Title: Rest In Peace, Dad Post by Honky Tonk Man on Mar 22nd, 2011 at 12:03pm
Hi everyone,
This morning, at around 7:15 am, my father passed away of a suspected heart attack. Due to my severe laziness, he used to give me a lift to the station, but not this morning. After agreeing to met me in the car - whilst this idiot sorted his hair - he collapsed oh the stairs. The paramedics tried for half-an-hour to revive him, but he passed away. I'm totally at a loss and just don't know what to. All I have done today is walk in circles, smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee. The last words he said to me were: 'I don't feel well'... then he died. Rest in peace, Dad :( |

I'm so very sorry Alex.
I lost my mom six years ago this summer and no matter how old you are nothing prepares you for losing one of your parents. Feel what you feel - there is no guide book and no right or wrong. Just don't bottle it up. As others have said, we are all here when you need to vent, chat or whatever. Best Wishes, Angie |

Peace be with you!
Just don't feel guilty...sounds as if you might be blaming yourself to a certain extent. just remember the words of our dear, dear friend Ray: --------- Thank you for the days, Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me. I'm thinking of the days, I won't forget a single day, believe me. I bless the light, I bless the light that shines on you believe me. And though you're gone, You're with me every single day, believe me. Days I'll remember all my life, Days when you can't see wrong from right. You took my life, But then I knew that very soon you'd leave me, But it's all right, Now I'm not frightened of this world, believe me. I wish today could be tomorrow, The night is dark, It just brings sorrow, let it wait. Thank you for the days, Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me. I'm thinking of the days, I won't forget a single day, believe me. Days I'll remember all my life, Days when you can't see wrong from right. You took my life, But then I knew that very soon you'd leave me, But it's all right, Now I'm not frightened of this world, believe me. Days. Thank you for the days, Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me. I'm thinking of the days, I won't forget a single day, believe me. I bless the light, I bless the light that shines on you believe me. And though you're gone, You're with me every single day, believe me. Days. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcZNOdXcUSY |

Oh Alex I am so sorry to hear about your loss and that it was unexpected makes it even harder.
I remember thinking how lucky you were to have such a "hip" father when I met him in London. Don't be too hard on yourself. You will find the strength to get thru the next days, I am sure. When you get thru all these feelings of loss, there will always be the memories to cherish. xo |

Hi everyone,
Firstly, thank you all so much for the kind and considerate thoughts. The coroner phoned this afternoon and it does indeed appear to have been a heart attack. It was incredibly sudden and he would have felt no pain, apparently. I wish I knew his thoughts in the final seconds though. His last words before running up the stairs were: ‘I don’t feel well’ It seemed like the exact same scenario he goes through when he’s about to be sick – maybe he thought he was. At this very moment, my mum, her sister and my two brothers are out at a crematorium. He always said that he disliked the local one, so they have trekked elsewhere! I’ll post more soon. Right now I just need to reflect, I guess. Alex |

Alex,I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dad.I'm a lot older than you and my dad passed away in 1978.It was a long time ago but the memorys of his life with us will always be there. They say time is a healer and it's true.It may not seem like that now but as time go's by things will feel easier. I know it can be extremely difficult, but try to be brave, and it sounds like you have a nice family to support each other.
