the tunnels were so cool though that place certainly got claustrophobic. many great memories from that place should have spent a little more time walking around the last time i was there for clapton in '10. gonna try to make the furthur show in november.......well at least they didnt move it to the post office or tear it down like they did with the Spectrum

95% of the concerts I went to in the Garden, I hung out in the tunnels to dance. The first lower tunnel close to the stage had the best sound. The speakers would point right in it most of the time. Plus the aesthetics of MSG were far beyond any other arena. Now it will kind of be similar to all other arenas.
I'm probably going to go see Furthur, it will be bittersweet, I should go alone so I won't have to constantly bitch about how it "use to be" to a friend or my wife. I'll buy a beer and spill it on the ground where the tunnel use to be and say.."To my Homie, who is no longer here!" lol :weed |

In the late 70's early 80's everyones first concert at MSG was Blue Oyster Cult...growing up in NYC,
my earliset memories was Ringling Brothers and the Ice Capades every year with my family...those twirling red lights they sold... for when the lights were turned down...much cooler than cell phones these days. Many a Dead shows...every fall about 6 out of the 10 or so...midtown was transformed into a Deadhead Haven!!! |

Sign the Mona Lisa with a spray can, call it art.

I've been to the Madison Square Garden. But, not for a concert though. It was way back in the 90's, I went for a religious rally. I have a picture standing outside of the building.

Tis was done for security purposes. The tunnels were a good way to sneak in and down to the floor level, which I've done on several occasions. Nowadays MSG is loaded with armed police officers, not just hired security, these are real cops you will get escorted out for misconduct, even smoking weed or cigarettes. Gone are the days of doing anything illegal in MSG since NYC has become a terrorist target and the NYPD is making a big effort to tighten up security. You have to go through a metal detector when entering the Garden now, and a bag search.
