Title: The Summer of Starbuck!
Post by Starbuck on Jun 12th, 2010 at 2:18pm
Ladies and gentlemen....graduation is in three hours....and you know what that means:

the summer of starbuck is about to begin. two and a half entire months with nothing to do but strum the guitar, catch up on old "WKRP" reruns on hulu and chase around the youngsters. while you working stiffs are slaving away at the office, i will sipping pina coladas by the pool. ok, maybe juice boxes and not pina coladas...and it may have to be an inflatable shrek kiddie pool...but you get the idea. from now until late august will be nothing but a continuous fryday! freedom!

I will think up a poll for this puppy later, but i am expecting the thread views to surpass the JB birthday thread by next thursday.

any suggestions for things to do this summer? so much time, so much time!

let's get us started off right this summer with a little excerpt from days gone by on madison avenue. TIA to my good friend kkeno!

"we've come a long way bucky"

I was tired of my lady
We'd been together too long
Like a worn-out recording
Of a favorite song
So while she lay there sleeping
I read the paper in bed
And in the personal columns
There was this letter I read

"If you like Pina Coladas
And getting caught in the rain
If you're not into yoga
If you have half a brain
If you'd like making love at midnight
In the dunes on the Cape
Then I'm the love that you've looked for
Write to me and escape."
I didn't think about my lady
I know that sounds kind of mean
But me and my old lady
Have fallen into the same dull routine
So I wrote to the paper
Took out a personal ad
And though I'm nobody's poet
I thought it wasn't half bad

"Yes I like Pina Coladas
And getting caught in the rain
I'm not much into health food
I am into champagne
I've got to meet you by tomorrow noon
And cut through all this red-tape
At a bar called O'Malley's
Where we'll plan our escape."
,
So I waited with high hopes
And she walked in the place
I knew her smile in an instant
I knew the curve of her face
It was my own lovely lady
And she said, "Oh it's you."
Then we laughed for a moment
And I said, "I never knew."

That you like Pina Coladas
Getting caught in the rain
And the feel of the ocean
And the taste of champagne
If you'd like making love at midnight
In the dunes of the Cape

You're the lady I've looked for
Come with me and escape

LISLE MAN SURVIVES 60-FOOT FALL AT STARVED ROCK
June 8, 2010
Chicago Sun Times
By KIM JANSSEN Staff Reporter / [email protected]

A hiker from Lisle survived a 60-foot fall after he slipped while urinating off a cliff top at Starved Rock State Park.

Michael Deglinnocenti, 22, wandered off the trail Sunday evening after drinking with friends at a spot called Hidden Canyon deep within the park 75 miles southwest of Chicago, according to police and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Deglinnocenti and a friend, Caleb Peterson, 20, of Seymour, Wis., had been drinking alcohol with two others when they left the trail to answer the call of nature, Department of Natural Resources spokesman Chris McCloud said Tuesday. Deglinnocenti slipped, McCloud said, and plunged “to the bottom of the canyon.”

He was rushed to Illinois Valley Community Hospital, then flown by helicopter to St Francis Medical Center in Peoria, where he was in fair condition Tuesday.

Deglinnocenti and Peterson were cited for leaving the trail and entering a restricted area. Peterson was also ticketed for underage drinking.

my GOD pammy...they have GOT to shut that place down.

did i tell you that when i called the place back three days after the fall, the woman at reception says to me, "we're glad to hear you're ok. most people that fall off that cliff are in the hospital for much longer." then the beyatch lets me know that i will be receiving a ticket for "unlawfully entering a forbidden area of the state park".

i am now a fugitive from the state of Illinois. i never payed that ticket.

            ***********       ***********      ***********       ***********

".... today, I find myself in another sort of sonic abyss. I'm sitting alone in my apartment. My daughter is gone. My house guests are gone. Alice the cat is gone (I ate her with hoisin sauce). And the silence is deafening. I am doing that same kind of plummeting you do when you look at a Jackson Pollock too long, and I can't even hear the rush of the wind because I have my studio-grade headphones on. The silence, I am here to tell you, is deafening.

Everybody, by the way, thinks that when you fall into the abyss it's empty. Cold. Dark. Dead.

Naaah. Couldn't be nicer.

Me? I've taken the fall. Leap--make that taken the leap. Gathered both feet beneath me, made sure I could feel the mud scrunched up between my toes for maximum traction, and leaped. Lept. Leopt. I'm a leopard. And the water's not cold; it's warm. And the river's not dark; you'd be surprised how much you can see. And dead? Naaah. Teeming with life. Somewhere, they appear to be playing Wagner. Which is odd.

You want to soar beneath the surface, open your mouth, ingest it. Ingest all of it. Of course, if you did that you'd drown. Which is not the object of the exercise.

Me? I'm just swimming upriver.

Huck fucking Finn in reverse. Some days the current is so strong you're swimming at what seems to be a great rate when, in fact, the river bank is slowly going by... the wrong way. These days, though, I'm pleased to announce, headway is being made. I see less of the sun. I'm seeing lots of green. I'm at one with the river. Which is good, 'cause if you're not, there's more damned things swimming around next to you that would like to bite or otherwise fuck with you than you can shake a stick at.

The snakes make the best eating. Once you get good at it; once you've mastered your gag reflex, you just grab 'em, bite their heads off, and then slide 'em down your throat. Don't even have to stop swimming. Shit 'em out about a day later, bones and all. "

I THANK You all for your Time Today !!!!
