Title: Love the music, don't like their lifestyles.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1320638/The-girl-nearly-broke-Stones-Keith-Richards-gofer-recalls-riotous-life-road.html

Reading this article (which is one of many) reinforces my opinion of the Stones. I love their music, but i dont approve of their lifestyles. You may say, who am i to pass judgement, but i'm afraid i do. I tend to keep the two separate, the music, and everything else. Even to the extent of putting the "Shine a Light" dvd on my ipod, i edited out the talking bits. ----Music only please----

And the drug taking, never done it, and never will.

I could argue that without the lifestyle, the music would never have happened.

A classic even by Daily Mail standards. Publishing an article by a guy who's been dead for over twenty years and making it appear to be 'new'.

Yes, I was a little miffed to see it in the paper this morning, myself.

well of course you have your own values and thats fine......but man without the swagger and heidonistic and edginess the Stones may have just been another band from England.

I've read a few interviews where Keith "dissaproves" of Mick and Bills womanising, even the other day promoting his new book.

Weird, when I first looked at this topic I thought it read 'love the music, hate the hairstyle'. Must be quite a few beers and little sleep. Your statement is noted, I mostly think 'whatever' when it comes to the Stones' lifestyle.

As for the link: Tony Sanchez...back from the dead. Didn't know the Daily Mail could do that. I hope they bring back Elvis sometime this week.

I thought Keith admitted that a lot of what Spanish Tony wrote was true?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it the first book to make the claim that there was foul play involved in Brian Jones' death?

Died June 2000, apparently - admittedly not the 'twenty years' I genuinely thought was the case, but the point still remains.

I actually think the notes in one of the previous editions of his book stated something like vague like 'Tony Sanchez died some years ago' on the dust jacket comments.

The book is being republished. Must be a tour coming up, then. In which case, I also expect Philip Norman's tedious 1984 tome to get the same treatment any day now. Every time there's a bit of new activity for him to cash in on, you can bank on a new 'updated version' for the Daily Mail to salivate and tut-tut over - the updates usually amount to about four pages covering the last ten years, which read like it's been written in his tea break and researched by a baboon.

Keith more or less said that a lot of the 'basic facts' were true, but that Sanchez' ghost writer had embellished quite a few of them, leading him to doubt how much of it was Sanchez' own work, as (to use Keith's words), 'Tony can barely write his own name'.

The book first came out around 1979, I think. Havent read it in ages, so can't recall if he suggested there was foul play or, if he did, whether he was the first to do so.

Me neither, and it's never motivated me to think of them as 'role models' in either a positive or negative way.

The only issue I have is if their lifestyles interfere with their ability to function as competent musicians. If you're paying a lot of dough for a concert ticket (and have flown a long way to attend and have booked hotels, etc), the least you should expect is for a performer to do their best to ensure that they're in a state where they can play and/or sing as well as they can.

High prices are a bit of a two way street for a performer in that if they're taking more, they have to be seen to be trying to give more in return - it raises expectation levels, and they really can't have off nights.  Which isn't easy to do when you get older.

Unlike you Paul, I love the lifestyle! I envy it, fantasize about it, and for me there can be no seperation of the music from the lifestyle. If you listen to the lyrics and you like the lyrics, than how can you not like the lifestyle? It's one and the same, man! It's all about freedom to do what you want to do in life, and not being afraid to express it, which all shines through in the music!   IMO

Drugs and womanizing are great and the sooner people realise that, the better we will all be.

Give the Pope a spliff & an hour with Belladonna, and we will all be forgiven.

P.S. an hour? Maybe 10 seconds.

That Ratzinger (ex-LuftBiffen, ex-HiYo), I'm telling you, he's creepy, man.  The kind of creepy that makes your socks sweat.  No spliffing belladona, he never gets high.  Creepy.

I love their lifestyles!  Jet setting all over the globe!  Hopping on and off limos!  Staying at 5 star hotels!  Drinking champagne! Meeting other celebrities!  It's a "charmed life"!
