and do tricks for you.But I don't have any more songs to play".Then Dave Mason comes out with his, It's just you and me shit. |

Every headline gets blown off from time to time....in 1972 Stevie Wonder in Detroit was so freakin hot the Stones held back another extra 30 minutes or more to go on until crowd was ummm"focused"......

Without a doubt the best ever for me was my first. Ian dury and The Blockheads Buffalo State College gym March of 1978. 15 years old I'd never heard of them and was totally blown away. Front row on a gym floor with no seats. Rough rowdy crowd. Only tour of America they ever did. My buddies and I were there to see Lou Reed. Lou was kind of lame that night we later heard he was really sick. It didnt matter because Ian Dury and the boys were absolutely amazing. Forget music it was one of the greatest events of my entire life. I will see the three guys i went to that show with next month and I guarantee that night will come up and "new Boots and Panties" will be played.
Some other notable and maybe not obvious great shows were Teenage Head in the early 80's. Ween in early 2000's, V-Roys late 90's, Paul Westerberg first solo tour mid 90's, Kinks in very early 80's in a small old theater in Syracuse NY. that one was part of a live record they did. And more recent and much younger Cage The Elephant and The Black Keys. Lewiston Ny summer of 2011. Both were really good. The one thing all those shows had in common was they were all in less then 2000 seat venues. Well maybe two things in common now that I consider it.....I was high as fuck |

Best show ever - Bruce at Wembley Arena, River tour, 29th May 1981. My first time in London and the day before I turned 18.
Best Stones show ever - same venue. 29th August 2003, Licks tour. |
