Title: Rock Star Mortality question Post by Starbuck on Mar 6th, 2011 at 10:25pm
As was noted earlier, the monkees will be touring again this summer...whoop it up folks!
That got me to thinking....besides the monkees, are there any big bands from the 60s/70s that we all consider sacrosanct that still have all of their original members/classic lineup still living? i can't think of any off the top of my head except cream. with pete quaife's passing last year, the kinks were taken off that list. conversely, any bands whose members have all passed away? (see: jimi hendrix experience) gazza, has anyone from bon jovi's original lineup passed away? |

Not sure how many 60's bands are intact....some teenybopper ones are, i.e. The Grass Roots.
YES..? Poco..? The Hollies..? King Crimson..? The Pretties..? I'm just throwing some out, off the top of my head. One statistic I think is pretty amazing. There have been 40+ Raiders {Paul Revere and the...}. And there are only 2 who have passed away, to my knowledge. Unfortunately, those 2 were part of the group when they had their biggest successes and were most prominent on TV. |

Ok, a few more {maybe, ha ha--I haven't really researched them}
Moody Blues..? Genesis..? Aerosmith..? Jethro Tull..? Them..? Manfred Mann..? The problem is.....many of these groups have had many members over the years. And maybe the line-up that was the most famous can boast all living members, but possibly fringe or brief members have passed away... |

Of the bands from the 60's, it's hard to know which groups still have their original members still around, there were so many, I mean look at all the garage bands, a lot of them just had one hit, since a lot of them were not that well 'known & stood the test of time, it's hard to know which bands have all their members still around.
Sioux mentioned a few bands, how about these. The Standells. Iron Butterfly. The Turtles. The Troggs. Chocolate Watchband. The Leaves. Have any of these bands got members still around? Rolling Stone (magazine) used to have once a year a issue Whatever happened to? about artists & bands that were big at one time, & where they are today, don't know if they still do that, anybody know of any sites like this? |

Lol, naw.....nobody is better than Gazza with info like this! :) I'm sure there are tons of groups that I haven't even thought of.....I guess I think about this kind of thing a lot. And yeah, it seems like most groups have lost at least ONE member. Seems that there are quite a few bands who remain intact, and that is GOOD. :) |

I was asleep! And I was thrown by the suggestion that I might try and arrange for the liquidation of Bon Jovi... :) To answer the question about a top band from the 60s with all band members still alive : CSNY Fleetwood Mac The Hollies Jethro Tull (I think) Manfred Mann Them The first four are all still going, more or less. There are loads from the 70's. Its not that long ago! |

I remember hearing something about a guy from Iron Butterfly who drove over a cliff and wasn't found until months or years later. Edit: Turns out he wasn't an original member: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Taylor_Kramer |

The last time I saw what was supposed to be Jefferson Airplane/Starship, whatever....the only one still playing with the band was Paul Kantner.
