Title: Keef, Ronnie & Steve Jordan-at Paul show tonight?
Post by Steel Wheels on Dec 13th, 2010 at 6:04pm
Steve Jordan was just interviewed by Sirius XM as part of the pre-concert coverage of Paul's show at the Apollo Theater tonight. He mentioned that Keef and Ronnie may be in the house tonight.  More importantly, he said he has been working with Keef on Winos stuff.

Nice!

It will be nice if it's going to see the light of day. The Winos are a fantastic band and it would be a great kick in Keef's ass to see them firing it up again.

I hope they really are backstage to see the show.  I want to see pictures!

It would certainly spice up Macca's show if they played.  Macca was dreadful on SNL this weekend...

Kudos to Scott Greenstein of Sirius XM: he pulled off a coup. Later, at Marcus Samuelsson‘s new Harlem restaurant, the Red Rooster, guests dined on veggie dishes. Paul and his lovely girlfriend Nancy Shevell made the rounds, and settled down to eat with Keith, Patti, Ronnie and Keith’s longtime manager Jane Rose. It’s about 46 years since most of them met, and they’re still going strong. Amen.

Sir Paul McCartney to play 100 Club gig in London

Sir Paul McCartney is to play his smallest gig for more than 10 years at the 100 Club in London.

The Beatles legend will play at the 300-capacity venue, which is under threat of closure, on Friday lunchtime.

"I'm looking forward to being able to interact with fans on a face-to-face basis, not to mention the smell of sweat and beer," Sir Paul said.

A campaign to save the club has gained support from Rolling Stones star Ronnie Wood and Oasis singer Liam Gallagher. During its 70-year history, the intimate venue has hosted concerts by acts including Louis Armstrong, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Sex Pistols, Oasis and Metallica.

It will be Sir Paul's smallest gig since he played at the Cavern Club in Liverpool in 1999, his representatives said. Tickets go on sale at 1000 GMT on Wednesday. The "stripped down" show will be a warm-up for two further gigs - in London on Saturday and in his home city of Liverpool on Monday.

Meanwhile, the campaign to save the 100 Club received a boost recently when Ronnie Wood performed on its stage as part of a benefit concert.

I'm sorry Mr. Joey. I know this upsets you but it's true. I am not sure if he was getting over being sick or what but his voice just wasn't there. They tried hiding it by burying it in the mix and it was difficult hearing him much of the time. They had a back-up join in quite high in the mix on select parts to compensate it seemed. His vocals just were not cutting it. In fact they seemed a bit raspy when you could hear him as well? Naturally I'm not trying to rain on your parade but I did want to bring this topic to light.

Anyone know if he was sick or had vocal troubles lately?

It was just a bad studio mix on the SNL set. All reports say that his voice was just fine at the Apollo last night.

What I heard was no bad mix. I know a bad mix from a "covered mix". His vocals were being covered.

Now, that is not to say he didn't sound fine at The Apollo. He could of had a sore throat. He could of had vocal fatigue. He could of just been hoarse. Whatever he had it was a problem on Saturday. He must of recovered or at least greatly improved by the time of the Appollo show.

Paul McCartney plays London 100 Club show for 300 fans

Ex-Beatle urges the crowd to help save 'really cool' venue

Paul McCartney played a lunchtime gig at London's 100 Club today (December 17), treating the crowd to some of the biggest hits of his career.

The show was the smallest the former Beatle had played since he performed at the Cavern Club in his native Liverpool in 1999. The London venue has a capacity of 300 – with The Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood among the audience members for the show.

Billed on tickets as A Packed Lunch At The 100 Club, McCartney played a 28-song set, kicking off just after 1pm (GMT). He greeted the crowd with a casual "Alright?", joking that his slightly late arrival was due to the traffic.

After he said that he thought the 100 Club, which is under threat of closure, needed to be saved, a shout of, "Why don't you buy it?" came from the crowd. "You buy it, I'll rent it!" the Liverpool legend quipped back.

With a plea for "No heckling, now!", he and his band launched into 'Matchbox', a Carl Perkins song that the Fab Four used to cover back in 1961.

He also played Big Joe Turner's 1953 hit 'Honey Hush', 'Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying' (made famous by Ray Charles) and Marvin Gaye's 'Hitch Hike'. He also played 'One After 909', a song that appears on the final Beatles album 'Let It Be' but is also one of the earliest John Lennon/McCartney compositions, dating back to 1957.

A mid-set spell at the piano featured his solo favourite 'Maybe I'm Amazed' and 'Nineteen Hundred And Eighty-Five', the closing track on the recently-reissued 'Band On The Run' album.

McCartney was clearly relishing the special occasion, and was in playful form throughout. "We used to have to sign autographs on ciggy packets or bus tickets," he said before 'And I Love Her', "and now there's a chap here holding up an iPad with, 'Paul: sign my iPad!' on the screen!" Just after the song finshed, another fan handed him a Christmas present: a seven-inch single of Little Richard's 'Shake A Hand'.

Later, before 'Dance Tonight', he played a jaunty song called 'Petruska' on ukelele in a mock-Russian accent, laughing that a review of a previous show in which he played it had described it as "an ancient Russian folk song".

Following on from perennial main set closer 'Hey Jude' he returned for an encore that began with 'Yesterday', once more urging the crowd to help save the 100 Club. "It's a really cool place," he said, "and many of my heroes have played on this stage. This has been a blast, let's do it again sometime!"

The band then rejoined him for a medley of 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band (Reprise)' and 'The End'.

He's now set to play two shows this weekend, at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo in London tomorrow and the O2 Academy Liverpool on Monday.

Paul McCartney played:

'Matchbox'
'Magical Mystery Tour'
'Jet'
'Drive My Car'
'All My Loving'
'One After 909'
'Honey Hush'
'Let Me Roll It'
'The Long And Winding Road'
'Nineteen Hundred And Eighty-Five'
'Maybe I'm Amazed'
'Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying'
'Blackbird'
'Calico Skies'
'I'm Looking Through You'
'And I Love Her'
'Petruska'
'Dance Tonight'
'Eleanor Rigby'
'Hitch Hike'
'Band On The Run'
'Ob-La Di, Ob-La Da'
'Let It Be'
'Hey Jude'
'Yesterday'
'Get Back'
'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band (Reprise)'/The End'
