Title: Best Shows You Saw in 2010
Post by sweetcharmedlife on Dec 13th, 2010 at 10:34pm
Well, more than a bit of a slow year with no Stones or Springsteen to follow this year. So,not much doubt tha tthe 2 McCartney shows I caught fairly early in the year were clear highlights for me. Also,an outstanding Neil Young solo show. Which, frankly I enjoyed more than I expected. Pretty slim pickins after that. Did catch a good Alice in Chains show. Not a huge fan. But Jerry Cantrell is a talent always worth watching. Also saw a fun Leon Russell show in Lake Tahoe this weekend. My old tired brain can't think of any others at the moment. But what say you RO'ers. Who'd you see this this year?

A low key year, as I only left Belfast twice for concerts - Dylan in Prague and Arcade Fire last week in Dublin.

My favourite show of the year without a doubt was the double header of Dave Rawlings Machine (with Gillian Welch) and The Old Crow Medicine Show at the Open House Festival in September. Proof if ever it was needed (are you listening, Mick?) that an audience doesnt need to know every song in advance beforehand to have a great time. And not an electric guitar in sight, either.

Bob Dylan in Prague, Czech Republic would be second. Probably the best Dylan gig I've seen since the four Brixton and Dublin shows I saw in a week in November 2005.

Gaslight Anthem were very good as well.

very uneventful and quiet concert year for me.

I would have to say the Avett Brothers, Band of Horses, John Prine,  and Dylan were the highlights for me.... and about the only shows I attended! ;)

Hope next year brings more....

MY 2010 CONCERTS & GIGS: February 12, YES, Tropicana, Atlantic City, NJ; February 19, ERIC CLAPTON & JEFF BECK, Madison Square Garden, NYC; February 27, FURTHER, Taj Mahal, Atlantic City, NJ; GLIMMER TWINS, April 9, Ellicotville, NY; BERNARD FOWLER, April 10, Ellicotville, NY; May 5; May 25, BERNARD FOWLER (KEEF in the house!) Canal Room, NYC; May 30, SATISFACTION, BB Kings, NYC; June 5, JAMES TAYLOR & CAROLE KING, Fort Lauderdale, FL; July 3, RINGO STARR & His All Starr Band, Caesar's Palace, Atlantic City, NJ; July 10, FURTHER, Mann Center, Philly, PA; July 24, STEVE WINWOOD & CARLOS SANTANA, Taj Mahal, Atlantic City, NJ;  August 7 BLACK EYED PEAS, Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, NJ; August 13, SATISFACTION, Voorhees, NJ, August 24 TOM PETTY Izod Center, NJ; September 4, BLUSHING BRIDES, Wildwood, NJ; September 5 GLIMMER TWINS, Wildwood, NJ; September 6, SHATTERED, Wildwood, NJ; September 11, BLONDIE, House Of Blues, Atlantic City, NJ; September 18, SHAKIRA ~ Taj Mahal, Atlantic City, NJ; October 30 GLIMMER TWINS, Sullivan Theater, NYC; November 14, BOB DYLAN, Monmouth College, NJ; November 21, FURTHER, MSG, NY, so far.

I loved them all but if I have to pick a favorite show that would have to be Bernard's gig with Waddy Wachel at the Canal Room. That was the club show with Alex Richards as the DJ and KEEF, Patti, Angela, THeo & Alex and a bunch of friends were there. Bernards daughter had just graduated from (I guess) NYU and she was there with her crowd, and many of his family members were there too, celebrating. It felt more like a party than a concert, very intimate setting.  A bunch of my friends were there too so it was really a fun night with incredible music. Waddy was on fire, to impress KEEF I guess but he's fvcking awesome! Smiles all around!
