First recorded in 1972 with only Richards, Watts, Wyman, and Hopkins, then re-worked on in late 2009 with Jagger and Taylor. The lyrics weren't written until 2009 by Jagger, and at that time all the vocals were added in. First release on April 16, 2010 on iTunes.Released on May 17, 2010 on the remastered Exile On Main Street.

First it was recorded between July and November 1971 in Nellcote with Nicky Hopkins and Bobby Keys, later in 2009 it was edited in Los Ángeles from the original outtake adding vocals by Mick Jagger, Lisa Fischer and Cindy Mizelle and then in London guitar by Mick Taylor

I'm pretty sure Taylor's part was done in a studio in London. Maybe Jagger's as well?

As far as I'm aware, none of the overdubs done for the bonus disc featured Jagger and Richards working in the same studio at the same time...

Yes, you're right, according to Nico it was recorded in London http://www.nzentgraf.de/books/tcw/2009.html

Great song. The bonus tracks for the EXILE re-release are superb. Except Keith's "Soul Survivor".

A track which is quite possibly the only song on the album (maybe on both discs) to have had all of its parts recorded at Nellcote.....

Keith did his overdubs over about two or three days in New York
Mick did his parts in London. Maybe some in LA.
Taylor did his overdub in a brief session in London - according to Don Was, it took him about an hour.
The overdubs by the additional musicians would have been done in LA,as far as I know.
The 'David Campbell' credited as string arranger on "Following The River" is the veteran Canadian arranger and conductor. Most rock fans would be more familiar with his son - Beck.

Is there a version of the original plundered my soul on a bootleg ? i don't think so , i never heard it before the Exile release.

The lyrics weren't written until Mick did them for the Exile reissue.

IF the song was recorded at Nellcote, then its never been bootlegged.

There is actually next to nothing from the Nellcote sessions in circulation. Most of what's been bootlegged comes from 1969-70. Hardly any of the vocals on Exile were finished before they added the overdubs in Hollywood in early 1972.

That reminds me that the nice Nicky Hopkins led instrumental that surfaced last year does sound a tad like Plundered, no? Will listen to it again with my new cans ;-)

MICKs voice has thinned out with age and he lost the soft sultry muffled quality. When MICK was younger his words were sloppier sounding and now he annunciates properly, maybe because MICK was high back then and now hes straight. I like the younger voice better ~ but its all good! MICK still has the range and emotion and is never, ever boring. Lets not forget its been a 50 year span and the changes are natural. MICK has done an excellent job in staying at the top of his game at every age. I LOVE MICK and take it personally when he gets shot down with insults that he does not deserve!

Please explain what it is about Keith and this seeming denial about Taylor, surely it does not come from an age old..........."No one Quits The Stones" attitude.
Which by the way I have to agree with but that's me a fan, not  Keith Richards. Is it true Do my Gods have clay feet, is Keith a  :kissmyass. Say it aint so JOE!
This seems to relate to the way, he is remembering and  writing about Brian in his book.
Or as I hope he just forgot, or what difference does a reissue make to him.
Plus  here another Question, how do these musician feel about stuff that they considered no good when originally done, now all of a sudden, seems to be alright to now fix up a release?
Is it just for the $ say it isnt so Joe.
were only in it for the money
