I remember being a reg on Gasx3 for years knowing that Rocks Off was here but never knew who came first?

Does Keno advertise the site's established date ?

Uh, why does "Lew" display when I type K-E-N-O ?

Wasn't there a forum called 'Stones Planet' that was active before this message board? I also understand that Rollingstones.com had one during the Bridges To Babylon Tour, too.

I don't know if here was founded prior to Keno's board or not, but I was a regular there first. In fact, I was still at school when I started posting there! I remember Steel Driving Hammer, Nanker, jb, Sir Stonesalot, Joey, Gazza from way back then! I became active on the Gas Gas Gas Message board around December 2000 - Christ, 10 years ago - and must have started here around late '01 or early 2002.

Yes and No.

technically, this board has been active since July 1998, making it older than any other currently existing Stones message board.

However, it was known as 'Goin' Home' back then and owned by Linda Wright, and co-admin'ed by the rest of us. Linda gave it up in March 1999, and we re-launched the site as 'Rocks Off'.

I think Gas x 3 launched late 1998 following the demise of 'Exile from Stonesworld' which had been going since late 97/early 98 I believe, although as Keno didn't run that site, it's not a continuation of a defunct site.

I recall that Stonesdoug had a weekly AOL chat forum by early/mid 1998, but I dont think Shidoobee launched as a site until late 1998.

Basically, all of us emerged from the embers of dying official sites. 'Exile from Stonesworld' came from the 'Stonesworld' forum which had been the first Stones official site in the mid 90s, but which was on its last legs by the time the BTB tour came around, at which time the official site became www.the-rolling-stones.com. The forum on THAT site got spammed into oblivion in early 1998, and the people running the site basically gave up on updating it once the tour left the US, so a few of us decided to take matters into our own hands and launched our own forums where we could chat and could keep fans updated with Stones news.

IORR started as a magazine in 1980 (I've been a subscriber since 1983) and I think the website launched around 1996. However, they didnt have a message board as far as I can recall until around the time of the Licks tour.

Linda, Voodoo, Jaxx and myself all got to know each other in January 1998 on the BTB official forum. There are still a few people on here who were around at that time too - Tom L was one of the first people I got to know on that site, and I think left shoe shuffle goes back to that time as well.

I think StonesPlanet was the European site run by that balloon Pia (aka Charlotte) (the Danish woman, not our own bit torrent maestro)

Alex is only 27. I think it was his 19th birthday around the time he flew to New York to join us for his first Stones show, at Giants Stadium in 2002.

I remember way back in 94/95 there was a bulletin board called Undercover.  I think that was it's name. It was a very rough board, with just general set lists etc.  If I recall correctly, it was run out of Philadelphia. One of it's members saw me wearing a Stones tee shirt and wrote down a super long web address for this board.

Post by Voodoo Chile In Wonderland on Jan 11th, 2011 at 7:26pm
Well, Gazza explained the whole thing really good.

Since we started the message board in July 1998 we are the oldest that is active nowadays. When I say we I mean (ladies first) Kill4Mick, Jaxx, Gazza and “Voodoo Lounge Chile” … and then there were three, The Unholy Trinity and then for practical purposes only two, “the dynamic duo” LOL (Jaxx is still here with us and she was a key element to start the board, she is the boss.

But the real OLDEST Rolling Stones on-line community is by far Undercover, they started back in 1992 and still active. That list has really good people and I have some good friends there however I feel a little bit like a stranger there so I unsubscribed last year.

Stones Planet as a message board was created some years after and was the one with the lowest traffic, Stonesdoug and BV created their boards in 2001 and are really great IMHO. I have posted on both but now I have been very busy since some years ago so I just post here and not as often as in the past

Thanks for the 'boards' history lesson! I just web-surfed here accidently one day looking for information. I asked the question 'what was the longest RS setlist' and within minutes there were a few answers so I was hooked. Now I try not to skip a day, I might miss something important and LOL reading the posts! I dont like to be censored, which is why ROCKS OFF is my favorite RS board ~ Shidoobee & IORR are too sensitive and polite. I like the 'anything goes' attitude around here! Aside from that ROCKS OFF has the coolest crowd! I've met many of you in real life and it makes me really happy to have Stones-friends in so many different places!  Thats why I love RO board and the Stones too on so many levels. Just the name 'ROCKS OFF' satisfies me since it's such a fvcking great rockin sexy song!
my favorite verse:
I was making love last night
To a dancer friend of mine.
I can't seem to stay in step,
She comes every time she pirouettes over me.

uh-huh yeah MICK! Actually that dancer-friend used to post on MJ.com, it's a true story. She posted about it and I believed her.

