Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger & Terence Winter To Develop HBO Rock 'N' Roll Drama
BY NELLIE ANDREEVA | Thursday July 22, 2010 @ 6:09pm PDT I hear the Boardwalk Empire duo of director Martin Scorsese and writer Terence Winter is re-teaming with HBO for another sweeping period drama series project, and this time, they have rock legend Mick Jagger as a partner. The project, referred to as History of Music, is a rock ‘n’ roll epic, which follows two friends through 40 years in the music business, from the early days of R&B to contemporary hip-hop. It originated as a feature based on Jagger’s idea, first at Disney and most recently at Paramount where it was set up three years ago with Scorsese attached to direct, The Departed scribe William Monahan to write and Jagger, his Jagged Films partner Victoria Pearman and Scorsese producing. I hear HBO is now making a deal with Paramount to develop a pilot based on the idea, and Sopranos alum and Boardwalk Empire creator Winter is being brought in to write it. (Monahan is no longer involved.) Scorsese would get first crack at directing if the project goes to pilot. Scorsese also directed the pilot for Boardwalk Empire, which was picked up to series and was a top seller at the international LA Screenings in May. Deals are still being negotiated, but Scorsese, Jagger, Pearman and Winter are expected to executive produce the History of Music project. Boardwalk Empire, set in 1920s Atlantic City at the dawn of Prohibition, premieres Sept. 19. Scorsese directed Jagger and his Rolling Stones bandmates in the 2008 feature documentary Shine a Light, which Pearman produced. |

Hmmm, I wonder where Mick got the idea from ::) 8-) I'm actually quite excited about this. |

Yeah this sounds cool. It's so important for people to understand where music comes from and how it's all connected imo.

Hey Mick Jagger. How about concentrating on The Rolling Stone's recording endeavors/a new album...
All you hear from them is "yeah ....we want to get together and record.... probably will". Then all you read about is all these side projects they are wrapped up in day in and day out that have nothing to do with that. I'd like a head line that reads "Rolling Stones start new album" versus tons on head lines concerning high profile parties and events they are attending or side projects their involved with. I wouldn't gripe if they didn't say they are planning on recording and doing more albums on several different occasions. But they HAVE said that and they DO talk about recording here and again in interviews alluding to folks that they are continuing on. Get together with Keith, and go to work. If they really wanted to they could. I mean have they actually lost interest??? If so, well that would have to be fine I guess. I'd have to live with it ....BUT don't throw out teasers that The Stones are going to do another album and tour is all I'm saying...if their are not concrete plans. If there are concrete plans .... act on them. I realize they have done it all and at this point they are up there in age but correct me if I am wrong but last time I checked they are still The Rolling Stones and still classify their primary job is being in a Rock band ...correct? Well how bout making some Rock music? It's that simple- Ian |

IAN,AFETR THE PATTI HANSEN REVELATIONS, MAYBE WE SHOULD LAY OFF MAKING THESE BOLD "GET ON WITH IT " STATEMENTS.WE NEVER KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON BEHIND THE SCENES,NO MATTER HOW MUCH WE THINK WE DO.. TO QUOTE CORRADO "JUNIOR" SOPRANO; "SOME PEOPLE ARE SO FAR BEHIND THAT THEY ACTUALLY THINK THEY'RE AHEAD" |

Normally, I'd empathise with that, but as Bill says, I think the revelations that have broken in the last week or two go a long way to explaining why all the talk of upcoming new albums or concert tours kept getting mysteriously put on the back burner. And I can't see how Jagger being a 'partner' in a business venture is going to detain him for much more than a weekend. |

_________________________________ Every time something involving a film other than The Rolling Stones films comes along and Mick is involved he focuses on that. Keith has been pissed with him before because of it. As well, Jagger never only dedicates a weekend to a business juncture involving film entertainment. He is always involved plenty more than that from what I've read. I understand bout the serious issues of life that can arise. Oh well. Can't argue with the last one that's for sure. Ian |

Mick's been carrying things for a long time now.
And ANY collaboration with Scorsese is okay in my book. That guy (Marty) really is ONE of us ie Stones lunatic. LJ. |

When? Give an example. 'Enigma'? 'Bent' ? 'The Man From Elysian Fields' ? When did Keith express annoyance at these? They didnt postpone any Stones activity. And if he did express annoyance, he wasn't exactly doing much himself. How much film work has Jagger been involved in since the Stones last played a note in public? Nothing significant that I can think of. Ian Billen wrote on Jul 23rd, 2010 at 9:20pm:
"Deals are still being negotiated, but Scorsese, Jagger, Pearman and Winter are expected to executive produce the History of Music project" 'The Long Play' thing has been on the go for years. It's not like he's a bloody scriptwriter. An 'Executive Producer' has no direct involvement in the creative process of a movie. With 'Enigma', he was a co-producer. A huge difference. |

That was my immmediate thought. We've screaming for something like that for years and finally got. And Jagger put alot into it. Who knows, maybe Mick took on the Exile reissue with the thought of what Keith was going through.....giving Keith some time to deal with family.....I don't doubt Mick would do that for his friend. |

I support MICK in all his artistic projects, STONES or otherwise. MICK is SO talented and has GREAT ideas, plus the knowledge of a lifetime in the music biz,and MICK puts a cool spin on it, unlike Marty who is mainstream. MICK thinks outside the box, has done so much with his life, yet there still remains untapped creativity! You gotta respect MICK's energy! MICK is an inspiration to mankind!!
