Title: Dave Alvin - 5 March 2011 - Chicago Post by Wild Bill on Mar 7th, 2011 at 11:57pm
Dave Alvin was great Saturday night as expected. He played acoustic guitar and sang and was accompanied by Chris “No Filler – Just Killer” Miller on Fender Telecaster guitar. I didn’t buy a ticket for the second show, so I was only able to see the early show. Amy LaVere and her talented combo opened the show with a short set of not much more than about 35 minutes. Amy plays doghouse bass, sings and looks good in high heels.
Dave acknowledged that he’s working on a new album which is coming out in June. I’m guessing that he’ll tour from about June to October this year. So the big question in my mind is: Will it be with The Guilty Women, The Guilty Men, or a combination of the two (Guilty People)? One thing new I learned after seeing Dave 30 or 35 times is that he said he wrote "King of California" for his mother. 5 March 2011 – The Old Town School of Folk Music, Chicago Border Radio Rio Grande Harlan County Line Evening Blues Boss of the Blues Black Rose of Texas* Johnny Ace is Dead* Dry River Everett Ruess Abilene Ashgrove --- encore: Blue Wing King of California * I’m not sure of the actual name of this new song. |
