Post by Pdog on Dec 22nd, 2011 at 11:20am
December 22
The day joe strummer died
Nobody was happy noone looked funny
Manche haben geweint

But all you punk rock zombies
All you pioneers
All you fat stomaches you give me headache
Two whiskeys please it`s bringin me tears

Hey put your bondage on
Come and singalong
Hey play it straight
Go straight to hell boys

NO CLASH REUNION NOT TODAY
JOE STRUMMER`S DEAD AND FAR AWAY
HE TOOK THE TRAIN TO SOMEWHERE
LIFE LIFE LIFE`S NOT FAIR

NO CLASH REUNION NOT TODAY
NO PUNK REVIVAL ANYWAY
ALL YOU KINGS AND QUEENS
DREAM YOUR DREAMS
FUCK OFF AND DIE

Redemption Song

DAMN IT.  A black day for music, and for me.  In 2002 I was still in mourning after losing my mom, and my bro Marc (SS) called me up to break the news about Joe.  I couldn't process it. I think I might've said "I can't handle this," and hung up on him. Kill the messenger.

I saw Joe 4 times, so I count myself lucky. I saw the best version of the Clash (with Topper) in March 1980, saw them twice on the Combat Rock tour (including Shea Stadium with the Who), and saw the Clash Mk II, which was actually a decent live band, despite what their only miserable album might sound like. (1 good song - "This Is England")

This is still a loss, to me, and to you, to rock & roll, and to the world.

I saw Joe up close in '78 when the Clash played a movie Theatre in Toronto, the sweat was coming of him, I was right next to the stage, it was when "Give 'Em Enough Rope" came out, I will always remember that, he died so young, a real tragedy.