I love it here and many thanks all those that keep it LIVE............
It would be interesting to find out how some of the rest of us found it?
I came on it by chance looking for the words to "Rocks Off" For the singer in my Band! I also had just gotten tickets or was looking for tickets to see THE STONES. I had missed out on them 3 times before And had vowed not to ever miss them again.
I read for a while before posting.....you know standing in the shadows.
I kind of felt like the guy who read his roomates HOMETOWN paper. I was not one of you but I kind knew you as far as the internet goes.
I remember be called out by a few, Gazza got me first for referring to this place as a Blog! He was of course the gentlemen he is, and  explained it to me.
"Kilroy this is a forum not a BLOG" I loved it.........I still say it sometimes to clients and friends. When they get on my nerves a little. "This is a forum not a Blog." They look at me oddly, but I never explain, I go on explaining whatever I needed to explain.
My love for that other Band you know The Beatles, Elvis, Jerry Lee and some others  has brought some indignation from some here. Rightly so. You should always have manners in someone else house and or site. Don't go Paris and talk about how great the Germans are!
My first post signature or avatar you know that little picture over your name was Homer Simpson, I believe, it was one you could get from the site. It took me some time to figure out how to do the Photo bucket thin. I have got a lot from this forum.......Friendship, Information, and a place.... to just go.
The trip to Atlantic City I left about 15 mins to early, had I just checked here I would have found out ..oh well you know the rest.
Here I am  below with a bunch of my RO buddies.
One of the thins I aspire to have, is have my photo cut into the Rocks Off family photo. The  photo take off of SGRT Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band collage. That would be neat!
One Last thin I feel I can finally say it now, with only some 1000 post (counting the ones not counted from the old House, I mean site,........Fuck off Gazza .........I love you dude. Did I just say that!
Thanks again you guys Gazza, Voodoo, and all, I feel like I owe you. :smilestu

i believe the old stonesworld board is still up somewhere, no? i've seen the archives and they are a hoot to browse through...back in day when moonpiddle posted as moonlight mile and professed his love for bernie kosar, joey was actually somewhat cute (for the first week or so, back in about 1997), and cardinal fang graced us all with his neverending knowledge and legions of made up handles that also praised his neverending knowledge. those were the days!

then that whole cleveland thing happened and things haven't been the same since.

That was Martha Packard (aka MarthaMyDear) - who was a regular on here until about five years ago and who occasionally returns for a cameo appearance.

Dont remember her running THAT site, though - the one she ran (a couple of years after that) was called therolling-stones.com

Ah, was that the lovely Martha who I sat next to at Sticky Fingers? She gave me a Stones necklace - which I lost in San Francisco - and a Stones tongue patch - which I still have. It's a shame she's no longer a regular.

Also, whatever happened to AzQb? I remember her well from Gas x3, here and having good laugh with her at Giants Stadium.

Yeah, Martha was over in London for the Twickenham/Astoria/Wembley Arena week in 2003. Couldnt believe it that night at Sticky Fingers when she brought a gift for EVERYONE. She was on facebook a lot but deactivated her account a few months ago - I'm sure she'll pop up again at some point. She was one of a few people on here, Gasland and Shidoobee who bailed me out with tickets and good company when I went to LA for the shows in 2002 and my initial 'contact' had let me down. That week was a riot.

I lost contact with Chrissie (AzQb) a few years ago. I know she moved home and her and her husband started a hired car business which last time I spoke to her seemed to be doing well. She seems to have changed e-mail address. She was a hoot - and she spoke the same crazy way that she posted!

Well, the reason was simply because (1) No bars close to the venue to fit so many people and being real close to the venue to go crawling and (2) of the big amount of people as we join with the Shiddobeelanders
