Album: Emotional Rescue
No "warhorses" but each song is memorable and a cult classic.

Gem: I Want to Be Loved
One of Brian's best harp solos

Paint It Black, Under My Thumb, Lady Jane, all great tracks, so I don't know if its underrated.  The non-hits are certainly very strong, though.

I will take this question with a duel meaning...

Underrated by fans like US...who post on fan sites etc...

and underrated by the general masses who listen (ed) to FM radio and just want their art
spoon fed to them...

Underrated by the fan community...UNDERCOVER...it is too easily cast aside as MTV fodder

Underrated by those who suck on said fodder..BLACK and BLUE or GHS...simply for all
the reason we all on RO love these albums

Their Satanic Majesties Request, it's a real gem and always underrated, many fans consider Dirty Work and this one as the worst but there ain't no comparison, TSMR is an excellent album.

Out Of Our Heads (UK Version). One of their best albums, with "Mercy Mercy", "Hitchhike", "Cry To Me", "That's How Strong My Love Is", "Heart Of Stone", and much more, and I've never seen it mentioned or discussed on this board, so it's definitly underrated here!!

Damn, you convinced me.  Heart of Stone is one of my top 10 tunes.  Hard for me to pick between this and 12X5 for underrated regarding their pre-68 albums.

For me it is : Between the Buttons.

Maybe in the shade after Aftermath and no hits but a collection of very impressive songs!

Underrated by the fan community :   anything from 1964-67.
To read the forums sometimes you'd be forgiven that the Stones didnt exist prior to 'Jumpin' Jack Flash'

Underrated by the public : Bridges To Babylon.

I agree with this...
but will also add

cause I like it but most here don't.
Why do I like it.......
it's a personal thin.
I got to finally go see them with this album after years of tryin and failing I got to see the Stones.
It's got a lot of different thins going on, Blues, Rock, Country, Pop. Similar to my favorite, Exile On Main Street.
This album marks that for me. other wise I'd still like it .
Otherwise if I had one answer to the question it would be:
BLACK and BLUE

Their first two UK LP’s are underrated, IMO. Both The Rolling Stones and Rolling Stones No.2 reached No.1 on the British LP’s chart – and in fact, are both the two biggest-selling Stones albums in the UK. Their debut was the first Stones record I listened to in its entirety and I know it note-for-note.  It’s utterly superb in every way. The second LP (released in Jan ’65) I a slight step-down in quality, but is still wonderful, with the rollicking Down The Road Apiece and haunting Time Is On My Side.

My choice, too; but "no hits"?  What about "Ruby Tuesday"?  Or "Let's Spend the Night Together"?

Gazza  I would completely agree.  It's lost on a vast majority of fans just how great the early stuff is.  Which is why my immediate thought was Aftermath.

Runner Up - Undercover

BTW, age is no excuse for not knowing the early stuff.  I wasn't born til 1968 and I do so ......... oh, whatever it's worth.  ;D

I suspect he's referring to the UK release, here.

I, too, think Between The Buttons is a tad underrated. It's more 'fun' than Aftermath - you gotta love the likes Miss Amanda Jones and the oh-s-groovy Something Happened To Me Yesterday  8-)

I'm going to say Steel Wheels isnt appreciated by some of the Stones community, not listened to much. This song is good to play to a new lover.

HEARTS FOR SALE
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

My spirit is winging
My soul is free
I'm doing my drinking
In good company
The music's screaming
My feet are flying
Everybody's laughing
And nobody's crying
Sneak suspicion
It drags me down
A nagging feeling
Going round

Hearts for sale
Going cheap
Hearts for sale
Lovers' leap

My belly's full
My glass is brimming
The women look so beautiful
And I feel like singing
The voice of conscience
The voice of reason
Is yacking in my plans
I call that treason

Hearts for sale
Going cheap
Hearts for sale
Blood runs deep

I'm losing my willpower
My blood's running cold
My body's on pause
My mind's stuck on hold
There ain't nothing I can do about it
Sneak suspicion
It drags me down
Nagging feeling
Going round

Hearts for sale
Going cheap
Hearts for sale
Blood runs deep
Hearts for sale

I don't need a doctor
I need a deputation
You don't want my loving
You can just take my resignation
I'm under the hammer
I'm a full time worker
I'm a real body slammer

being underrated is overrated=

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzvpGhUECLc

Well if you call this a life
Why must I spend it with you?
If the show must go on
Let it go on without you
So sick and tired hanging around with jerks like you

Who'll tell me those lies
And let me think they're true?
What am I to do
You want it, I got it too

Though the LAUGHS MAY BE CHEAP
That's just cause the joke's about you
I'm so sick and tired hanging around with dogs like you
You're the first to get LAID, always the last bitch to get paid

Oh, tell me those lies
Let me think they're true
I heard one or two
They weren't about me, they weren't about her
They were all about you

I may miss you
But missing me just isn't you
I'm so sick and tired hanging around with dogs like you

Tell me those lies
Let me think they're true
I heard one or two, and they weren't about me, they weren't about her
They're all about you
I'm so sick and tired
What should I do
You want it, you get it...
So how come I'm still in love with you?
