Title: Music of 2011
Post by Boomy on Jan 7th, 2011 at 8:15am
I'm going to start this thread for music in the year 2011 here. This is a place where you can post what you're looking forward to, what your 2011 purchases are (just releases from '11), reviews of albums, etc.

Some of the albums I'm looking forward to are:

Queens of the Stone Age - Queens of the Stone Age (new tracks added and remastered) [1/11/11]
Potential new album from Queens of the Stone Age (no date yet)
The Strokes' new album (reportedly will be released in March)
Social Distortion - Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes (1/18/11)
White Lies - Ritual (1/18/11)
Cold War Kids - Mine is Yours (1/25/11)
Drive-By Truckers - Go-Go Boots (2/15/11)
New York Dolls - Dancing Backwards in High Heels (3/15/11)
New Jane's Addiction
New Foo Fighters
New Lil' Wayne
New U2
Potential new White Stripes

The album as previously known is now obsolete. I probably won't be buying any.

new Social Distortion (already heard it - it's very, very good and Stones fans should like it)

new Lucinda Williams , 'Blessed' out on March 1st

new Emmylou Harris album, due out in April

new Gillian Welch album sometimes in 2011, hopefully.

A second volume of Neil Young's Archives which should cover the 1972-82 period. May come out this year, although who knows.

I'm hoping for a new Stones record in 2011, but I'm not holding my breath...

I wouldn't either. Hard to believe by the time they *might* announce a tour it'll be 6-7 years since the announcement of ABB. It's probably been said since '89 (heck, maybe even '81?) that time's getting thin for these guys. I think it really is--at least on the scale of how they've done it the last two tours.

I'm looking forward to new albums from The Strokes, Beady Eye - Liam Gallagher's new group - Noel Gallagher and Beyoncé. The Killers must surely have a new album up their sleeve for this year, too.

Soundgarden will be releasing a live album on March 22nd called Live on I5. It's culled from shows on the west coast in 1996 (hence the I5 in the title).

Don't they have anything in the archives from one of the good tours?

Michael Monroe has a new album coming out in March but if it isn't released in the U.S. I am just going to steal it. Lucinda Williams has a guest slot on it.

Van Halen will formally start work on a new studio album with Grammy Award winning producer John Shanks Monday January 17. The news of the band's plans was confirmed by myself this weekend.
Rumours of Shanks' involvement with the band surfaced a couple of months ago at the Van Halen Newsdesk. It can now be confirmed.
The band will record their first all-new studio album since 1998's Van Halen III and their first with original singer David Lee Roth since 1983's 1984.
There are no further details available about this latest stint in the studio, nor any suggestion of when the band will be finished and anything subsequently released. Manager Irving Azoff is said to be pushing the band to tour, but I'm told Eddie Van Halen is reluctant to do so without any new material to release.
So while a 2011 tour has been publicly mentioned previously by Azoff, it remains up in the air as to when, or even if a tour will happen this year. A record needs to be completed and I doubt anyone will want to start speculating as to when that will happen.

Questions remain about what happened to the much discussed 2010 recording sessions with producer Ross Hogarth. Officially denied, and not likely to ever be addressed, the fact remains the band were in the studio writing and working for much of 2010. Several famous names commented positively about hearing new material during 2010, including Dweezil Zappa & John 5.
Additionally Warner Publishing issued a press release mid-year stating that the band had re-signed to the company, adding that they were (at that stage) in the studio recording.

Additional rumors remain about Warner's desire to release remastered versions of the band's Sammy Hagar fronted albums and I'm hearing talk of a career spanning Box Set at some stage - fuelled by news that Warner also reached new publishing agreements with Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and David Lee Roth in 2010.

Stay tuned...

Haven't they "formally start(ed)" work(ing) in the studio for the last few years?
