Title: What do you think of BEGGAR's BANQUET? Post by Paranoid Android on May 14th, 2011 at 9:43pm
PICK MORE THAN ONE if you want...
Beggar's Banquet is my favorite Stones Album. It so tight and loose...From the opening percussion of SFTD to Keef's strumming and vocal exchanges w/ Mick on SOTE. The only "clunker" , if I had to choose one is SFM...and I love that song...Jigsaw Puzzle is as colorful and image-ridden as (for example) Penny Lane, but in a darker way. I have too many thoughts and could talk and argue all nite about this great album... What are your thoughts? I respect all your thoughts and smart-ass comments...I really do!!! Pick as many as you see fit in your survey!!! |

The album contains Sympathy For Devil, No Expectations, Jigsaw Puzzle, Street Fighting Man and Stray Cat Blues. I know music subjective, but I really do struggle to see how any Rolling Stones fan could view this album as anything but a classic. Personally, I prefer it to Exile On Main Street, but I would rate it lower than Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers. Maybe I need to buy the 2002 Abcko remaster and rediscover this highlight of 1968.

Love it, but consider it #4 of the Big Four. Should have started side 1 with SFM and Sympathy on side 2, which would have set the mood better. I love Keith's opening line of Salt of the Earth, but think the song is a miss in terms of making a Big Statement.
As I've said before, I hate, hate, hate the toilet cover. :warhorse |

There are many ugly album covers. But I wouldn't trade this record for something something |

I think its Very Good or Excellent (it has FG...a great great song)...but not FG's top 2. Those honors go to Exile and LIB!

One of the best albums of '68, a great return to their roots after Satantic majesties, which is alright for people tripping, but not the rock The Stones are 'known for, I should say Jumping Jack Flash was the first sign, which came out before Beggars, it was held up by Decca because of that cover The Stones wanted.

for what it's worth too, it's kinda the album JJF and Chold of the Moon would've been on, if albums weren't time limited... definitely making it IMO, a bigger contender in this era of the big four... in the digital age we got 80 mins to fillu p... bck then, they were cutting stuff out, and releasing stuff only on singles, like Honky Tonk woman, JJF... BB flows better than LIB... This album was more of a risk too, after the lakco f sales for Satanic, this was a comeback album... they were already the old dudes, in 1969!!!

It's a phenomenal album, the beginning of the greatest run of albums and live performances by any band -- but also my least favorite of the Big Four.

One of the greatest Stones' collections on one disc!!
Oh! How I wanted them to play Jigsaw Puzzle LIVE! I was hoping that they'd dust it off during one of the recent tour club shows. :keithpunky |

A precious gem and a perfect showpiece for those whose familiarity to the Stones is limited to their warhorses/rockers.
