Bono has today undergone emergency back surgery for an injury sustained during tour preparation training. He was admitted to a specialist neuro surgery unit in a Munich hospital, and is under the care of neuro surgeon Prof. Dr. Jorg Tonn and Dr Muller Wohlfahrt. Bono will spend the next few days there, before returning home to recuperate.

Once his condition has been assessed further, a statement will be made regarding the impact on forthcoming tour dates.

I always heard about Jagger's pre-tour training...including jogging about 5 miles a day with 2 miles BACKWARDS...because thats what he would clock in a nite during the 1981 and earlier stadium shows...

I hope The Stones, if they do stadiums again use the U2 stage...
It was AMAZING!!! Not a bad seat in the house!!!

If the Stones tour again it certainly won't be with another band's stage.

Hopefully stadiums won't even be a part of those plans...

About a year ago this very well proportioned & EXTREMELY hot looking MILF was out - of- the - office for six friggin months whilst recuperating from back surgery .

I understand where your coming from Starbuck ....and your absolutely right mate. Bono CAN sing. He has a good voice and his own style (although I really don't particularly care for it). I'll admit that.

His band IS good...at what they do (...although they are for the most part pretty one dimensional and over blown .....and I don't really care for it a whole lot).

However, why do we have to listen to his politics? He really needs to choose between being a Rock Star, or a Politician, or a Humanitarian....

But you just can't be all three. As well ....if you choose choice one (Rock Star) the other choices are now pretty much exempt.

Wish the guy (and a handful of his fans) would realize this.

*Now for the record .... I do hope his back surgery is a success. Wouldn't want to see anyone sick or debilitated.

Sure they have the right. But I have the right to wear panties on the outside of my pants for the whole world to view but that doesn't do me any good or make me look very appealing. We have the right to do lots of things. Obama has the right to wear a head band at every presidential meeting but that wouldn't do him much good... see my point. We shouldn't exercise a right just simply because we are in position where we can.

I'd like to see a band with the focus on music ...not politics. Yeah you can have a political twist at times but not a 50/50 deal IMHO. Sure the political posturing is part of he and his bands shtik. But I think it's over done. I think in the profession of being a rock star you should stick to that aspect once you have made it to a certain level of popularity. Not doing the 1/3 rock star thing as he does. You know how he does it ....on Monday I'll go and host a rally on gay rights. On Wednesday I'll be lead speaker at a political convention with my backwards camo hat and on Friday I'll be a rock star and play in concert.... it just doesn't make any sense and the whole bit is tiring to me really. You made good points. I appreciate that.

He's never alluded to being a politician (some people cant seem to see the difference between having a humanitarian conscience and being a 'politician' - I dont recall him EVER nailing his colours to the mast with any politician) and managed to be pretty successful at the other two. So successful that he's probably one of the most high profile in the world in both fields.

Since I am one of the few Bono fans on Rocks off I feel compelled to defend him as a great frontman, singer, performer, man who cares about the world we live in, and Egde and the band are true rockers. I have followed U2 ever since they started out and Bono is sexy as hell, I met him in NY a long time ago, and he is super HOT! So thats about all I need to say. A 10 in my book. I wish him well with the back surgery, I have had to endure 2 back surgeries and I know this for a fact, he will never be 'good as new' again, so I wish him well and I hope he doesnt get hooked on pain pills. Thats the side effect which is more damaging than the surgery itself. I also have a ticket for July's Meadowlands show, and if he performs I hope he will not be strung out on pain medicine, but thats the easiest way to get through a big tour. I'm worried about him!

Tour promoters Live Nation have confirmed that the 16 U2360° shows from Salt Lake City on June 3rd, through to New Jersey's Meadowlands Stadium on July 19th, will be rescheduled for 2011.

U2 tour producer/promoter Arthur Fogel, CEO of Live Nation Global Touring, said, 'Although we understand the disappointment to U2 fans, first and foremost comes the recovery of Bono.'

Additional details on rescheduled dates will follow shortly and fans are encouraged to hold on to their tickets. We'll have all the information on U2.com as soon as it's confirmed.

I'm a U2 fan too, not afraid to deny it... alot of folks hate them ,just b/c it's cool to hate on them. Been a fan since thier first single... they write and record some of the best/catchiest pop rock songs... they've clunked a bunch, but remian pretty consistent and have endured long enough to have shut up and shut down the naysayers and haters...
I like them b/c Bono can sing and The Edge has one of the most distinctive guitar sounds and styles...

Following today's news that the 2010 U2 360 North American Tour has been postponed, Edge did a brief radio interview on KROQ-FM in Los Angeles. He reiterated earlier statements about Bono's disappointment over postponing the tour and the need to focus on making sure Bono gets well. Regarding the next leg of the tour, Edge said:

"We're 95% confident that Bono will be back in time for our European leg. The doctors are saying minimum of eight weeks. Now, I know Bono, and we're gonna have to chain him down to stop him from getting back out there. But we will endeavour to make sure that he doesn't go back too soon, which would be the danger. So, yeah, I'd say mid-August we'll be back."

The European leg of the tour is due to start on August 6th in Turin, Italy. So Edge's comments make it sound like there's a chance at least some of those shows may be postponed, too. Edge also spoke about the new song U2 had written specifically for the Glastonbury Festival performance, a song we'll all have to wait to hear. And he hinted that U2 may put out some new material soon, without going the traditional album route:

"We're very excited about our next project. Our question now is, What's the quickest way we can get this stuff out? It's so about this moment. We almost don't want to wait until we put a new CD together, but we'll see."

Let's hope he gets better soon. Back injuries are very painful and hard ro recover from. Sorry for those that have tix for canceled shows but hopefully they will get re-scheduled. Not a fan anymore but not interested in kicking someone who is hurt and liked by many. there's less than one chance in ten billion Stones fill in any dates anywhere.

Why would The Rolling Stones use another bands stage?? Mr. Android, large scale bands never use another groups stage. They have their own stages built for the group and specific tour venture at hand.

I can remember the first time i heard "New Year's Day" and "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" -
I admit that Bono can come across as a bit pompous, but most people who campaign or are activists often come across that way - because the nature of activism comes from a sense of righteousness and most people tend to be cynical. In the early, plastic, synthesized 80s, when I was 15 or 16 and listening to the Clash and reading about Central America, U2 was a revelation.
I sometimes find Bono's answers to complicated issues simplistic, but I admire his passion to do good things. And he speaks well for Christianity.

I remember when my sister came home in 1980 with their first record... I played it constantly... I was lready digging alot of punk, but this wasn't punk and it wasn't the radio friendly rock you were hearing... I never gave a shit if they were considered cool or popular, I like most of their music... my tastes range from punk to prog to pop and plain old weird... I'm hoping they release some new stuff soon and record this fall and winter....

I was listening to my crappy stereo and there was a radio interview with them and they were talking about Northern Ireland, Nicaragua and El Salvador and then these songs just blasted out of my speakers.....it sounded like nothing else, noone else. A perfect antidote to the Reagan 80s.

Then...the logical next step (in my mind, at least) would be to
tone it down, strip it down, and just play Rock and Roll with the  "Been there, done that" attitude.

It seems to work for veterans like Clapton, "The Who", and a few others,
w/o having to resort to
the package tours of 2-4 groups playing their 7 hits and 2 "new" songs no one cares about.

One can dream, can't one?
