Keith Richards is an orchid killer, a librarian has claimed.


A flower at the New York Public Library reportedly died just days after the Rolling Stones rocker allegedly lit up a cigarette and used the plant's pot as an ashtray.


Richards, 66, had been at the library's Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers on October 29 for a talk about his new memoir, Life.


And before he went onstage it is claimed he had a cigarette in the office of deputy director Marie d'Origny. She said he opened the window as he smoked.


But the orchid - a Phalaenopsis amabilis - apparently couldn't take the smoke and the draught from the open window, and its 12 white flowers fell off four days later, the New York Daily News reports.


A representative for the musician was unavailable for comment.

I wonder if this kind of stuff happened before all this Anti-smoking stuff started to happen, like in the 60's/70's/80's did Orchid plants die too, never mind any period before that.

Probably anyone would put their money on an orchid outliving Keith Richards... but it turns out if that orchid is sharing a room with Richards, he's got the advantage. Recently the Rolling Stone was giving a talk at the New York Public Library, and before he went on he lit a cigarette up "backstage" (classic Keith). Turns out the backstage was actually the Cullman Center's Deputy Director Marie d’Origny's office, and, well:

[Keith] grabbed the clay saucer underneath the orchid for a makeshift ash tray. He then asked for the window to be open, sending a chill through the office. Between the cold and the smoke, the little orchid never stood a chance. RIP, sweet flower. The good news is Keith felt sort of bad about smoking in the first place and signed the “ash tray” without anyone asking.

And yet we were kicked out of the lobby for eating a croissant?!

While Keef was waiting ‘backstage’ in the center before the talk, he unexpectedly lit up a cigarette in Marie’s office, and grabbed the clay saucer underneath the orchid for a makeshift ash tray. He then asked for the window to be open, sending a chill through the office. Between the cold and the smoke, the little orchid never stood a chance. RIP, sweet flower. The good news is Keith felt sort of bad about smoking in the first place and signed the “ash tray” without anyone asking (see image). So c’mon - you have to have sympathy for the devil. Meanwhile, want to cheer Marie up? Go to one of Cullman’s amazing conversations!!

I think that librarian is covering up the fact she was so excited Keith was there she forgot to water the damn plant............
