No,but whatever ballot measures in California that pass,that are slightly controversial. Always end up in court. Gay marriage for instance.

If they ever had such a vote here in podunk Georgia...the cops would arrest everyone voting yes......and they'd rig the voting machines to be sure.....again

i hope it passes, it's a waste of money and resources making it a crime, and the abiltiy to tax sales of it, would do a great thing to help our hard hit economy.

The big question is even if California passes the bill and recreational weed becomes legal, there are still federal narcotics laws that could preempt the state laws -- just as DOJ argued iin Arizona re: immigration.

This Administration has indicayed that it will not enforce federal narcotics laws in states that have passed medical marijuana initiatives (altho in reality, the feds are still cracking down on things, as are state authorities).  But if another Administration changed its policy, California's law might get booted as preempted too.

Given the proliferation of medical marijuana laws, and now California's movement, seems pretty likely to me that this country will loosen up on weed and recognize that, like Prohibition, when the scant rescources are not winning the war, taxation of the trade makes more sense to everyone.

And if everyone just  :smoking amd chilled out some, things would be a lot better!
