Ozzy Osbourne wants to donate his body to science
By ANIJune 7th, 2010
LONDON - Rocker Ozzy Osbourne has decided to donate his body to science.

The British singer feels that it’s a ‘medical miracle’ that he is still alive even after boozing up for 40 years.

Osbourne spent more than 1 million pounds on doctors to keep him alive.

“I’ve often wondered the same thing myself. By all accounts I’m a medical miracle. When I die, I should donate my body to the Natural History Museum,” the Daily Star quoted Osbourne as saying.

“It’s all very well going on a bender for a couple of days but mine went on for 40 years. At one point I was knocking back four bottles of cognac a day, blacking out, coming to again and carrying on,” he added.

The 61-year old singer admitted that he consumed 42 types of prescription drugs and chain-smoked cigars during the shooting of a reality TV show The Osbournes.

“I happen to be the world’s worst hypochondriac. I will catch a disease off the telly. Being ill is like a hobby,” Osbourne said.

“I’ve even started to diagnose my own diseases, thanks to Google,” he added. (ANI)

Slow news day, huh? Ozzy has been looking better and better the last couple of years, though.

LOL his success was because of his personality, he was fired because of his performance on stage, forgetting the lyrics, making bad entries, singing really out of tune, etc Then he started his own career as a solo artist and was much more successful than Sabbath with Dio or Gillan

I saw him live on Monday - Holly week 1982 some days after his guitarist Randy Rhoads passed away, the show was crazy but he does not sing, he shouts, forgets the lyrics (or more diplomatically saying… he changes the lyrics on stage) and enters out of time… you can’t count how many times he says “fucking crazy” in one show… so let’s go crazy!

You're absolutely right about that, plus she became a Hollywood Icon with her association with him, I only liked Ozzy when he was in Black Sabbath, I never really cared for his solo stuff, but he had one great guitarist, Randy Rhodes.
I know he drank & drugged a lot, but if there's someone who a survivor, who you can make out what he's saying when he talks, that's Keith.

I've seen Ozzy perform live and he knows how to excite a crowded room, so thats why he has remained popular for so long. It's part talent, part crazy enthusiasm, and part lucky. Still every time I see him I am captured in the moment, no mind wandering, he is a big force of energy that bounces off him and onto the audience. Great rocking tunes and he can belt out a song! If his body goes to science, they can study how some people survive drugs tobacco and alcohol, and others dont. It's not certain why some people who never smoke can get lung cancer and other people who do smoke dont get it. Same with the effects from drinking and drugs. Maybe some good can come from it.

Scientists Mapping Ozzy Osbourne's DNA
12:20 PM - June 16, 2010 - By Kevin Parrish - Source : Tom's Guide US

A Cambridge, Massachusetts firm plans to map Ozzy Osbourne's genetic code to find out what's kept him alive after all the years of drugs, alcohol, and bat guts. Knome, which will map the former Black Sabbath frontman's genome using a sample of his blood, said that he's only one of a few people in the world that has the privilege of genetic analysis.

As Knome points out, the 61-year-old rocker has lived a life that should have killed off any ordinary human long ago. The £27,000 test will produce results in about three months--Knome hopes that the findings will reveal how drugs are absorbed in the body, and how Ozzy, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and even Iggy Pop can withstand more substance abuse than their ecstatic fans.

Ozzy himself admits that he's not sure how he's still alive, and even deemed himself as a "medical miracle" after a 40-year "bender." At one point in his life, Ozzy was drinking four bottles of cognac a day, "blacking out, coming to again, and carrying on," he said. Ozzy's apparent taste for live, flying and scavenging rodents isn't exactly a big secret either--he even broke his neck in a quad bike accident back in 2003. If that's not enough, Ozzy suffers from a genetic disorder similar to Parkinson's disease.

So is it any surprise that boffins want to check out his DNA? "Sequencing and analyzing individuals with extreme medical histories provides the greatest potential scientific value," said Nathan Pearson, director of research at Knome.
