Title: "Satisfaction" ..my, how we forget.. ... fro Post by Ian Billen on Nov 8th, 2011 at 10:24pm
How bout it everyone? It's pretty strange but The Rolling Stones' most signature song (yes...even more than "Start Me Up" over all) is never much discussed or even mentioned a whole lot between Stones fans or on this fantastic board. Why? Well it is the obvious. I suppose it's like never discussing Stairway To Heaven on a Led Zeppelin message board or between fans. The song just goes with out saying and is a "given". So let's get some talk about it because I heard it today and I was just thinking to myself concerning it:
It is the quintessential Rock and Roll riff. Possibly the most quintessential rock and roll song. Almost tooo mainstream even for The Stones being as it is "OK" to like that song no matter what and everyone knows the song. Nobody really says they do not like the song. I mean, how can you?? It is like saying you don't like a nice looking car, or a hot looking chic or something... as juvenile as that sounds I don't know how eles to compare it's universal appeal. You can play that for black folks or a party of thrashers and everyone will like it. At the very least nobody minds it. It is the song that sort of became a sign of the times and really started the Rock ball rolling in the 60's. It also "punched in" the Rolling Stones and landed them in international fame. The kick-start song of their career, if you will. To even the biggest Rolling Stones critic, they still must give them that song. I mean come on, it is forty-five plus years old and is STILL "cool" when it comes on. Any input to the most famous Rolling Stones song that really never gets discussed a whole lot. We take it for granted but it is such a classic and like I said, the damn thing is still cool, all these years later, and you gotta sing it to yourself when it comes on to this day. I don't know many songs that are still very rock and roll yet still cool in sound, and considered "ok" to listen to regardless of the situation dating all the way back to 1965. Very, very few. I mean compare it to other ones like say "Turn Turn Turn" by the Birds from that same year. They sound too dated to consider and mostly lame. This one is still cool and nobody can knock it. Don't forget "Satisfaction" folks. Ian |

Title: Re: "Satisfaction" ..my, how we forget.. ... fro Post by Ian Billen on Nov 9th, 2011 at 9:42pm Well at least nobody is saying it's not that great. I mean, it IS what it IS ... it's "Satisfaction". Who could really say a bad word about it. I was just bringing to light how it is not discussed very much on these boards and between Stones fans being as it is such a "given". As well, I wanted to note that even though it dates all the way back to 65 ... the song is still "cool". Nobody can knock it and everyone, regardless of what click their into gives it to them that song, or at least never dismisses it. Ian |

Can't believe Keith or Stones gave the rights of Satisfaction to Britany Spears to sing & take on tour.

Do they have to 'give the rights?" I am no legal eagle...but an artist can't simply perform another's song w/o paperwork? Without recording, releasing, etc?? Please enlighten me... |

It was voted the #1 top song of last century and will probably be the best song of this century also.

There's no way cover bands secured the rights to all of the music they perform onstage. I'm sure since Britney Spears recorded and released her version of Satisfaction ABCKO was involved in some form.

__________________________ No copyrights are given, sold, or exchanged in that situation. You see, nobody can stop someone from covering a song, any song, or performing it live. The most The Stones camp can do is make Brittany pay the mandatory statutory mechanical royalty rate which is like 8.9 cents on every dollar sold if it were released as a single or per album sale. As for the live shows in which Brittany performed the song, the venue at which Brittany performed the song would then be obligated to pay The Stones publisher/The Stones, not the artist or anybody representing her/him but only if the venue is of a specific size and audience capacity. - Nobody can stop you from playing or covering their song on one of your recordings... However they CAN stop or sue if a person "samples" a recording from another artist and incorporates it into their record / song without permission. Ian |

To a Stones fan, SATISFACTION was like nothing they had put out before. It was head and shoulders above every other single release. An original song, a fast number, a guitar sound no one had ever heard before, it just blasted out of every kid’s 8 transistor radio day and night.
Rush to buy the 45. Disappointed to find out months later there was a picture sleeve, but the old guy in my record shop probably pulled them. The flip side was not one of their better cuts either, but played the A side to death. Still have it. Can barely read the wording it’s so worn. The record plays under a tidal wave of scratches. The big controversy at the time among teens was that in verse three Mick Jagger sang “And I’m trying to make some girl....PREGNANT!” Kids swore by it. Now he’s really mumbling, “They tell me...” but a lot of people wouldn’t accept that. ( Hey, it wasn’t until 20 years later that I found out what it meant for a girl to be “on a losing streak.”) Duh! Interesting to read that Keith? didn’t think it was good enough to release as a single. In the stereo mix you can hear Brian’s acoustic guitar much clearer. And the ‘69 concert version just takes off during the added instrumental break thanks to Mick Taylor solo. I’m with Ian. Still the best Stones’ song ever. |
