Just listened to the new Tom Waits album Bad as Me: oooh, wished the Stones could make an album like this...knocked me out completely....made a grey friday feel a whole lot better. Keith is on three tracks too!

Just downloaded it off i tunes and listening to it now.
Love the fact that on a song Keith plays on '('Satisfied') , Tom throws in a line 'Now Mr Jagger & Mr Richards/I will scratch where I've been itching' the anti-war song 'Hell Broke Luce' is a pretty powerful track ('listen to the general every goddamn word/ how many ways can you polish up a turd'). Keith is also on this one (as well as 'Last Leaf', 'Chicago' and the previously mentioned 'Satisfied'). Good stuff so far. Get the deluxe version. It contains 'Tell me' which is a gorgeous song that sounds a bit like 'downtown train' . Good line up of cameos other than Waits' usual band - Keith, Flea, David Hidalgo, Augie Meyers, Charlie Musselwhite etc. |

My hero. Steelie the Outlaw.
I've probably illegally downloaded enough music to do me until I'm 200. For a select few of my favourite artists, I've no qualms about paying to listen to their work. Twit. |

Jagger, He's in SuperHeavy.
Richards (Keith), on the other hand recorded music recently with Tom Waits. And he's not a member of SuperHeavy. SuperHeavy sucks. |

Interesting mention in that article:
Although the songs often sound like one scrappy band playing live, that’s an illusion. Mr. Ribot, Mr. Hidalgo and Mr. Richards worked separately, coming to California for days at a time and overdubbing parts, to be mixed afterward. |

In another thread in which I posted, I stated my point of view that the Stones are still a current band, and others looked to the point that the haven't released much over the past 15 years to argue otherwise.
I've noticed Tom Waits get a pass though. He didn't release anything from Bone Machine to Mule Variations which is I think an 8 year gap and this new album has a sticker stating this is his first album of new material in 5-7 years. I forget what it said exactly. |

Just confirmed that Tom Waits will perform songs from 'Bad As Me' for the first time on Letterman April 24th and Fallon April 25th.
With Keith presumably being in town (with all this talk of new Stones recordings) maybe there's a chance of a guest appearance? Unlikely on Letterman given Keith's long-standing antipathy towards him, but he seems to get on well with Fallon OK. |

from Anti-Music: Tom Waits has announced the rescheduled dates for appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
Waits was originally scheduled to be on both shows in late April, and new dates have been confirmed. Tom will appear on Letterman July 9 and Fallon on July 10. The music legend will be talking with the hosts and giving the first live performance of songs from his latest recording, "Bad As Me." |

Tom's interview segments when he appears on Letterman are always hilarious.

Cool band for Tom's TV appearances!
Tom Waits: Two TV appearances this week The former San Diego troubadour will appear July 9 and 10 on late-night shows by George Varga Common wisdom in the music industry dictates that a major artist promote their newest album by making the rounds of late-night TV shows, which tend to draw music-savvy viewers. Happily, there is nothing common about Tom Waits, who likes to do things at his own pace. So, it makes perfect sense that Waits will next week perform songs for the first time live from his captivating album, "Bad As Me," which came out last October. The former San Diego troubadour and 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee is set to appear Monday, July 9, on "The Late Show with David Letterman" and Tuesday, July 10, on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon." Waits will be accompanied by his son, Casey, on drums, former Canned Heat/John Mayall bassist Larry Taylor, Los Lobos guitarist David Hidalgo, former Sir Douglas Quintet/Bob Dylan keyboardist Augie Meyers and guitarist Big Bill Morganfield, who is the son of blues pioneer Muddy Waters. How unlikely is it that Waits will tour any time soon? Unlikely enough that, at least for now, his web site doesn't even include a section for live performances. So, enjoy his two TV rare gigs next week. Likely bonus attraction: Watching Letterman and Fallon try to get a straight answer out of the slyly elusive Waits when they attempt to interview him on their respective shows. http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/jul/07/tom-waits-make-two-tv-appearances-next-week/ |
