I remember reading about those sessions a couple of years ago. Great stuff.

Thanks, great stuff, takes us back to a time when music really mattered and engineers had to use their resources smartly, anyone interested in that should read Geoff Emerick's book!

Didn't I read in Wyman's book that this song was originally titled "Black Pussy"?

Dont know if it was Bill who said that (and 'Stone Alone' only goes up to mid 69 or so, I think - maybe you mean his other book, 'Rolling with the Stones'?) but Jagger flat out rubbished that myth in the liner notes for 'Jump Back'.

Oh Bill's second one, the "coffee table" version ? I picked it up the other day, need to take a closer look.

First time I read about that "alternate" title was in Martin Elliott excellent "Complete Recording Sessions" first published in 1990, that book drove me crazy with all these details on the unreleased songs, the quest for these songs started and it burnt a rather large hole in my pockets !

I still wanna hear "Petrol" & "Ana" - which i am bloody sure was from the original U.K. Between the buttons, but i cant be sure.

Actually, i would like to hear the original start me up too.

What are your sources for these titles ? Petrol was long rumoured to exist from the 77/78 sessions and finally came out in 1993 as "Petrol Gang" - Never heard of "Ana" ?

A "Never Stop" version of "Start me Up" came out in 2002 or 2003 with most people arguing it's the original reggae take from 1975, sounds more to me like an intermediate take from 1977/1978 and not particularly "reggae" at that.

TrackTalk

I've got a new one myself. No words yet, but a few words in my head - called Brown Sugar - about a woman who screws one of her black servants. I started to call it Black Pussy but I decided that was too direct, too nitty-gritty.
- Mick Jagger, December 2, 1969, on the way
to Muscle Shoals Studios (from Stanley Booth's
The True Adventures of the Rolling Stones)

I don't know how factual, but interesting.

“Sweet Soul Music” and “When a Man Loves a Woman.”

I'd love to see THE STONES cover these 2 songs, with Mick Taylor! That would be sweet!
