Title: Confessions....Eagles?

i had a frightening experience last night.
we played a local fall festival in the suburbs last night, and during our first break, the organizer of the event, who is, despite his musical selection, a great guy, popped in a tune that caught my ear. it was a version of one of my favorite tom waits tunes, ol 55. i sat there listening to the tune and enjoying it very much for about 45 seconds or so...strong harmonies...nice strings....not as good as the original of course but very entertaining nonetheless. i decided to approach the organizer to see who the band was that was covering one of my favorite tunes in such an admirable fashion.
then it hit me, like a ton of bricks....like the lee press on fingernails of a thousand high school teenagers being scraped across a huge chalkboard: the unmistakable coked out cackle of don henley.
i was shocked. i was dismayed. it was like taking a sip of a nice cool drink of water, only to find out that joey had peed in my glass just a minute before. i felt like such a sinner.
has anyone else heard this song? if so, can you tell me howe could i have been so taken in by the pretty vocals and nice arrangement....an arrangement that sounded nothing like the hell blather of the eagles? my god...i feel like i consumed a third of a liter of vodka and woke up the next morning snuggling with pavlov's dog.
