Title: A new found respect for John Lennon Post by Riffhard on Jun 29th, 2011 at 1:53pm
I was always much more of a Lennon fan than a Macca fan, but now I am even more impressed by him. Seems that he knew full well that his one time leftist radicalism was actually naive and immature. He, of course, was 100% right on that score, but it's great to finally know the truth on the subject! John Lennon was a fan of Ronald Reagan!

Personally, I wouldn't take the word of a man who admitted to stealing Lennon's diaries, photographs and letters, but I suppose if that's what you need to do to make a political point....

Point taken, but this is not the first time that Lennon's flirtation with common sense conservatism has been raised. I remember reading years ago that John had more than a few rows with people concerning the childishness of the leftist thought process. I remember an interveiw from the mid seventies, or there about, where he railed against the "group think" that was communism, and how it smothered "independent thought". Is it not ironic that the very forms of government that most leftists argue in favor of (socialism/communism) are the same exact ones that would lock up artists, poets, musicians, etc. first? Lennon apparently knew this too. That said, I don't need John Lennon's thoughts on political issues to inform me though. I only need look towards Greece to know that leftists ideas do not work. I just thought that the article was interesting, and it has a ring of truth to it. Anyone that thought John Lennon was a "peace and flower loving hippie" did not know John Lennon at all. He no doubt believed that "love" was the answer, and that peace was an ideal worth persuing (don't we all?!), but he was far more pragmatic than his image belied. Conservatives are pragmatists first and foremost, so this comes as no shock to me. We need a tour! See? Pragmatic! Riffy |

Yes, I agree! SCL it kinda sucks when all of your dreams are shattered by a little thing like -TRUTH! But there it is. This is not the first time that Lennon has been called out for his closet conservatism btw. He was an intelligent man after all. Bingo you're just nuts. Reagan had Lennon killed? That would come as great news to Mark David Chapman. Riffy |

Its surprising news to me, since John was into peace and love, and was non-violent in nature except for his temper. Regan was pro guns and the right to bear arms so broadly speaking you might say Regan's politics could of been the reason John got shot. If the laws were different Chapman would of never been able to get a gun since he was of questionable sanity and totally out of his mind, a crazy motherfvcker with a deadly waepon.

I really (really :) ) don't want to get into a political conversation, but Riffy, the politics we've had in Greece at least during the past decade have been anything BUT leftist. Which is one of the reasons for the state things are in right now. I believe that leftist ideas do work when they are actually applied. |

You're wasting your time Fotini. Riffy doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about and he never will. So he just remains in a downward spiral grasping at straws (like this topic). It is kind of funny that he chose John Lennon to park his little soap box next to this time..... considering the Stones have made it perfectly clear what they think about his political beliefs. :blankfriggingstare1 :thatwassmart :areyoufuckingserious |

John Lennon was a total bastard. I adore the Beatles and some of his solo recordings, but I wouldn't have given him the time of day unless I had to.

Fontini, with all do respect, in your own view the policies in Greece may not have been leftist, but by American standards they are absolutely 100% leftist. The Greek government spent way more than they took in, and for a country that survives almost solely on it's agriculture and tourist industry that was going to lead to crisis that is facing your country today. The same exact crisis is waiting in the wings for Italy, Portugal, and Spain and for the exact same reasons. The people that are protesting the loudest in Greece are the state union employees (the idea of state unions is 100% leftist btw). In Greece, state union workers make way more than the private sector employees do and therefore they are killing off the golden goose and now they are bitching about it. Leftist polices never work. Ever! If they did countries like Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, etc. would be doing great and their citizens would be thriving. However, anyone that has an ounce of sense knows full well those countries have crap living conditions and are envied only by morons like leonid and other leftist asshats that are not forced to live in such conditions. As the great Margaret Thatcher once so eloquently put it- "The problem with Socialism is that eventually you run out out of other people's money." Greece is now learning this very obvious fact the hard way. Fontini, please don't think I'm picking on your country. It's a beautiful country with wonderful people. It has just adopted a way of doing business that can never fiscally work. Don't feel alone though. The current occupant of the White House is following the exact same path towards insolvency, and there are still some people here that are too stupid to understand the consequences of this brand of idiocy. See leonid and other like minded fools. Riffy |
