Great to see Alice Cooper finally getting in. Later this morning, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will announce their 2011 ballot. Rolling Stone can confirm that it includes first-time nominees Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper, Tom Waits, Donovan and Neil Diamond, plus previously nominated acts LL Cool J, J. Geils Band, Beastie Boys, Donna Summer, Chic, Dr. John, Laura Nyro, Joe Tex, Darlene Love and Chuck Willis. Artists must have released their first single in 1985 or earlier to be eligible in 2011. The top vote-getters will be announced in December, and formally inducted on March 14th 2011 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. See the 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction nominees Neil Diamond and Alice Cooper have both been eligible for over fifteen years — and only Rush and KISS fans have been more outspoken about the exclusion of their favorite band. “I think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should be calling me,” Cooper said in 2002. “I think I'm being blackballed. But it's great to be the Pete Rose of rock and roll.” Last year the Hall of Fame inducted other the long-overlooked acts Genesis, the Stooges, the Hollies, Jimmy Cliff and ABB |

Any chance some arsonist with a rock n roll conscience could torch the place some time between now and March?
I mean, I know its a shame in some ways because it would be hard on Alice Cooper and Tom Waits, but with you-know-who a cert to be inducted, I'm sure they'd understand that it's for the greater good of mankind. |

Bon Jovi will play this Sunday on Buenos Aires, in the same Stadium that RS did it before (River Plate). Just one show and tickets aren't sold out.
The most expensive ticket is around $600! Insane, yes. I'm not attending, by the way... BJ sucks! |

I honestly don't get this current-day Bon Jovi phenomenon. They were pop-metal at its most inane back in the day and JB is a wannabe Bruce without the depth or cultural relevance. They get to sing in front of the Lincoln Memorial for Obama, they sit at Charlie Rose's oak desk.....and they still sound like pop-metal without real musical durability except to their fans.
When and how did this happen? Is it a New Jersey thing that I'm not getting? |

God only knows texile. It's desperate! Is it that all their songs are the same or is it that they only have one fucking song? I'm not sure cause I try not to pay attention to them.

What's the deal with Alice Coopers live act? As far as I know, he pretends to get beheaded and mutiliated and all, but doesn't this just distract from the music, or does it actually work well?
And if they only take people from 25 years before, what's the nominee list gonna look like in 20-25 years from now?!? It'll be pretty weak. |

I don't agree with that, Alice Cooper bit that is, not for the person himself, but for the group that was called Alice Cooper, they have been around since '68, first album came out in '69, they were the for-runners of Glam Rock, they & Bowie happened at the same time, but when the group broke up in '74, Alice Cooper legally adopted the name, so when everybody thinks of AC, they always think of the man instead of the group. This is from the Toronto Rock & Roll revival in '69. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-w_YN9-TDk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZvdJGfYEsw |

Alice Cooper before Bon Jovi? Surely you jest Perkins?!
Cooper, or Alice Cooper, was a more rock and roll extension of the Crazy World of What's-His-Name and got kids excited about concerts, scared parents etc... I think he/they had an enormous influence on ROck and Roll as a show. |

Rock n roll itself will be a relic from the past in 25 years time, so it'll be a moot point. Its dying on it's arse as it is. Not necessarily due to a lack of decent music (because thats not the case), but because of the soul being stripped out of it by the likes of Clear Channel, Ticketbastard, corporate greed, Simon Bastardface Cowell, clueless radio and TV programming, and a myriad of other factors. There'll always be great music being made. Its just that it's becoming harder to actually be exposed to it in mainstream media. There was a band a few years ago called Pop Will Eat Itself. It's becoming very prophetic. |

Popular music is sown up between faceless record companies, reality shows and the media these days. People seem to get the music, not of their favourite artist, but of their favourite celebrity. There isn't much original in the charts these days is there? Cause its made-to-order, production line, personality vacuum "music" that appeals to the young generation that couldn't be arsed to listen to anything else! But what can a good, decent young band do to get any attention these days? The media only seems to run stories on their usual favourites. The most successful artist of the last year or two is Lady Gaga! But not much that she does is original. And the choruses of her songs all consist of jibberish! And yet this is a style icon?!?! Anyone who read the piece in the Sunday Times about her a few weeks ago will know what I'm talking about. Popular music lost its soul years ago! |

