Rod Stewart is to become a dad for the eighth time - at the age of 66.

The singer's wife, photographer Penny Lancaster, 39, discovered she was pregnant while celebrating the couple's third wedding anniversary in Portofino, Italy.

The couple have a four-year-old son Alastair - while rocker Rod also has six other children from previous relationships.

In a statement the couple said: "We were thrilled and delighted to be able to tell Alastair that he was going to be the big brother to a little baby, expected just before Mummy's 40th birthday.

Rod, 65, and three-months pregnant Penny, who turns 40 in March, have made no secret of wanting another child.

Penny said recently: "I think touring and running around interferes with things but we're still trying and have high hopes. Though once you get over 35 it takes longer."

Rod, who will celebrate his 66th birthday in January, has been with Penny for more than 10 years. The delighted couple flew to LA at the weekend to break the news to his other children in person.

They wanted to wait until Penny's three month scan before they told anyone.

Rod has five children by three ex wives - Kimberly, 30, Sean, 29, Ruby, 23, Renee, 18 and Liam, 16. He also has a daughter, Sarah Streeter who was put up for adoption in 1964.

A source said: "Penny and Rod are absolutely over the moon."

Ahhhhh. Heard about this. I thought it was only his 7th child, and I was about to accuse him of trying to imitate Mick... ::) Didn't know about the daughter given up for adoption.

Ok, so, when this kid is born...and graduates from high school....Rod will be......84 or so. Eh? What's that you said? OY. ::) :P :forfucksake

Wow I never knew he put his daughter up for adoption in 1964. I wonder if they have any form of a relationship now.  That was 46 years ago making Rod 20 at the time.  So Sarah Streeter, his oldest child is 46 now and his youngest isnt even born yet. That's a big gap! Good old Rod's ROD still got the mojo-jam pumping! I totally respect that!
