They opened for the John Butler trio and Melissa Ethridge at a recent local radio station show. Didn't go,but they played some of thier stuff leading up to the show. Not bad, willing to give them more of a listen.

BURBANK, Calif., June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Fueled by lead single "Tiny Light," their incendiary live shows and rave reviews from critics nationwide, the self-titled album from GRACE POTTER & THE NOCTURNALS (Hollywood Records/Ragged Company) enter Billboard's Top 200 at #20, Billboard's Rock Album Chart at #3 and Billboard's Digital Album Chart at #9.

I saw these guys open for Gov't Mule in 2007. I didn't go to see GPN, went to see Mule, and 9.5 times out of 10 I don't really give a second thought to the opener.

She grabbed me. Big time.

Her voice was huge. She was up there playing guitar. Playing organ. To me, it seemed as though she was going to be the voice of Janis Joplin for this generation. No joke. I thought her singing was that powerful.

She even came back out to jam with the Mule, as invited by Warren Haynes. To me, as a working guitarist, if you get some respect and an invite from Warren Haynes, that means something.

So after this show, I started to find recordings of her other shows that she had done. They were all great. Really strong rock and roll shows.

Then I had to find her albums. First one I got was This Is Somewhere

Boy, was I let WAY down.

It sounded like whoever produced her had NEVER heard her live show. She didn't sound like she sounded on stage. She didn't sound ballsy. She didn't sound like the next Janis.
Everything just sounded like 95% effort and that she was never encouraged to go the extra distance. There is NO energy on this record.

The new record is even worse with the same problems now coupled with bad songwriting.

AND they did a rework of "If I Was From Paris". It's terrible. THAT was the song that caught my ear initially and now it's gone.

I think she is wasting her talent with her current label (Hollywood Records, a division of Disney). I also think her band is somewhat mediocre, especially the drummer (who is her boyfriend). Scott (the guitarist) is good. He can play, but they have no groove and that's all on the drummer.

There are definite problems with this band and I just wish someone would tell Grace to wake up because she's got a butt load of talent.

I have hope for her, but losing it with every release that sounds "just good enough".
