Jagger's Jukebox
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/radio2

Gazza says the first 5 songs are:
1:  The Staples Singers:  Respect Yourself
2:  The Jimi Hendrix Experience:  Crosstown Traffic.  DJ that's  From the 3rd Experience.  Did you know him quite well?  Well.  He was really a fantastic musician.
3:  The Kinks:  Lola.  Going to Soho to meet this really beautiful girl and she turns out to be a bloke.
4:  Sam Cooke:  A Change Is Gonna Come
5:  Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler) - Marvin Gaye
6.   Al Green: Tired Of Being Alone.
7.   Led Zeppelin:  Rock n Roll  (recorded on the Rolling Stones mobile unit) (Ian Stewart on the ivories)
8.   The Band:  The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down
9.   Bob Dylan: Watching the River Flow (never on an album, just a single) (Leon Russell on piano)
10.  Byrds:  Its all over now baby blue   DJ says Gram did wild horses  mick: yea 'trainspotting'
11.Tommy James and the Shondells: Crimson & Clover 'Its so dumb that its a # 1 record.'
12. Lee Michaels:  Do you Know What I Mean.  'one hit wonder'

[BBC news interruption]

13.   Van Morrison:  Wild Night  when I first heard Van Morrison they were very Rolling Stones influenced and now this is up from there, more west coast soul."  Tupelo honey album.
The guitarist:  "Thinly veiled disguise of Eric Clapton....he pulled out the scientist Mr. Salk, he brought him out and they did Layla. [Dont' really understand what the hell he was talking about there...obviously over my head]
14. Derek and the Dominoes: Layla
15. Creedence Clearwater Revival:  Have you ever seen the rain. They were massive in America. 'really big.  lot of tunes, covered by a lot of people and some of that became so common, like Rolling, Tina Turner did it , it was like don't play it to me anymore.... DJ:  he couldn't release records for a while.  Mick:  'yea some kind of incredible hassle"
16.   Donny Hathaway:    The Ghetto  DJ:  To imagine what he might have gotten up to...he died so young he killed himself.  Mick:  "worked wit Roberta Flack"
17. Sly and the Family Stone:    Its a family Affair.  "very modern approach"  very conversational like he is standing at the bar talking about it. then she comes in very low fi vocals... "
This next one...
Mick "yea sort of  sit yourself down in your car and ride or something...she had other records out at the time... like Spanish Harlem."
18.  Aretha Franklin:   Rock Steady (What it IS)
19.  James Brown:  Talking Loud and Saying Nothing. Mick:   "famous for going around and talking about being proud "
This next one is Peter Tosh for those that don't remember was in the Wailers.
20.  Wailers:  Soul Shakedown.   that is a lot more earlier Bob Marley doing more SkaI was always a big ska and boogie fan and when I moved to France, boxes of 45s ...really odd things.. and becoame more aware of Bob Marley.  I met Bob Marley when they were doing Catch A Firethis was more of a hit than the Bob Marley one
21.  Toots & Maytals (from Gazza):  Pressure Drop
22.  Jerry Lee Lewis:  She even woke me up to say goodbye.  Jerry Lee Lewis he sort of stopped as a rock and roller & came back as a country singer and had a string of hits, this was a #1   Mick:  they are alwways like I tried but I was still awful, and I did it anyway, and now she is gone goodbye"
He is supposed be doing Sweet Virginia, I am supposed to be signing the harmonies on that next week.
22.  Curtis Mayfield:  Don't worry.  If there is hell below we are all going to go.
23. Betty Wright.  Clean Up Woman
24.  Peggy Lee:  Is That All There Is?"

Only heard it from the half way mark on.

Absolutely outstanding song selection, it has to be said, with a few personal favourite songs of mine in there (Donny Hathaway, Jerry Lee Lewis, Curtis Mayfield, Creedence)

BTW - Pressure Drop is by The Maytals.

Is That All There Is  is by Peggy Lee.

Many thanks, Tumbled for all the updates!!

I managed to get it downloading without any word recognition code. Just took the 'free' option, waited 60 seconds and downloaded it.

That's my playlist! i have every one of these songs.
Especially the Lee Michaels song, I've always thought song was something Jagger would have liked...the guy sounds like he's doing Jagger and its got a great feel to it.
I've always felt Jagger was was strongly impacted on soul, with an emphasis on 70s soul. Love that he mentioned Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack....
Don't you love it when your taste matches an idol's?
Very cool,
thanks for posting this!
