Title: Ronnie Wood ~ I Feel Like Playing ~ discussion Post by Bitch on Jan 7th, 2012 at 8:25am
I just got I Feel Like Playing as a gift from one of my friends and I must say that I am enjoying it more than I expected! The songs stay in my head which is a good thing and it keeps calling me back to listen closer. So I was wondering if any of you people are into it and hopefully we can discuss it. I like every single song and Ronnie's voice has gotten raspier since his last CD, he sounds like Bob Dylan!
Why’d You Wanna Do A Thing Sweetness Lucky Man I Gotta Go Thing About You How Am I Gonna Catch You Spoonful I Don’t Think So 100% Fancy Pants Tell Me Something Forever OK song by song. starting with track 1: Why'd you Wanna do A Thing like that for? an old coyote howling at the moon Feeling feelings he don't understand Holly hunger you can turn into a tune Chase away the darkness if you can I say why wanna go and do a thing like that for? Just when everything was going so well I think you thought that that was all fit for Kicking me from heaven straight to hellWhy'd you have to go and do a thing like that for? Just when everything was going so well You hung me on the line and you wasted my time Kicking me from heaven straight to hell Guarantee is all I ever wanted Holly fire is what I need I take honesty for granted I get wounded and I bleed Why'd you have to go and do a thing like that for?Just when everything was going so wellWhy'd you have to go and do a thing like that for? Kicking me from heaven way to hell I say why have to go and do a thing like that for? Just when everything was going so wellI guess you thought that that was all I was fit for Kicking me from heaven straight to hell I hear an old coyote howling at the moonFeeling feelings he don't understand Holly hunger he can turn into a tune Chase away the darkness from the man I say why have to go and do a thing like that for? Just when everything was going so wellYou hung me on the line and you wasted my time Kicking me from heaven way to hell Its a funny phrase actually! My guess is that RONNIE is talking about Ekat when she called the cops on him when they were drunk in the alley and beat her up? That was the beginning o the end for them. |

Great album, was listening to it yesterday on my walk.
Tell Me Something is prolly my fave. I Gotta See too. "Here that old coyote howling at the moon." "Feeling feelings he don't understand..." Poetry in motion... Such and underrated album. If Cric Elapton did it, it's be allover the charts. |

Surprisingly strong effort from Woody considering the embarrassing trainwreck his life had spiralled into over the couple of years preceding it. I really didn't think he had it in him.
Wouldn't go as far as to call it 'great' (a very overused expression) but probably his best album since the underrated 'Gimme Some Neck'. |

He was finding himself, and w/ that album, I think he did. That's why Cric Elapton gave him that Freedom Feather. |

This thread got me thinking about Slide On This...
"Don't need a headache from a one night stand, I'd rather use my baby's right hand...Jo" Another great song and GREAT solo. |

Yeah somebody made me a copy of this when it came out. I was surprised at how good it was as well. Ronnie's not the greatest singer in the world. But I think he's effective on this. The songs are good overall and his playing is strong. Just heard Fancy Pants on my ITunes this morning.

I'm a massive fan of his solo stuff especially I've Got My Own Album To Do which I can listen to on repeat for ages. However, I thought this was just something put together quickly and without much soul. There are moments on this that I like but songs like Sweetness are unbearable- especially the lyrics. One of the big things missing is that on the last two solo albums, Charlie hasn't played on them. The earlier ones had Charlie on them and it just takes everything to a higher level.

OK well this brings us to the next song which is reggae style with a cool beat, but yeah, Ronnie's vocals are strained but Bernard sounds beautiful. This song has to be about Ekat, she is such a sweet young thing. Also there is a song by Barry White called Your Sweetness in My Weakness so this has been thought of before, sorta. I was in agony till I tasted you it's a love song and I love the guitars. Nice tune, I dig it.

For some time I have thought the Stones should let Ronnie do one of his songs per show. Cut Keith to one and have Ronnie work with Keith on one of his own while Mick does whatever back stage. He has some great tunes for playing live and maybe keep the crowd form dozing so much when Keith does a slow tune?

Fancy Pants sort of sums up this record for me. Great groove, great guitars, but absolutely horrendous lyrics. Improvising is fine but not when it's like this. It takes a potentially good song and lowers it to worse than cheap pop lyrics.

Ron Wood inducted Bobby Womack Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductions in 2009.
http://youtu.be/goGvBv3FHa8 THING ABOUT YOU I really like this tune, its got some hard driving rocking guitar work and a nice cool beat. I love it when Ronnie says heres my guitar baby, get down, get down!, during the guitar solos that's HOT! Yeah this song has got to be about Ekat, you open my eyes in the dead of night..... you dont give it away, you've earned your stay.bop bop |
