For some reason, I think this song would work really well with a reggae beat. If you flip the world weary lyrics and slow melody to something upbeat, it would change the whole meaning.

Now what that has to do with the 6/8 time question I have no clue. Just throwing it out there.

12/8. Interesting. At least for me, it's easier to digest if you just count in smaller segments of 3/4.

Beautiful song, in any case. I've been revisiting it since hearing Buckingham's cover. I love his focus and approach to that (underrated) '66-'67 period.

I saw 3 Stones cover bands last weekend and they all played most of the same tunes, but each band varied songs a little faster or slower. When I mentioned this to one of the musicians on the last night he told me thats the beauty of the songs, you can play them at different tempos and they still sound great. Some of the boots the Stones play them fast, and other times they play em slow. Thats so fvcking cool. Stones music, hell yeah ~ it's Bangin!

Always considered it 6/8; why would it be 12/8? I don't hear the meter like that at all?

Yes it has never made sense to me at all; in fact to be honest I can only handle 4/4 and 3/4 and I handle 6/8 as 3/4 etc. But I have the score (see below) and if you follow it it’s the way they wrote it, probably it was Brian LOL

I was wrong saying it’s all 12/8, most of the time it’s 12/8 with two short segments @ 6/8 check this score out

Thanks, Voodoo. I had never seen that song scored before.

The song features Keith on organ, no? In that mid-to-late-'60s holding pattern, before he delved into the open-tuned guitars and became the Riff God, Keith was writing some brilliant things on keys: "Have You Seen Your Mother," "We Love You," etc. They tried, and for the most part succeeded, at everything they tried.
