This picture was shot march 31st 1966 in the train between Marseilles and Lyons in France.
It was the day after Mick was hit by a piece of a broken chair during the show, and the riot, at the "Salle Vallier" in Marseilles (that's why Mick is wearing huge sunglasses).
Photographer is probably Jean-Marie Périer.

I was wondering what the deal was with the picture.
From the date and train, I figured it was somewhere in Europe, but the bug glasses were odd.

Thanks a lot Jeep! I always like to add the date, the place and the author to the header and a lot of times I avoid posting headers without additional information, so thanks again for the information and the additional pictures. You rock!

Well, you know, it was the 60's, and riots with policemen were common during concerts !
A guy in the audience threw the piece of broken chair to a cop, but he missed the target and the piece of wood continued the journey right on Mick's face.

Jean-Marie Périer was the driver of the car after the Lyons shows.
The Stones prefered return to Paris instead to spend the night in Lyons.
Périer remembered a scene in a restaurant packed by truckers...imagine : 1966, a dinner in a middle of nowhere, french rednecks at the tables, the Stones with extravagant clothes came in the place...and Brian asked for a milkshake (the owner of the restaurant probably didn't know at this time what the hell was a milkshake)...they all prefered leave the place very quickly with only sandwiches !

A train ride. especialy in Europe/UK is always a great equalizer...everyone is just there along for the ride...
trying to get from point A to B...enjoying the scenery and hoping the bar cart is not too far!!

I would have loved to just run into the Stones in the corridor on the way back from the WC..! ::)
