Title: Get your kicks on Route 66
Post by KMC on Nov 12th, 2011 at 8:54pm
A Stones' oldie but goodie brought to life.
Came across this page with classic photos of the original Route 66.
Know the Stones played San Bernadino once, but doubt they traveled this hard road.

BTW, the Stones learned the song from a Chuck Berry lp, but he didn't write it.

I first hip to this kind of trip from DEPECHE MODE...

They played MSG and WLIR or WDRE played Rt66 10 days before  the single was released and opened with it that evening...MSG was all a frenzy

Yours Truly included!!

Route 66 was written by Bobby Troup who ended up playing a doctor on that old TV show Emergency

As a kid, my family and I got our kicks on Route 66 every summer, as we travelled from So. Cal. to Kentucky and Va. to visit relatives. We had favorite motels {"Roys"}, towns {Tucumcari, N.M.}, eateries.....and, of course, Burma Shave signs! ;D

Always got a kick out of the song....historic road!

My parents hated the Stones until the day my Dad heard me playing Route 66 in my room in '78.
He knocked on my door and said he always loved that song and wanted to know who was doing that version.

I was then allowed to attend my first Stones show in July '78.  :loloncemore

A friend of mine's parents used to have a 78 rpm version of "Route 66" recorded by Bing Crosby with The Andrews Sisters on backup vocals.
