25 years ago today and it seems like yesterday.

i missed kennedy, but since then, only 9-11 eclipses this event in terms of the "i remember where i was when...." memories. i still remember the names of the seven. strange...why does the columbia disaster seem to take a back seat to challenger?

more importantly, now that the space shuttle program is done after this year, what next?

Yes I remember, I had just started work at a new job, and it came on the radio on the way to my new office. It was so unreal, listing to the news that I turned off the radio and pulled into the first place that I could. Everyone was looking at it on the TV. Everyone was just so Quiet. A Quiet room full of people. So Sad.

Senior year of college. I was in a theater class and we had just watched a student production of something, when the professor, who had left the room during the play, came back into the room and told us. I wasn't aware the thing was launching that day. I was in college, for goodness sakes.

I was home raising 2 kids...the youngest was 3 months old. For some reason, I didn't have the TV on that morning. My Mom called and told me to turn on the TV. I watched the coverage all day and all night, just holdin' that baby. I'm old enough to remember the tragedy on Jan. 27, 1967, when Gus Grissom, Roger Chaffee, and Ed White were killed in a training accident. It was a BIG deal back then. The space race was a BIG deal. After that first U.S. tragedy, I guess we just got more and more complacent about it all---we never expected anything like that to happen again. Terrible tragedy and it still haunts me. :(
