Title: 5 years gone - Carlo Little
Post by Voodoo Chile In Wonderland on Aug 6th, 2010 at 4:39pm
The one and only Carlo Little passed away five years ago today, a lot of Stones connection and one of them, the drummer who turned down Brian Jones' invitation to join the Rolling Stones

This is how his cool and groovy graveyard looked before our tribute

Picture with thanks to you know who  ;)

Nice. His daughter used to post on here occasionally. She was a very sweet lady.

Yes, before Charlie but the stones couldn't afford his salary (1962) Carlo was with Cyril Davies and the rollin' stones opening for them  :o; Carlo then recommended Charlie to the Stones, Charlie was Alexis Korner's drummer and was the same story, they couldn't pay his salary so they had bad and very bad drummers in the beginning. It was until early 1963 that the Stones hired Charlie

BTW, even that the Rolling Stones couldn't hire Carlo, he played some live gigs with the Stones in 1962 and 1963, his last gig was just three days before Charlie joined, literally Charlie replaced Carlo

Check our website for details http://rocksoff.org/1962.htm and http://rocksoff.org/1963.htm  :willya

I can't believe it's been 5 years since Carlo passed away. :( I know he was present at some of the Brian gatherings at the graveside and pub, usually during the week of July 3, I think....

It's always nice to learn all days, if we don't learn each and everyday we're wasting time, it's nice too when you help to learn

Well, some pix, this was taken backstage in Paris by his wife Iris

These pictures were taken in 1998 in Wembley when the Stones played during the Bridges to Babylon Tour, the news with these pictures were that "Carlo Little was approached by the Rolling Stones when they were forming, Carlo declined their offer and advised them to ask Charlie Watts. Carlo now runs a burger van in Wembley"

More later

THANKS FOR THIS POST....I NEVER KNEW THIS INFORMATION. I don't think I've ever said this before........and at the risk of sound incredibly crass.......... but that is one  the coolest grave markers I've ever seen.............being a drummer...."I Love it"  "Rock on Mr Carlo Little"

Yeah - Carlo got a bit of media coverage around the time of the Stones' Wembley shows in '99. The press obviously loved the story of him running a burger stall while the Stones were playing to 140,000 people in two shows just up the road.  It was good publicity for him and the band he was still playing with at the time and to his eternal credit, he used it in a very positive manner. It was great that he also got to meet the Stones again as a result of it.

I am positive i read in a Aussie mag years ago that Carlo said to Keith Moon "I dont know what you're doing, but dont stop". Or words to that effect.

Carlo was a teacher in London and was the teacher of Keith Moon when Moonie was a teenager, Keith Moon was not just his pupil but his fan and learned not just the technique but the savage way to play it

I think the blonde girl in the first pic is Carlo's daughter.

When I saw the 4th pic, my first reaction was 'how the hell did Jumacfly get backstage with the Stones?'

I would like to take this opportunity from the bottom of my heart,to thank the members of Rocks Off who visited Carlo’s grave last Friday and left flowers on the 5th anniversary of his death.

It’s so hearting to see that Carlo is not forgotten.
He was a wonderful Husband, Father and Friend as well as a very talented Drummer who is still  very sorely missed  :'(

Iris Little
xx

BTW the blonde in the photo is myself, not our Daughter

I hope you were a little bit flattered by my mistake, Iris!

Thanks for your kind words. Carlo won't ever be forgotten on this site. Our thoughts are with all of your family at this sad time of the year.