It's the Rock Hall not the Pop Hall. Unfortunately, to keep the place open they probably have to put the Pop people in. I have learned by attending a million concerts, to simply ignore the crap I do not like and go straight to the great stuff in the Rock Hall, (like the new Elvis exhibit that I LOVE and the Stones exhibit, The Boss exhibit and Johnny Cash's tour bus) and give it my undying attention.
Long Live the King! xoxoxo, Martha |

Its not really a 'rock' hall either. Its a music hall of fame - if anything, its a monument to the history of popular music. And thats just fine. Many of the original inductees and pioneers couldnt really be described as 'rock' and nothing has changed.
'Rock n roll hall of fame' just trips off the tongue better. |

I’m not sure who the first years inductees were off hand, but with the 25 year rule, I would bet that most of the acts were what we’d consider to be ‘rock n’ roll’ Perhaps they should now finally change the name! |

Then add, 1987 - Aretha, BB King, Marvin Gaye, Smokey, Big Joe Turner, Muddy etc There's always been plenty of room for other genres. As there should be. |

Can the re-name it The Music Hall of Fame? Several of these folks already in the HOF and more to be nominated are certainly not R&R.
If I belonged to an old successful R&R band and was overlooked, I would wear it like a badge of honour. Some of these nominations are a joke. Hall of Fame should mean you had a long successful career, not that you were a two year flash in the pan or fad. |

I listen to Elvis Radio XM18 Sirius13 all day long. Can't get enough! I will bust a move in your honor later today...once the joint pain diminishes! lol xoxoxo, Martha PS Bon Jovi gained popularity mainly because two of them are overly C.U.T.E., which makes young girls C.R.A.Z.Y. Neil Diamond, Alice Cooper, Tom Waits Inducted Into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Darlene Love and Dr. John will also be inducted in New York City on March 14 Most Popular Marty Temme/WireImage (Cooper), Richard Creamer/Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images(Waits), GAB Archive/Redferns(Diamond) By Andy Greene Dec 14, 2010 8:00 AM EST The votes are in and next year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class will include Neil Diamond, Alice Cooper, Tom Waits, Darlene Love and Dr. John. Leon Russell will be receive The Award For Musical Excellence (formerly the sideman category) and industry legends Jac Holzman and Art Rupe will both receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award. The ceremony will be held March 14 at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel and it will be broadcast live on Fuse. Artists are eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first single or LP. All of this year's inductees, however, started in the 1960s — with the lone exception of Tom Waits, who released his first LP Closing Time in 1973. Waits was shocked by the news of his induction. "I am still recovering," he said in a statement. "I never really cared about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...but now I am surprised to discover how much I DO care." Waits exclusively tells Rolling Stone that his thoughts turned to his mother, who died this year, when he got the call. "I wish she was alive to hear the news," he says. "She didn't respond to rock and roll per se, but she would have loved to have a reason to get all dolled up...and...the idea of having a Waldorf salad AT the Waldorf Astoria, would for her have been the cat's pajamas." Dr. John, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, Was 'Surprised' By the News Love feels that the long wait was well worth it. "I was on my way to Atlantic City in a limo when I got the call," she says. "I started screaming and I thought, 'I sure hope the driver doesn't think that my husband's trying to kill me.' I was laughing and crying at the same time." Darlene Love, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, Says She's on Cloud Nine The ceremony falls right in the middle of Neil Diamond's Australian tour in March. Nothing is set yet, but Diamond hopes to re-shuffle some dates so he can make it. "I'll get in somehow," he says. "They are working on the details right now. I 'm very hopeful it'll work out because I don't want to miss this ... Any club that has Chuck Berry and Little Richard and The Everly Brothers is a club that I want to be a part of." Neil Diamond, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, Says He Feels 'Very Lucky' When Alice Cooper got the news he immediately called his former bandmates in the original Alice Cooper band. "I said 'Well, remember when we started in high school?" he says. "Here we are. It only took 45 years." Alice Cooper, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, Was 'Elated' When He Got the News Cooper plans on performing with the band, something he's only done a handful of times since they broke up in 1976. "We're trying to figure out if we do 'School's Out,' do we send balloons of confetti into the audience?" he says. "I doubt there'll be a snake there though...If you look at the list of past inductees it's all of my heroes, from Pete Townshend to The Yardbirds to The Beatles to The Stones. It's everybody that we listened to in order to become Alice Cooper, so it's pretty amazing that those are the same people that actually voted for us." http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/68404/242409 Yay-y-y-y No Bon Jovi! |
