Title: Biggest Bang Blu Ray (Regrets) Post by Pdog on Dec 14th, 2010 at 4:40pm
Decided to get the one disc version off Netflix... sound and video is much better than my standard set... the bummer is, it's just the Zilker show and extras... The Best Buy Edition had the rest of the content like Rio and Argentina ect... and that seems to be OOP on Blu Ray now. I remember when it came out on Blu Ray I said I'm happy with my 4 DVD set... I don't think Four Flicks is on Blu Ray... that would be amazing. Watched that the other day on DVD, and man, have I become spoiled by Blu Ray and loud sounds blasting from my speakers... If anyone knows of a Best Buy complete Bigger Bang version on Blu Ray,m let me know... I'm all over it!!!

I'm hoping to find the 4 disc blu rsy set one day, and bummed I passed on it when it was a best buy only release. |

So Best Buy had the full thing on Blu Ray? I just did a quick look on Ebay and Amazon and nothing. Are you sure your mind isn't playing a trick on you? I seem to remember a Blu Ray set a while ago too........

After I got my blu ray from netflix today, I thought something was wrong, since it only had Zilker and bonus features on it... After reading the descritption, I realized The Blu Ray version was limited, and went on amazon, and the reviews I read talkked about a Best Buy Edition with all 4 disc content in Blu Ray format... or so I thought... I'm confused, maybe Gazza knows... The Blu Ray version has amazing sound and a much cripser picture... |

I have a blu ray player, but just the standard dvd of bb. But, what if i play it in the ps3 or in my new upscaling dvd? It'll be full HD then!

if you play the dvd is a standard player, compared to the Ps3, you will see an upgrade of the same dvd, just b/c the blu ray reads better and enhances everything. And a blu ray disc, in the Ps3 hooked up to a 1080p TV and a great sound system will blow you away... which goes back to my orginal post... I want to see more, and the blu ray disc I have and thety are selling doesn't have disc 2 and 3 from the standard dvd release... |

Yeah, i got a 1080p lcd. Got the ps3. Got a new Yamaha receiver & new Panasonic dvd player. I got it all! Here in OZ, our ps3's are set up only to play our region. It's the old hassle many of you Yanks seem to have with region coding on standard dvds. Our dvds are "world zone" and have been for years, but not the ps3 - and not many blu-ray players. It's a bummer! I can get it modified, but it costs a packet & if anything goes wrong, i'm on my own. So i got a "world zone" upscaling dvd player. Plays everything in 1080p. And my amp upscales every connection too. Though i dont worry about that too much as hdmi cables are my only connections now.
Blu-ray is the way to go, but as can be appreciated, we dont get alot of obscure releases out here. And i dont want to take a chance that a blu ray from U.K. or U.S. will/wont work on my ps3. Oh, we get all the major stuff, but ultra rare dvd's can be hard to find. I order from DVD PACIFIC for any U.S. release i cant get here. Which these days, is quite rare. I'm looking for a great early 70's film called "Punishment Park" which if i can get here, costs a fortune. With our dollar now equal to the Greenback, buying on line has never been better. But, as i am going to U.S. in March, i'm gonna wait to see what i can find. What i'm saying is, a upscaling unit can equal blu-ray. Maybe not 100%, but sure as hell, not far off. Oddly, i got the blu-ray of L&G, and won the standard dvd from Facebook. No significant difference i can see. |

I'm pretty sure the BlueRay BB is one disc only, the HD sources likely don't exist for the other content so there wouldn't be any point, heck, the Rio show is even 4/3 I think and doesn't look too hot on DVD.

it looks like crap... and the sound crackles... so they didn't work hard at mastering the sound too. oh well. I'm going to lower my expectation, and desire for more. The Austin, Zilker park show is amazing to watch and filmed and directed to show thhe band off. It is as good as Shine A Light IMO. |

One thing I take for granted is DVD regional coding. It's a bummer to hear that even Blu Ray player on PS3 isn't universal... for some reason I thought a UK or Oz or USA Ps3 would be the same and play any regional DVD coding. Do you take goods through customs or ship it all back to yourself.... I hope you don't get hassled trying to smuggle blu ray discs!!! haha! |

Alot of blu ray discs are region free, particularly music vids. But i hate to take a chance. I'll hopefully go nuts when i go to America in March. Though i'll be looking for more obscure counter-culture movies instead of new releases. We can bring up to $1,000 worth of stuff back in without paying duty/tax on it. I just bought a Tele 72 custom from a mate of my brothers who works in a guitar shop here in Melbourne. If the price is right, i might be able to get a Tele American Standard in the U.S. His shop "Mannys" is like an institution here. Manny himself is on his site pleading with us not to buy o/s. I say "well, match it pal!" And they did. I got $350 off my 72 custom. small market imports like guitars have always been a rip off here. I have no sympathy. Some axes had a 100% mark up at one stage.
On a side note, all the major retailers here are going insane as we are all buying goods online due to our high dollar. Our big retailers are really whining to the Gov't, trying to get the tax free $1,000 limit reduced or taken away all together. So far, they reckon it's one of the worst xmas's for them. Not because we are in recession, but because we are doing TOO good. They are literally throwing flat screen panels & surround systems away! After xmas, i might buy a 55inch lcd (though i dont really need it) as our dollar is so high & the bargains are there to be made. The big chains throw in another tv, or a new ps3, 3d glasses x 4 & 4 3d movies as well. I;ve NEVER seen it so good here! Mind you, the two leading bastards calling for us working/middle class folk to go to hell are worth billions - so fuck 'em i say! Fender have even dropped their guitar prices. I recently bought a new Yamaha surround amp & got $300 off without even really haggling. And airfares! Man, airfares are like almost half of what they were 12-18 mths ago. Its awesome! So long as something is legal, we can easily have it shipped. I've got mates who bought classic Mustangs. Including shipping, its still cheaper than buying one from a collector here. The major, major bummer with region coding is that we are linked with frigging China - and not the U.S. In the old dvd days, i think we were linked with Africa! I dont know about my fellow Aussies, but my Mandarin is pretty weak. As is my Cantonese. lol |
