Title: Mumford and Sons (nsc)
Post by Starbuck on May 16th, 2011 at 6:45pm
Just getting into Mumford & Sons (thanks meg!)....very melodic and beautiful, but it has taken me numerous spins to grasp my little head around them. It is, however, going well.

Just wondering what the general consensus is about them.

gotta give them their due...a sound like no other (I don't however get out much) and very poetic, versical lyrics.

I do not like it, each song I hear on the radio is worse than the one before. I dislike it with every fiber of my being.

Me of course- me likes them..just as I like OCMS, the Avett Brothers, and Langhorne Slim..add the western influence with Ryan Bingham and the balladeer version with Ray Lamontagne.  These folks, whether we like it or not, are the future of what is left of the music industry. Ain't no loud guitars, but IMHO, they rock and entertain just the same as those guys who are dying off just like us....

I love music and I love listening to new artists, but theseyoungsters have a mix of all that is good in each genre we grew up with and combine those elements in a very entertaining way

I anxiously await their new album

yes, meg, but what are they? folk? rock? pop? orchestra? they ain't hip hop, we know that, but their music seems to be outside any known genre.

which, i suppose, is what makes them interesting!

They are MUCH better live then their CD is in my opinion...find and download one of their shows from the European festivals they played last summer...my favorite song is Roll Away The Stone!:)

I like that they don't fit any "mold" in our preconceived ideas of genre. To me that is a sign of true musicianship.  Anyway enjoy!!  Think you may have a few more folks that I sent you to explore,,,

Allright, seriously. I loved Little Lion Man when it first came out. Then they became radio darlings and I heard it every hour. Needless to say I got sick of that and the Cave. But they do have a unique sound. Ray Davies seems to like them,so they can't be all bad. Like Meg said, this is the wave of the future. Not a lot of electric guitars being featured these days. Which is why I love the new Social D album so much. Me needs some electric geetars....But I can listen to some Mumford's,Avett's and Ray Lamontagne in small doses.

they are a local band - so i've always supported and enjoyed they're music.
  Great live, too.  :)

Looking forward to seeing them at Hyde Park, next month, supporting Arcade Fire.  :)
